Pete... I gotta tell ya... I laughed so hard watching you chase that chicken! lol! I'm hoping to get chickens next spring. Loving all your coop and chicken videos. Thanks!
I like watching this during work so I have to mute and just occasionally read the caption. I got a giggle every time it tried to caption Grub Terra: Grandparent, grip tara, and the closest one, grub tarot. 🤣
So happy to see the chicks. It’s unfortunate two did not make it. All the others look like they have acclimated to the brooder just fine. We miss our girls and fresh laid eggs. Some day we will get more chickens and build a bigger coop. Thanks for brightening our day with the new arrivals.
Your channel has everything I’ve been looking for. Thank you for sharing all of your hard work and breaking things down like you do. Love your wife’s commentary too behind the camera. She has the mother hen nurturing vibe. Nice to see that.
I guess im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the login password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
@Jase Arturo I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Always great to get baby chicks we just got ours 2 days ago...let the fun begin!👍 Yeah that feed looks too big we do the Crumble too very small and the chick grit.
I ordered chicks last spring. (Different supplier) Only 11 of 45 survived. After the snake visits I have 6 of the original chicks as adults. Planning to buy from the local feed store this spring unless I get a broody hen who wants to set some eggs. Good luck. Watch your coup for snakes after the chicks are going in and out. If one hides inside, he can kill several poulets in one night even if he's too small to eat them.
I ordered from this same hatchery this week, crossing my fingers that they all make it. I raised chicks last fall and 100% survival rate! I used a hatchery in Fresno (I was in CA at the time.)
Just noticed your views, where did they all go. Anyway you finally got them chickens. it's crazy to me how you don't need a rooster to get eggs. Anyhow have a great day
Thanks, We're going to try to put Lilly back in with the old flock again after we tag her leg. But if we see they're picking on her again, then we'll have to separate her again.
Pete, a Willie hen will sit on any eggs no matter what hen laid the egg. You only have to limit the number of eggs due to her size. I can't remember the number of large eggs but I think it was around 7 that she co us sit on at one time. Sillies are excellent brooders.
Hey Pete look into deep liter method. I’m using it for my small coup with 6 chickens and it’s working great. I used the hemp bedding for my fruit tree and haven’t had to replace for over a year. There are no smells besides what a chicken smells like. No bad smells.
Hatchery should have given you two extra..just in case..years ago, and I mean years ago..the seventies, we ordered one hundred, chicks hybrids..they where duel, meat and eggs...had about sixteen roosters in that order...but they all went to the freezer except for three of them.. they where big birds..just like fog horn leg horn...we hatched out some eggs about a dozen the old fashion way, mark with an X..turned slightly everyday...and I thinking it took almost a month..under warm light bulb lamp..and we then got twelve baby chicks...but a lot of the hens where very broody...lots of babies....never had to buy chicks again....they keep us with freezer meat...I used a small black and decker table top ban saw to slice right down the center of the bird...that is how we and the four children like our barbecue chickens...this way everyone had, wing, breast, thigh and leg...and if we wanted fried chicken..just a few cuts...and when roasted..laid the two halves over stuffing and roasted in the oven...but after the clean up..we had lots of bags full of meat for freezer halves......all mostly the roosters....and as the hens got older..they where delicious also.,.
Finally!! They are so cute Pete, I wish you the best with your plans and I am sure you will make it. I look forward to seeing the progress. As I am not from the USA and "dry freezing" is not something that we are very familiar with within my country, so another useful stuff that I have learnt from you 😁
I just built a simple chicken coop. Your one is an palace compared to mine🤣 what kind of chicks are they? I’ve got to buy some for egg laying as well. Nice to freeze dry the extra eggs 👍🏻
I would have concerns sending chicks through USPS right with how messed they have gotten. Glad most of them came through OK. What breed did you chickens did you get? I'm thinking barred rock.
He states in his description for the video, Black Australorps. And I agree, right now, USPS is the most screwed up of the 3 major delivery services. I had a shipment of Silkie hatching eggs sent to me on February 25th. They're over a week old now, and after the 7 days from laying, the hatchability rate goes down substantially. They're due here, tomorrow, thanks to USPS' delays. Left Canton, GA, on 2/25/21 to make it to North Dakota, and it was SUPPOSED to be 3-day Priority Mail. I'm literally afraid to see what gets delivered. Last time I ordered hatching eggs, half of them were smashed.
@@rhondaalbrecht Thanks for the breed info. I didn't notice that in the description. I was considering getting some chicks but only if I could pick them up directly from the place hatching them. There is a place about 2 hours north of me but I haven't spoken to them yet. Good luck on your delivery.
@@stevefromthegarden1135 ALL of the hatcheries will allow you to do curbside pick-up of your chicks. Give the one near you a call. In fact, they'll be happy to accommodate you, because then they're not worried about the screw-ups of USPS, they go right into your possession. Update on my eggs: They're in the largest distribution center in my state, as it was updated last night. Until yesterday, they were 'en route to the next facility', the last facility being Canton, GA. So, I'm HOPING that they're on their way to me from there. It's usually the next morning's delivery when my mail hits that center. We'll see shortly.
@@stevefromthegarden1135 They arrived on Monday, I let them rest 24 hours, and tonight, a big fat zilch in development. :-( They were laid on 2/21-23, so by the time I got them, their fertility and hatching rate had dropped too much. I was trying for something I hadn't really tried before... Silkies. I have 2 barred rock hens and they're great birds. My rooster is also a barred rock, but I didn't even know I had a rooster until after the girls started laying!
Yeah, but she is stress-free and lays an egg almost every day. We're going to try to put her back in with the old flock again after we tag her leg. But if we see they're picking on her again, then we'll have to separate her again.
Sorry about the new chicks Pete, I know it happens. Not sure why they didn't space them out, there was plenty of room in the box. Anyway, the Hilton looks great for the new girls. One question though; I know you said when we watch the commercials that you paid a little. I'm wondering about the second one about the perfect Amino supplements, if you have tried them, or if you have a recommendation for protein supplements as you said you did body building..? 👍💚🐤🐥🐥🐤
Thanks, I have no control of what commercials RUclips plays but as far as amino acids are concerned, I used to drink a lot of whey type protein drinks but they are not good for you because too much animal protein makes your bodies pH too acidic and can cause a lot of health issues later especially with your kidneys. I would stick with plant based proteins which have a good amino profile. Plant based proteins will not make your body acidic and will not harm your kidneys. Here's a good brand of organic protein powder I bought and will be using from now on. amzn.to/2O2lkbr They also have Meal Replacement Powders amzn.to/2OqCwHf hope this helps.
In this weather it must be hard scheduling and shipping chicks. I can see why they would offer you a cash or credit refund on small losses. What is the smallest quality they would ship?
I think the smallest order is 5. But USPS is very slow, Ideal poultry is only a few hours from me and should have taken one day to receive, but it took almost three days.

They cannot ship unless you bought additional to meet the minimum number of chicks for shipping safely. They have a minimum of 15 chicks, usually, because the combined body heat will keep them alive to arrive at their final destination. The two chicks that died likely were failure to thrive.
