Very cool Doug! And just FYI. You got me started in carving 5 years ago when I stumbled across one of your videos. Ive dated every one of my dozens and dozens of carvings (many given to friends and family) and its amazing how far I've come along. (And how many knives and gouges of every sort I've collected along the way - ha ha!). 70 now and hope I have a few years left, its been one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done. Thanks Brother stay well!
Doug, you have such a beautiful place to enjoy being outside and carving. I love that you brought your gnome house along on the journey, it seems like an appropriate place for it. It is always a pleasure to watch your videos,. Hope all of your family, are doing well. Thanks as always for sharing. 👍🏼
WOW Doug, you are so creative and I love that you use the 'mocca' (that's what we call the coffee pot in Italy) and ILLA caffe'! Best Italian coffee ever :) Another great creation. Thanks for sharing. Willow grows everywhere in Alaska and the moose love it but there is loads so this will be cool to try.
Nicely done, Douglas. This is the first carving of a flower video I've seen. Gonna give it a whirl. Looks medium/hard difficulty. I'll be sure to give myself a full week for a small bouquet. Great job. Cheers!
I've got some of those flowers. I've got a couple of whittling books that show how to carve rooster feathers. We had some trees cut down because they were dead. One was by our house in-between the propane tank and the generator. The others were birch trees. I moved cut up trunk and branches and noticed some were the end ones. I had an aha moment that I could whittle these in to feathers. Your campsite reminds of the area that surrounds our house. We have a fire pit and I've thought about camping out on our lawn. Primitively.
My wife saw these while I was watching, and I am now tasked with making a bouquet for her and one for her sister…unluckily I actually have the dried sticks for it too..
good job Doug . I do make a whole bouquet of flowers at one sitting , but I do use a shave hourse that I made and a flexcut draw knife . works great as you mentioned . yes one or two at a time with just the knife as you also said . they are pretty and people sure do enjoy them . they make a great gift .you did a very good job using just a knife . by the way that Mora 106 has the perfect bevel and sharpnes for doing these flowers . It was made for taking shavings like this off of spoon handles . your Bouquet looks lovely ..... who you giving that one too ??? wink wink .
Enjoyed this video. Oh, and I did look up the archaic term for a “bundle of sticks”. Thought for sure you were going to ask all of us to put this word at the start of our comments!
Whew! You made this video just in time! I have a load of sticks I trimmed off our tree that I was going to haul off to the woods to get rid of. That is t a pile of sticks! It’s now a pile of flowers! Good and dry too!
Gypsy but i cant see why. my ex wife's family were Romani Gypsy and refer to them self's as such. and faggot of sticks was a common term where i grew up.
Love it, Doug! Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you don't do much chainsaw carving anymore (or do you?) Do you prefer the knives and handtools? Just curious. I just realized today you had some older chainsaw videos because you mention it in your tree 1x1 video, so I searched for it. Either way, love it all! Thanks
Hey Doug, you should crate a 1x1 elephant tutorial. I’ve got a few folks on my tik tok wanting me to carve one and I don’t really know how I’d go about it.
I'm good but some people shouldn't be drilling towards the other hand holding the wood.I remember you are an experienced carpenter and you make it look easy but I'm thinking about the fool I know almost lost his finger in a circular saw . Just like everyone to enjoy our crafts. I've got a willow tree and lots of 1.5 sticks of one season growth so I should try this project . Great choice of knive. Thanks
Hi Doug! Random question. I am interested in getting a bench grinder. More so for stropping. I have been using a homemade strop, but like to be a lil more efficient and get results. Looking at harbor freight products. Do u recommend a m8n/max rpm or horse power machine?
Well that is the same name as what an english person would call a cigarette. In America we have freedom of speech and I do agree we should not misuse it. However no person or group can tell one person or people what they can or cannot say, especially when it is true.
good old Gypsy flowers. you will make quite a lot from a faggot of sticks. another old word for a bundle of sticks is bavin . i used to cut birch bavins for a local besom broom maker years ago.

They are so beautiful...❤ bought some 20 years ago from a young girl who was making them on a sidewalk in Spain...and they are still beautiful. 👍😁

I made these approx 3 monthes ago great fun Hazel and willow work well. A shave horse and drawknife works well as Doug said.
🇩🇪 hey this is great idea!
Enjoyed this video. Oh, and I did look up the archaic term for a “bundle of sticks”. Thought for sure you were going to ask all of us to put this word at the start of our comments!
that would be too much lol
Whew! You made this video just in time! I have a load of sticks I trimmed off our tree that I was going to haul off to the woods to get rid of. That is t a pile of sticks! It’s now a pile of flowers! Good and dry too!

Thanks Doug. It looks so easy even I can do it 😂. I hope I get a kiss from the wifey!
Absolutelly gorgeous. Can you show please how you made the vase?
Seriously i just drilled a hole in a piece of firewood lol
@@dougLinker What drill did you use? That thing is massive! 8)
Like Like Like it Doug from Skandinavia
Beautiful stuff! Will most dried sticks do or should it be a specific type?
I think most would work -i might avoid super heavy grains but even then you could problaby make work
@@dougLinker Thank you Doug! God bless.
Another great project Doug, thank you. Do you know if any other species of tree works?
For sure -i would just stay away from super grainy woods but even then I’m sure you could make it work
Now those are some manly flowers.
Thanks Doug great video
As ever! What’s the name we can’t use?
Gypsy but i cant see why. my ex wife's family were Romani Gypsy and refer to them self's as such.
and faggot of sticks was a common term where i grew up.
Doug, do you have to use willow or will other woods work?
Love it, Doug! Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you don't do much chainsaw carving anymore (or do you?) Do you prefer the knives and handtools? Just curious. I just realized today you had some older chainsaw videos because you mention it in your tree 1x1 video, so I searched for it. Either way, love it all! Thanks
Just too many directions to go with limited time -I’ll stick with simple
🥰
Beautiful video! What kind of twig stove was that? It looked rather large but I don’t know if it was the angle.
Yes its a bushcraft essentials xxl Bushbox
Hey Doug, you should crate a 1x1 elephant tutorial. I’ve got a few folks on my tik tok wanting me to carve one and I don’t really know how I’d go about it.
Will they curl back up as the painted ones dry?
Nope those are coloured a few days back
I'm good but some people shouldn't be drilling towards the other hand holding the wood.I remember you are an experienced carpenter and you make it look easy but I'm thinking about the fool I know almost lost his finger in a circular saw .

Great choice of knive.
Thanks
what other wood can I use. I tried one and it didn't work out
Will pine work ok
You might even say... a bundle of sticks.
Hi Doug! Random question. I am interested in getting a bench grinder. More so for stropping. I have been using a homemade strop, but like to be a lil more efficient and get results. Looking at harbor freight products. Do u recommend a m8n/max rpm or horse power machine?
i recommend nothing lol as i'm using the wrong one myself -mine is full speed ahead and i'd really like something i can control the speed
Bundle of sticks lol
Do you still sell the whittled carving of yourself shirt?
If you use red cedar you don't have to wait for the wood dry.
Jewish flower, is how I know this.
