@@raginghardleftistSometimes i feel like it's not even real. You're trying to trick me, right??
That was Crazy 8, Walter’s first personal kill from the first three episodes. The one talking to Tuco and Nacho.
Technically Emilio was the first kill for Walt with the Phospine Gas in the RV in the pilot. Krazy 8 was the one who survived that only to die a couple episodes later.
The scene also has another callback to Walt's conversation with him. Krazy 8 is still working at his dad's store, Tampico Furniture, at this point.
Tampico is the name-o
On the way to comment this lol. Beat me to it 🤘
@@dripcaraybbxjust sing this short refrain-o
Domingo Molina. Let’s not forget that he was a CI for the DEA and kicked off the bust that Walter went on the ride along on. Without him Walt and Jesse would never had teamed up.
The face that Chuck gives Kim during her boardroom grilling is the most eternally punchable face of all time.
The story Nacho tells about Dog Paulsen was actually first mentioned in Breaking Bad. While Hank and the DEA were searching for Tuco, Hank mentions that they suspected Tuco of being involved with the death of a biker named Dog Paulsen.
The dealer that Nacho knows is Domingo Molina, aka Krazy-8. In Breaking Bad he tells Walt that he worked at his fathers store, Tampico Furniture. In his appearance here, the polo he’s wearing says Tampico on it. Here we see him working under Tuco, but in Breaking Bad he’s actually an independent drug lord who is secretly a snitch for Hank and Gomez. Hank mentions that Tuco and Krazy-8 had become rivals, and that they suspected Tuco of killing him (not knowing of course that it was actually Walt).
During Breaking Bad, Tuco had only recently been released from prison (and his cellmate was Skinny Pete). This episode reveals that it was Mike who orchestrated this
It was so funny when he didn’t realize who it was. I was waiting for the reaction on his face. 😭
That's part of what makes this the best prequel ever. They paid so close attention to their own history and didn't forget any of the things that seemed like one liners were developed into something so much more.
Krazy 8 was being fed BS by Lalo though so he's not a snitch...
@@nevergonnagiveupuntilibeco5690 by the time of breaking bad he is
@@nevergonnagiveupuntilibeco5690 He is. Lalo inspired Krazy-8 to start actually snitching to the DEA, and he snitched his own cousin, Emilio, almost killing Jesse to shake off suspicion
Not sure if you've picked it up, but in the scene with the arms dealer, Mike seems to be speaking from first hand experience, which heavily implies that he was a sniper in Vietnam. Going into law enforcement after also makes a lot of sense.
Yeah. The war criminal -> cop pipeline is concerningly common, and not surprising.
@@please_im_a_staaargood thing Mike isn’t real
We need a younger mike series
@jamesog2858
But still have Johnathan Banks play young Mike just for lolz.
@@please_im_a_staaar "War criminal"
Yeah because I'm sure a bunch of kids duped into fighting were just itching to commit atrocities
"that all you got?" Is the coldest line EVER delivered
I think the most chilling line I've heard was in True Detective S1, when Rust quietly tells a woman he's interrogating, "If you get the opportunity, you should kill yourself."
spoken like a true anime character
A certain Nacho line from later in the series might take that cake
Raymond Cruz is such a scene stealer, so glad he got more time in this show.
Mike (the character)'s acting is so hilarious when he's pretending to be some oblivious old guy. The "Awww come on guys" is so jarring knowing who Mike actually is. It's perfect
Mannnnn Mike took that beating like a champ. We’ve seen Tuco beat someone to death over something much smaller than this so I’m glad he made it outta there alive. I think he underestimated just how crazy Tuco is 😭 and yeah as others have pointed out that guy you thought looked familiar was Krazy-8 from season 1 of breaking bad. The dude Walt was having a hard time deciding whether or not to kill until he noticed that he had kept a broken piece of plate to use as a weapon. It’s interesting seeing all of these characters before the chaos of breaking bad, plus all the new additions like Nacho, Kim and Howard are all great to watch as well. The interactions in this show are gold
That was Crazy 8, Walts fiest kill in BB, the guy he choked in the basement
@17:04 I still don't know who was more of a badass. Mike, who just took the hardest punch imaginable at his age.... Or Tuco, who saw guns pointed at him and still swung under the threat of fire. FUCKING AMAZING character writing.
wild that you didn’t recognize Crazy 8 but you immediately recognized the gun guy, because my first viewing was flipped haha I didn’t recognize the gun dude until a latter episode down the line. super cool that Vince and Co. kept certain roles in mind for former BB cast
To be fair so much happened in Breaking Bad after the first few episodes and since the Crazy 8 incident that I don't blame him that he doesn't remember him, especially since he watched it a long time ago.
For the millionth time, I love Mike. And every time I remembered while watching BCS the cowardly way Walter killed him in BB I cursed Walter.
The Assassination of Mike Ehrmantraut by the Coward Walter White.
What is so crazy about Jimmy and Chuck, is that I think both of them were comedic actors before these roles. And so was Walt for that matter. My theory is that comedic actors have some really hidden talent for really dramatic and serious roles.
The scene with Mike talking about the sniper rifle, hints that he is a vietnam vet. So we can assume that Mike spent the 60s or early 70's doing a tour in nam, where he most likely was a sniper. That means that he wasn't just a recruit, but most likely a highly trained soldier. He is familiar with leadership, weapons and killing. And then he spent like maybe the maybe the next 25-30 years being a cop. A profession where he most likely solved complex cases, and picked up a lot about the criminal world. And then he brought his military knowledge, and sharp eyes of a cop, into the world of crime. The criminal world was not ready for Mike. Only one who got the drop on Mike, was the person he saw as a pathetic weakling.
As far as I can tell... Comedic actors are SERIOUS actors who fell into their genres. As a fan of "IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILIDELPHIA" their podcast opens up about their plights as actors living in LA. They've mentioned once or twice that most "comedic" actors are just ACTUAL actors who just kinda chose or leaned into the comedy aspect of roles.
I think it's more because they're actual thespians, and comedy is merely a genre within the larger mode of drama. Without drama, there would be no comedy, as there would be no tragedy either, and since they're proficient in the full range it makes sense that it would come easily for them to fall into such roles. A lot of actors also get typecast based on their breakthrough roles, that's why likes of Bob Odenkirk and Bryan Cranston spent a lot of their careers stuck in comedic roles, and likewise types of Timothy Dalton spent most of their lives performing more serious roles, despite the fact that all of them can handle any aspect of the dramatic range.
True. Just look at Jim Carry. He literally puts on a mask and acts as a double for joe biden. That clip of biden tripping on the stairs on the plane? That was Jim Carrey under the mask. Comedians pupeteered by freemasons can get big roles.
I think Nacho was taken aback to see how although obviously a real bad-ass, Mike preferred not to kill unless he had to. Smarts can be more effective than bullets.
The more episodes involving Nacho the better. Michael Mando did an amazing job with his character... Mike and Nando are my absolute faves
Chuck's character is the definition of "It's better to be happy than be right"
I'll say it again and again - i hate Jimmy's brother - such a tedious and annoying character
Pretty much every episode reaction I see James liking something or some character. And I'm grinning thinking, "Wait until you see this/that/ person." But it's hard to not mention something that you think somebody would enjoy but not spoil the series.
L? 😈
It’s awesome seeing you watch this show. It may be slower compared to Breaking Bad, but the slow burn is completely worth it. And seeing characters like Crazy 8 and Tuco appearing is amazing as appearances like these happen here and there and don’t overstay their welcome. I hope you’re doing well James, have a great day and take care!
Can't ignore the fact that @ first Tuco respected his elders . then
....,...... Tuco did what Tuco does
It's so crazy that Jimmy is so close to success, but has to become slipping Jimmy when he's not given a chance to prove himself, it is his fault but, His brother Chuck doesnt give him one break especially after all that caring that Jimmy did, he really is looking for a father figure or mentor or something. Kim is the best thing that ever happened to Jimmy and you just want that relationship to flourish. Damn he deserves better, he's earned it!
"I wanna throw a phone at him!"
I had to let it sink in a little. I know its obvious for some, but the phone would hurt more cause of his "allergies to electricity" thing. That was good man. Made me hyena laugh!
The guy that looked familiar is the one Walter strangled in the basement with the bike lock in the first or second season. He was one of the gangsters that threatened Walter and Jesse in the RV and he gassed both. But this guy, Domingo, or Crazy 8, survived. Then Walter killed in the basement.
17:41-17:57 I've got a theory about this, it's penance. Because in Mike's eyes his guilt can never be lifted about his son's death, so this was an act of penance because of the good this will bring to his daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
Ooooo interesting catch!
You are my favorite reactor I just wish you would upload more better call Saul. At this rate it will take a year or more for you to be done
Its always been my theory that Chucks condition is a physical manifestation of his subconscious guilt over how he deliberately hurts Jimmy's career. Chuck loves Jimmy yet his ego wont let him see the positive changes Jimmy has made. Without giving spoilers...something will happen that proves Chuck right and relieves that guilt.
Jimmy literally hurts his own career. This whole Davis and Maine thing proves that
@pencil6965 Right. That's when Chucks condition started improving because his actions were justified.
It's funny seeing Raymond Cruz on BB/BCS and seeing him on The Closer/Major Crimes play two characters that couldn't be more opposite and not being all that hard to seperate the two
In the conversation with the gun salesman, Mike implies that he's a Vietnam War veteran.
"You seem familiar with this one (the M40)."
"... You could say that."
Jonathan Banks even confirmed this.
The guy you rembered from breaking bad is Krazy-8. Last time you saw him was as he was dripping through the ceiling in Jesses house 😅
That was Emilio. Krazy 8 was still locked up in the basement watching it drip down there. lol
@@hbk314 yeah true i somehow thought it was Krazy-8
DAMN
You oft make comparisons to video games, as it’s a point of reference you have. Perhaps maybe you could do video game reviews, it would be a good Patreon exclusive.
Brother, you need to watch/rract to another Guy Richie film...Rock N Rolla
Just imagine if Tuco had been assassinated by a sniper. The cartel would be all over the area. Mike basically saved the whole town.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the patreon poll decide on Succession as the next show?
Better late than never. I will never miss a reaction. Thank you as always man. Loving the journey.
Mike's death in BB will never sirt right with me. From a storytelling point of view it was the wrong choice.
If you want to see the actor who plays chuck in a complete opposite role please please please watch This Is Spinal Tap. Really funny movie
14:30 Tampico....you think they got a sick crib to buy?
14:00 Breaking Bad, when Walter drops the plate in the basement and figures out theres a missing piece
You cut out the part where Mike commented on the wooden stock of the sniper rifle not being suitable for the jungle. I don't know if you picked up on it but I am pretty sure Mike was a sniper in Vietnam.
We may lose jimmy Magill. But we gain sal goodman!!!
Man I can’t wait for every new episode. I love your style of video and this show just fucking slaps.
Good afternoon, I'm seriously considering getting on your patron. But before making such a wallet-e decision, I have a question:
When it appears you are speaking over the dialogue do you actually pause/rewind?
Not an insult, just doing some shop before picking up something. Thanks man!
Kim, Nacho, Howard, Chuck, etc. All definitive proof that Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould can fabricate complex, charismatic, and intelligent characters out of their asses.
That dude was Krazy-8.
17:35 Nacho says "you just went a long way not to pull that trigger." I wonder how this scene might have been different if the writers started with Better Call Saul and didn't have the history of Breaking Bad to worry about. The writers knew they wanted to use Tuco, but couldn't overuse him so his return is more impactful if you watch it in chronological order. So this was a perfect way to do that. But if they didn't have that restriction, would they have killed off Tuco?
I absolutely ADORE what you said around 5:35 about being able to predict how certain characters will react or behave and it makes you feel smart. Its such an important thing to me that makes BCS one of the greatest television shows ever, everyone feels like organic people who are understandable. Subversion of expectation is nice, but not when it sacrifices character, and i think this show treads that line masterfully
Reacts to Fargo s4 & s5!!!!
Gotta love bobby singer
Chuck understands Jimmy and so cannot respect him. Jimmy respects Chuck, but only because he doesn't understand him. Jimmy craves respect and Chuck desperately wishes Jimmy would understand him.
Just a little note:
This episode was written by Gordon Smith. Keep an eye on this name because he wrote and/or directed some of the best episodes you'll see in the series.
Tuco clearly got another pair of those boxing gloves (the ones Mike took off of him)- he’s wearing them when he gets killed in BB
"I wanna throw a phone at him" is crazy😂
Better yet, throw a ringing phone with Bluetooth and WiFi on at him.
You have an issue with Uncharted lol
an issue? lol
Mike's death on breaking bad seem unfitting to the character of Mike, but in the end, he also broke bad. That's the whole point of the series
Mike is the G
He doesnt get humiliated. Lets be real. Walt even said sorry and respected mike last wish
I don’t think any platform of media can top this as a prequel or spin-off.
Omnipotent = all powerful
Omniscient = all knowing
13:15 😆
I believe that guy is Crazy 8 from BB.
'I wanna throw a phone at him!'
Smh what inappropriate chicanery
Awesome reaction of my favorite episode of Breaking Bad!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Hahahaha this is Better Call Saul 😂
Mike took a half measure when he should have gone all the way
🎶 WE LIVE WE LOVE WE LIE! 🎶 💙 🤣 blue Smurf meme forever
Mike: "You...and you're ego."
Lowkey, Saul makes for some cringier scenes than Breaking Bad did.
Yes, but it’s good cringe. BB has a mix of good cringe and bad cringe.
BCS has nothing that even comes close to Skyler's birthday song
How is it possible that i see comments in here timestamped as “6 mo ago”, when the video itself is less than an hour old? Time travel?
Patreon bro
How is it possible that people still need to ask this?
No half measures...
The guy that plays Clifford Main of HHM Is a horrible actor.
What? He's a legendary actor.
Any reason for that? Seems good in BCS at least
@@j.prt.979 Any reason for that? Yeah, just watch him act, he's horrible.
@@Sandman60077 I've watched him act in BCS. He comes across as a believable boss
