Skiing at 12 mph...ugh! Good for you Chad, just avoid the slack! And kudos to Jennifer, she's a wakeboard BOSS! You make me want to get back out there and give it a go...haven't skied in quite a few years, but that ol' Jobe slalom is still tucked back in the garage! Also, that sunset footage...that is my favorite time to be out on the boat. Love me a sunset/twilight cruise. 👍🚤🌜
In high school I once was able to waterski behind a 14 foot fishing boat with a 30 hp motor. At 180 lbs I had to start on 2 skis and then drop one once up to speed. The front of the boat was over 4 feet off the water for at least 3 minutes. Turning the boat meant you sank to the point where you were essentially staring over.
My dad knows... or knew, he's 75 now, trying to take life easy....how to water ski. I've personally never tried it, but it does look like fun. I wonder if you can still be a beginning learner at 47...lol. 😂 I've always been the lazy, canoe, fishing type. Like Bill Dance and those bass fishing shows. Did a lot of fishing when I was younger. I've always wanted to try those giant, floating tricycle things that you can pedal...those look like fun. 😄 Thanks for sharing, Chad and Jennifer! 😎
You can definitely still learn at 47! But I'd learn behind a ski boat and not a pontoon boat if I were you. I like to watch fishing - and other people fish. But I'm no good at it. 7 people in a row can cast their line in the same fishing hole at the same time - the other 6 people will pull out a fish and I'll still be waiting on a nibble. :)
Thanks! It was fun to try - because I wasn't honestly sure if I'd be able to ski behind it. I've seen some pretty powerful pontoon boats out on the lake. Most of the time they're tri-toons with the 200, 250, or 300 hp engines. I've even seen a couple with twin engines - one behind each pontoon.
Thanks for sharing! I'm wanting to pull a tube and don't have to tow bar on our pontoon boat. I was wandering if I could tow like you did with a split rope hooked to the tie-down loops one the boat. We have a 90hp on ours.
Absolutely! Here's the harness I used in the video: Affordura Boat Tow Harness for Tubing Ski Tow Harness for Boat for 4 Riders, Tube Tow Harness with Large Clip Quick Connector: amzn.to/3qySzFR
Thanks! Mackenzie broke her shoulder socket and had a completely torn labrum - from a volleyball injury her Junior year. She continued to play even with the torn labrum and broken socket through her senior year. After volleyball season, she had surgery so that she’d have full functionality of her arm for college. She’s got most of her range of motion back at this point - but still has to build up strength. She can only lift about 4 lbs with her right arm right now. Thanks for asking about her.
letsss goooooo bro nicely done im like 165 and we used to ski all the time with my family and my dads friend Tony. he could salomon ,or that ever it is with just the 1 ski and also barefoot. my left knee is so cooked idk if i could ski today. i do have a paddle kayak and been fishing like a mofo here lately lol 😊😊
Good Morning Sir, ( Very Nice Picture of your Daughter and you Puppy dog ). I think that gravity is THE VITAL FACTOR Sir 🤔👍😇👌Having your wife and daughter is much better but YOU did very well Sir and I do not want to do potatoes duty Sir👌😇👍Now I'm 218 lbs and aiming to 210 lbs or less, I will probably be THE PERFECT Sea anchor Sir for your boat 🤣👍Cheers 🍻🍻
Absolutely. I think it would be very difficult to learn with only 60 hp - unless you’re a young child or a very lightweight person. Thanks for watching!
If that same engine was on a small light boat with no more than two people it would do far better for sure, of course still under powered but I know from experience pulling guys on one ski ( and yes starting out with one ski ) that it can be done. The trick and that would apply to higher powered jet skis as well is creating rope slack. Without the proper amount of tow rope slack its painful to watch as there is no snap to pop a skier out and the boat can't get going with that heavy drag. With powerful light boats you don't want slack unless you want longer arms but with marginal power its thee ticket to making do. Its long ago now but used to drive friends and other peoples boats ( and the boat we had at the time ) if they were short a driver as not just anyone should be behind the wheel driving a boat when dealing with water sports for safety reasons as I am sure you can relate to.
Driving for a skier or wakeboarder is definitely a skill. I've always enjoyed driving the ski boat and teaching others how to ski/wakeboard/kneeboard. As I kid, we'd go to the SeaWorld water show and watch the professional waterskiiers in action - I always wanted to drive the boat!
@@PurpleCollarLife I am guessing your speaking of SeaWorld Florida as I have heard and also seen a bit of video of the ski act they used to do there. I was in SeaWorld California long ago once which obviously doesn't count 😉. And yes, being behind the wheel of a boat when people are in the water holds a lot of safety responsibility in every move that is made.
Hello - that's correct - on these lakes in PA, the orange flag isn't used for the skier in the water. I sometimes wish we did use that system - because there have been some times that other boats have come way too close to our downed skier or cut too close to our boat as we return to pick up the person in the water.

Hi Chris - you should get back out and get on the water some time with that slalom ski!! It's a lot of fun just to prove "I can still do it".
I can totally picture that! Thanks for sharing.
I used to knee board behind a pontoon boat all the time

Nice! Gotta try and see if it works. Good job on finding out it does. Now to slap a Mercury 300 Verado on that rig! Woop woop!
Thanks! It was fun to try - because I wasn't honestly sure if I'd be able to ski behind it.

@@PurpleCollarLife thanks I appreciate it!
Yes, soft water for sure!
It certainly makes me wish I were about 100 lbs lighter! :)
Nice job fun on the water that's what it is all about.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching.
Great info.
Why did Mackenzie need shoulder surgery?
Hopefully she's fully recovered, or almost there.
Thanks! Mackenzie broke her shoulder socket and had a completely torn labrum - from a volleyball injury her Junior year. How fast would the pontoon go without pulling the skier with 2 people on the boat?
This pontoon with 3 people (we've never had just two) reaches a maximum of 19 mph on the water with the 60 HP engine.
@@PurpleCollarLife appreciate the reply and video
Hey do a video of Jennifer if she wants to drive the 2010 Ford RANGER truck n video it
Great idea!
@@PurpleCollarLifedo it it’s fun

Thanks for watching! I've tried barefoot before behind the boat. I think I could do it - but Jennifer refuses to drive fast enough for that. :)

It does help to know how to ski first

Didn't see an orange flag when the skier was down in the water. Not required in PA?
Hello - that's correct - on these lakes in PA, the orange flag isn't used for the skier in the water. How heavy is the boat
Dry weight of boat and Mercury 60 Bigfoot is about 2400 lbs.
So a mercury 60 hp 4 stroke on a 900 lbs speed boat should not struggle to pull one slalom skier out right?
