    The tenacious is one of spyderco's very few knives that actually is aesthetically pleasing to me, I might get one just to say I own a spyderco and satisfy that itch.

  • @orangekawi4319

    Being a massive Bob Dozier fan, I grew up on knives in D2. With the recent influx of inexpensive knives in D2 (some of them with decent heat treats) I am finding it hard to go after cheaper steels like Aus8 or the various Chinese stainless steels for knives in this price range anymore. I wish Spyderco would get onboard with D2 in their cheaper lines, I suspect that many current Tenacious, Resilience, and Persistence owners would snap one up in a heartbeat. At least Onario was smart enough to jump on the bandwagon already.

    I have a QSP Hawk, and it is SO fun to play with. Cant wait for my Tenacious (Green G-10 with Black Steel) to show up Friday, so I Can take it apart, clean and oil it, and get it broken in. I'm hoping I can get the action to be similar to what my old QSP Penguin had, since they are both on bronze washers.

    im literally holding both in my hands rn lol theyre my absolute favorite pocket knives. The tenacious is more of a light weight in comparison, I would trust the tenacious for edc, but the rat is definitely a work horse, If i could only have one id pick the rat, it just demolishes tasks, and is a great back up to a tactical fixed blade

    I know this is not popular opinion, but I’m not sold on Tenacious. I just got one as my entry into Spyderco club, but it just feels cheap. The Spydie has no snap, since it is real stiff. Contemplating selling it and then get a Para3 LW. On the other hand, my Rat2 D2 is great knife for the pocket rotation. It is a fun flipper with a great feel.

  • @TheTuneAce
    @TheTuneAce 4 года назад +4

    Originally I thought the tenacious didn't have liners. Good to know it does. Comparing the Rat 2 in D2 steel (top tier budget steel) vs tenacious, even considering that both have steel liners, the tenacious bites the dust. The R2D2 has better steel, weighs less, and costs less. If for some reason you have to have 3/8" more blade and the Spyderco look, I guess you'd be inclined to get the tenacious. I'd say an actual benefit of the tenacious is that it's commonly available at Walmart for like $43. The Spyderco look is easily accessible while you grocery shop. And since 8cr13mov is considered a solid mid tier budget steel with better corrosion resistance than D2, you won't be making a bad purchase. The R2D2 you're probably gonna have to get online. Black coatings (probably some kind of paint) is available to aid with corrosion resistance if you don't feel like cleaning your knife. There's a company out there that has a code for 15% off + free shipping that makes the total cost of the R2D2 just under $40. It truly is the gold standard of budget. I actually haven't tried to buy a rat 2 in Aus8, but it would be even cheaper

    • @oddsavage
      @oddsavage 4 года назад +2

      Couldn't agree more, especially in regards to the R2-D2. I'd throw in the Ka-bar Dozier if you were looking for a $20 option, but yeah, your right on the money.

    Yeah but the heat treatment applied to the AUS-8 on the RAT's is only 55-56rc and that's a big contributing factor are cheaper. SOG, Cold Steel, and Ka-Bar aimed for 58-59rc on their AUS-8 but they did cost a little more. You get what you pay for.

  • @pavlokaterynchuk2762
    @pavlokaterynchuk2762 4 года назад +5

    I had both of them. Tenacious is still at home, Rat became a gift. The biggest flaw of Rat is that its bulky and heavy, 'cause there is no need for a folder with such thin and narrow liner lock to have such massive liners. Also, I used both knives in the forest for couple years, as a secondary, pocket knife, and I can say Aus 8 on rat isn't any better comparing that cheap chineese steel on Tin, although it's a bit more rusty to my opinion vs aus 8. So I understand why Ontario is popular (price/value), but I think there are lots of even better knives for this price. Peace!

      Pavlo Katerynchuk Which knives would you recommend over the Rat in the same price bracket?

    • @pavlokaterynchuk2762
      @pavlokaterynchuk2762 4 года назад

      Serbian Sauvage Hey there! I would recommend to take a look at Steel Will Cutjack (better steel, better overall quality and less weight against aus8 Rat1); Esse Avispa (same steel, but more robust construction due to another locking mechanism); Kershaw Chill (a bit smaller, but super compact and lightweight); Byrd Cara Cara (cheaper but not worse in any mean to my humble opinion); Fox Blackfox BF-705T (cheaper, a bit longer); Boker Plus Exkelimoor 1 (better steel).

  • @knate44
    @knate44 2 года назад

    Unpopular opinion: rat 1 > tenacious, but the Byrd Raven 2 beats them both. Only drawback on the nylon washers, but BD1 is a pretty spicy budget stainless and it is slightly more ergonomic with the smooth G10 and less aggressive but still effective jimping.

That's not to say that the tenacious isn't a fantastic blade, but.. the RAT-1 Has withstood some extreme situations, while my ex-partners' blade has broken and been rendered useless.
