Recently I felt the need for a bit of adventure, so (vaguely) planned to run the length of Dartmoor. It's 50km of bogs, hills, LOTS OF WIND and, in this case, some gorgeous weather!
I did this with my friend Georgie, who is a 2:54 marathoner, but has NEVER run on trails like this in her life! So a pretty epic achievement from her.
Sorry about the wind on day 1... I also wish it had been calmer, but that's the moors for you.

Well done to both of you, they were some fun conditions! I did my first ultra across Dartmoor in August, 55k from Belstone in the north to Ivybridge and it was soooo boggy. The weather gods weren't so kind that day either, but I loved every second!
Thank you for also mentioning the Darwall case. As someone who wild camps on Dartmoor (I like to get the train from Bristol too), I can only hope the courts rule in the interest of the public...

Loved the video, this is the first one I've seen of yours, and it got a subscribe out of me.
I live nearby, and often go walking on Dartmoor, especially the section of the final quarter of your run (after 'The Dartmoor Volcano'). It's always nice to see places you know in other people's videos.
I will just say that at 26:00 that River Avon is a different River Avon than the one near Bristol, I think there are about 4 or 5 rivers with that name (it means River, so it's essentially River River) in England, and I made the same mistake when I first moved here.
I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

You had a nice mix of Dartmoor weather...
I personally find I get into a bog hopping rhythm on the moors to lengthen / shorten stride so feet don't disappear and disrupt my flow.
Kind of makes me want to run the crossing route again!

What an absolutely incredible adventure!! Loved Georgie, she seems like a blast as an adventure partner! It was great to experience the breathtaking scenery and adorable animals with you- without having to experience the mud! 😂
I'm lucky enough to live in the NE of the US, where solo women having wilderness adventures is quite common. I think it's very easy to fear the unknown, when you don't see others like you tackling similar challenges. Thank you for being a "trail blazer" for others!
I'd be curious if the reason that family is fighting wild camping is because they've dealt with a lot of disrespect, damage, and litter? It's those jerks that typically ruin outdoor access in the US. (Along with our litigious culture. ) The answer might be about organizing an official group that regularly educates about Leave No Trace, and looks for/ fixes damage left by the schmucks. The right to roam is a beautiful thing. Disrespecting the property of others, and nature in general, is crap.

Re the Darwalls, yes, that is their argument. But it’s not really wild campers who cause the most damage and destruction, it’s daily walkers and picnickers. In my experience, wild campers are those with the most love and respect for nature.
To stop any damage you’d have to stop all access, and that’s impossible (not to mention highly problematic in a national park!).
It’s a frustrating development and I hope for the sake of future generations that access continues to be allowed
