Hide and Seek Idli Vada | A Fun and Flavorful Twist on a Classic Snack

  • Hello everyone! 🎉 Today, I’m sharing my Hide and Seek Idli Vada recipe with you! 🥳 This playful and delicious twist on the traditional idli vada features a hidden surprise inside, making it a fun and flavorful snack perfect for any occasion. 🍽️ Follow along as I guide you through each step to create this delightful treat that’s sure to impress!
    RECIPE
    INGREDIENTS FOR IDLI WADA:
    Prepared idlis 8-10
    Split black gram (urad dal) 1 cup
    Green chilli 1
    Grated ginger 1 tsp
    Salt as per taste
    Oil for deep frying
    INGREDIENTS FOR COCONUT CHUTNEY:
    Grated fresh coconut 1 cup
    Green chilli 1
    Grated ginger 1 tsp
    Curd 1 tbsp
    Roasted peanuts 2 tbsp (or roasted chana dal 1 tbsp)
    Salt and sugar to taste
    INGREDIENTS FOR TEMPERING:
    Oil 1 tbsp
    Black gram dal (urad dal) 1 tsp
    Mustard seeds and asafoetida (hing) for tempering
    Dry red chillies 2
    Curry leaves 3-4
    METHOD:
    1) To prepare the wada batter, wash and soak the urad dal in water for about 2-3
    hours. Drain the water, add green chili and ginger. Grind it into a fine thick paste
    with the minimum quantity of water. Whip the batter well until it becomes fluffy.
    Add salt and mix well.
    2) To prepare coconut chutney, combine grated fresh coconut, green chili, ginger, curd,
    peanuts, salt and sugar. Grind them into a slightly coarse paste. Prepare the
    tempering with the tempering ingredients and pour it over the chutney. Mix well.
    3) Dip the idlis in the wada batter to coat them properly. Deep fry the idli-wadas in hot
    oil until they become golden and crispy.
    4) To serve, make a horizontal slit in each idli wada. Fill the slit with coconut chutney
    and serve hot in banana leaf cone.
