    Edit: be careful with Atomstack, they tend NOT to provide technical assistance, so if you happen to have a machine that is not perfect, there is serious trouble
    Thanks for the tutorial ----- the shielding cage around the laser made me prefer the Atomstack (bought for less than 200 €) , which despite being spartan (it does not have limit switches and not even the on / off switch) is robust and comes already partially assembled, but the fact that they do not provide technical assistance suggests that they are a firm not to be recommended

    My Atomstack A5 pro is the best. My ortut didn't last very long. I'm glad I got the Atomstack and now also a NEJE 40w. Very good machines.

    I have the atomstack, pure junk, wish I had bought the Ortur. Here is why, the Ortur has 4 wheels to guide the laser, the atomstack only has 3, and you keep getting a wobble, impossible to tighten.Next if you use lightburn you have to eyeball the framing no matter what keys you press you cannot get the laser light to work, next is the auto stops, the atomstack has none, the Ortur does.
    Last is customer service, forget about contacting atomstack the only response you get is send videos of the problem, they will not offer any help.
    My advice to anyone who reads this comment is buy the Ortur.

      Hi Bob! I don't think Atomstack can be considered junk.
      The machine I have had the opportunity to test is solid and works well, no wobble. You may not know it, but one of the 3 screws you speak of has an eccentric ring, which can be adjusted with the wrench (which you find supplied with the machine) to adjust the tightening.
      The machine is equipped with a standard grbl firmware. I don't know the kind of issue you re talking about (i don't use lightburn) but I believe it is not a problem of the machine (maybe an issue with lightburn configuration?). However I have forwarded your message to my contact in Atomstack so they can check your issue.

      @@lasergrbl I know about the eccentric, and have tightened it several times. I just ordered this to solve the problem: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001814032210.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.acd14c4dIZvGJQ

    The Atomstack's shield has a built in flaw.
    Because the smoke and debris is trapped inside the shield, it will ultimately degrade the laser lens and the laser's burning ability.
    The shield also prevents an air assist from being attached. A bit of a redesign of the shield would allow air to be blown downward inside the shield and blow the smoke and debris out of the shield area.

    • @lasergrbl
      @lasergrbl  3 года назад +3

      Hi Scott. I can confirm what you say because in fact I measured a performance drop of about 20% on the Atomstack (measured with laser power meter) after some uses.
      However, this also happens with other open laser engraver (a little less) especially when the focus is very close to the workpiece.
      This is why I suggest my users to clean the lens from time to time to bring it back to its initial efficiency.
      I agree with the other comments about air assist, but a "maker" can always make a hole in the screen or remove it entirely to place an air assist.

      Yes it does, here is what I did, I took a picture of the side shields, drew a half circle on the bottom, saved as a dfx and cut new ones, also added an air assist, but it all comes back to the atomstack being a P.O.S. compared to the Ortur

    Thanks for that video. It really feels that both have space for improvements but for the cost I don't think anyone can really complain. But that stops are a great plus, I was running in panic to cut the power from my atomastack once I realized I pressed the move in keyboard too many times and it was going to try and move over the limits.
    Then again the way you adjust height on ortur really looks like a pain, in the atomstack is not ideal but you can just replace the 2 screws with butterfly screws and have easy no tools adjustment in seconds.

    • @lasergrbl
      @lasergrbl  3 года назад +2

      You are right about the screws ... the problem is not so much the needs of Allen key as the fact that after a some times you unscrew and re-screw them the thread is worn.
      I wrote my suggestions to Atomstack, I hope they will apply these improvements for the next versions

    Hello, there!
    You made a very nice video here!
    As far as engraving speeds, which one is faster, given the fact that atomstack has an 8bit mainboard and ortur upgraded to 32bit? Does this difference have any impact on the quality+engraving speed of the lasers?
    Thank You!

    • @lasergrbl
      @lasergrbl  3 года назад

      Hi
      8 or 32 bit does not make too much difference in engraving speed (which is limited more by the speed of the motors, than by that of the control board).
      The reasons to prefer a machine with 32-bit controller is that this is more open to improvements and firmware updates (the 8-bit one is at the limit of its possibilities as far as future developments are concerned).
      The reason for preferring the 8-bit one is that it uses standard grbl, while Ortur on its 32-bit controller is using a custom grbl that they don't release the source code (however it is well done and without any particular bugs).

    What info do you have on the 2021 model? and why are the prices ranging from $117 to almost $300 for what appears to be the same 20 watt model?

    • @lasergrbl
      @lasergrbl  3 года назад +1

      The main difference is on laser module. The square-shaped spot of the new A5 Pro give higher energy density and corrects the divergence problem that most common lasers module currently have (you can know more about this effect if you watch my "Laser Engraving Myths and Truth
      " video).
      I'm doing some measurements and some benchmarks to verify the performance increase in real use situations (cut, engrave...). Time a couple of days and I should be able to edit a video with these results, but it looks promising.
      Regarding the price I think it is difficult to find something at 117 $ as you say: the average price for a 20W 40x40 laser engraver is near 270$
