As a long-time viewer I want to encourage you seeing this chapter end with the grooming journey, you did school and had a solid career doing something you love, and now it’s not the path you need to be on anymore and you were able to recognize that and choose yourself over the career. No doubt you’re talented as a groomer and those dogs were looking fresh, but like you said - never say never. It’s refreshing to see someone making a choice like that because I know it wasn’t easy, you’re doing the damn thing as always and we’re here for whatever comes next for you!! 🖤

I can definitely relate to the health scare with your mom. My mom passed away in November. I’m absolutely heartbroken 💔 losing a parent is such an indescribable pain. I know how close you were with your dad. Your dad was such a nice person, so funny. I loved seeing him in your videos
It's sad to leave a job that you were at for years. I left a job I was at for 6 years. New owner came on and he was not a good person. So for my sanity and emotional well being, I quit.
hey girl, i’m 5 mins in only but i want to say i can relate to this FULLY. i was a hairdresser for 6 years. did school and then went right to salon. everyday was a battle, i was missing time with my family, missing my social life, even ended a relationship! wild. before working i used to LOVE coloring hair, i said to myself this is what i was meant to do. but same with you im hard on myself and it also didn’t come easy at all, some girls just had it. well after 5 years in a salon i got burnt out completely, hated it. like HATED it. i was in a terrible depression. i quit, when i tell you the feeling afterwards… omg. so great. for a month you may go through regret and question yourself sometimes, but it passes! now i’m a nurse and i love it, i am lucky to have normal hours and everything now. i’ll never let a place use me again! i hope it makes you feel better people can totally relate. you are in a limbo time now, it will pass! and you’ll be so happy ❤
I had a second job years ago that I absolute loved! I worked at an animal shelter taking care of all the ones on the adoption floor as well as the ones in the back recovering from illness/surgeries. But the people I worked with made it hell to be there. I quit over a situation that was the final straw for me but the head person decided she was firing me. Told her "I don't care what wording makes you feel better I'm done". I missed working with animals so much that last year I found a side job as a pet sitter and wkend worker at a cat hotel boarding place. I am loving being around animals again.

The guard combs can go in the ultrasonic cleaner, that's how I clean all my guards and blades!
The ultrasonic cleaner never got them clean enough for me. It does wonders for my blades but not my guard combs.
I always enjoy watching your videos and I also love how real and raw you are never leaving anything unknown. You speak how you feel and not a lot of people do that on RUclips anymore. Your mom is still in my thoughts.
I think any big change like this is so hard to process mentally. But you definitely have to do what’s best for you, especially since we spend so much time in our jobs. Wishing you the best for your next steps!

I completely understand your sadness around leaving your job, I felt the same way when I joined the military and had to quit working at my local animal shelter. I know things have been really tough, but it will all get better. Much love, D 💚❤️

I cannot believe you were grooming for FOUR YEARS!? I swore it was only 2. You had me questioning if it was something i should pursue. Its still a toss up for me but im going to wait to hear back from you on the other video about what you end up saying you left it for. Pros/cons would be wonderful! It does seem frustrating [just no one is as well trained as my own dogs..]. Im glad you made the harder choice as that forces you to grow! I can't wait to see what's next for you. The new filming room looks fantastic! I bet the sunlight will help even more with that angle!
I know! I can't believe it's been 4 years already. That time went by SO fast. The biggest thing with getting into dog grooming is the environment you're in. Work under other groomers, stand up for yourself, know your limits, quality over quantity, and humanity over vanity always. I wish I would've stuck up for myself sooner and now I know what I can and can't handle. If it's something you really want to do, it can be a very rewarding career as long as you're in the right environment. Also find a place that values other groomers, sometimes groomers can be very petty and mean but finding a place where other groomers will help you improve and learn will be the best place to start and stay.

Bree I posted this on one of your older videos but I'm getting my second tattoo on Monday (yes I'm back already for another one, I'm not addicted what are you talking about lmao). I'm getting a jack o lantern with fall leaves around it and I am so excited! This one will have a lot more color and my appointment is like two and a half hours. Also after that I'll be going up a size for my ears, I figured out why I've been having so many failed attempts because I was trying to go from a 20-22g to a 14g lmao. Love you!

I’m pretty certain that you and I started grooming around the same time! I started in August of 2020 and I feel like you started a few months earlier than that? I can’t remember lol! But I was a dog bather at Petco from Aug ‘20 to Aug ‘22 almost exactly to the date. I knew from the get go that I was not pleased to be working with one of the other groomers. I thought about leaving within the first month just because of her. Long story short, 2 years went by, complaint after complaint, drama every single day, problems after problems with this groomer coming from both customers and employees, yet she was still never disciplined or talked to. She had multiple abuse cases on file over the years from different locations, yet still allowed to work at the company? It was a hostile work environment for everyone in that salon because of this groomer and nothing was going to be done. I dreaded going into work and I hated my life! I made so many amazing relationships with clients and their dogs! I loved seeing all of them and I had so many regulars! They were the on,y reason I continued to work there as long as I did. I LOVED them! For pretty much the entire 2 years I worked there I always said I was going to quit and that I was going to leave, but I really never REALLY wanted to. I kept talking to my family about it and making an ultimatum for myself, but would never follow through. Months went by like this and finally I said, August 28th is my last day. I need to tell the managers, and that’s that. I kept waiting for the “right moment” and “right time”, but it was scary! Again I didn’t actually want to leave. I wanted to stay more than anything! I knew I wouldn’t tell the managers, so I told my clients. I remember the first clients I told, Marvin, Molly and Lucy, Belgian Sheepdog mix, a lab mix and a chi/beagle/terrier mix. They came in every 8wks and their next appt would be in Sept. I had to tell their mom at pickup, but one of the other groomers (an absolute angel💗) was working with me that day. I was so nervous and was just hoping she’d leave the room by the time their mom got there, but I didn’t want her to walk in on me dropping that crazy info! So I mustered up the courage and told her that I was leaving and that I needed to tell my clients so that I would actually follow through. She was so kind and supportive, but also sad to see me go, but she understood what had been happening and knew it was for the best. We were also in the middle of a remodel, and our check out desk was being moved outside the grooming salon. Yay for me! I was able to continue to tell clients that I was leaving, but do so separately and not in front of the other groomers. This went on for a couple weeks. One of my regulars-Millie and Kona the huskies-called to talk and to make some appts. They wanted to make one for mid August, and sometime early Sept because of a schedule conflict on their end. I told them that August was my last month. They were so kind and sweet about it and worked their schedule around so the girls could come in for one last grooming with me. Again at that point I had only told 1 coworker that I was leaving. Kona’s appt day came up and that was the day that I decided I needed to tell my manager. I had been trying to build the courage to tell her that I needed to talk with her, but I would always chicken out. I finally quickly said that I needed to talk with her about something by the end of the day, but that it could wait til we both had a free moment. She thought nothing of it and said she would make time when I was ready. I was so jittery the entire day, cause I told her at like 8:30 or 9am, just so I could have time to mentally prepare. Kona was my last dog of the day and she is a handful, and takes so much energy to groom. She was getting older and at that point in time had just started to go blind and she was not handling it super well. Anywho, by the time I finished her I was so mentally and physically exhausted that I was going to tell my manager that we could talk a different day. I called Kona’s dad for pickup and he was on his way. I went to the back to go take a break while I was waiting for him to arrive (maybe 15mins). I headed back up to the front and he was there to pick her up and he was talking with my manager. I didn’t think anything of it, they were just having friendly conversation. I went and got Kona and we talked for a few minutes and he was on his way. I went and cleaned up my station and went to the back again to get my stuff to head home. My manager was busy at that point again, so I was gonna pop in and tell her we could talk the following day. But as I was in the back getting my stuff from the locker, she came in the room. She said she was ready to talk if I was. I had already mentally prepared myself to have the convo the next day that I was just so in shock. I told her it was ok, we could wait til tomorrow, but I was getting shaky and nervous again because I knew what I was needing to tell her. She kinda paused for a second and was quiet. She said ok, then another pause. She said “ I’m gonna be honest with you. Kona‘s dad told me that you were leaving. He was talking to me about how sad he is to see you go and that you always took great care of his girls.”. I was in complete and total shock! My client told my boss that I was leaving before I did. She wasn’t upset, just sad that I was leaving. I told her that my last day would be Aug 29th, and she told me I needed to write my official letter of resignation for corporate before then. That was 2mos notice.
July and August were wonderful and terrible all at once. I was able to see nearly every dog I had groomer over the past 2yrs those last few weeks. I wrote thank you and goodbye cards for all my clients. I took pictures of as many of my dogs as I could. I gave them extra love and care and savored every moment during their appts. I felt like such a bad person leaving all these dogs. I had a lot of sensitive and nervous dogs that needed extra attention that I was more than happy to give. I spent so much time earning their trust and I was leaving them. It felt terrible! I knew my clients were amazing, but they were all so kind and supportive which ALSO made me feel bad. But I appreciated all the love and gratitude I felt those last two months. I knew they recognized and appreciated my love for their dog and that I was deeply sad to leave.
Sunday, August 28th - my final day. The last day to squeeze in any dog that I needed to see before I left. I groomed a total of 12 dogs is the span of 9 ish hrs? Granted they were all bath dogs, but still! I was averaging about 4-5 depending on size in an 8hr shift. I groomed my last dog at Petco - Nova the Am Staff. The sweetest girl in the world. Her mom adopted her from a rescue. Nova was previously a bait dog and had some serious scars on her body. But you wouldn’t have ever guessed that! She is the most cuddly, sweetest, lovey dog I’ve met!
I took a 5 month break from grooming. When I quit I seriously thought I was never going to groom again. I was so emotionally drained from my time there and the shit show my life had become. I made a scrapbook with so many pictures of the dogs I had worked with there. It made me so sad, but also I wanted to have a memory of my time there and the impact they had on my life. Just writing and thinking about them now is making me cry lol. I’ve been gone for 1yr and 8mos. I still think about them all the time. I go through old pictures of them. It breaks my heart and I wish I wasn’t force to leave because of a single person.
However, here I am at a new salon. I started Aug 4th of last year and I could not be happier! I love my coworkers, my bosses are amazing and the client are wonderful! I’ve made so many new connections and love so many new dogs! But I still love my Petco babies and miss them dearly. I don’t know if I’ll ever have dogs that I love that much again. And I feel so dramatic when I say that, but it’s true. Ok I’m gonna stop typing now cause I’m sobbing lol! Sorry for the literal novel! I won’t blame you if you don’t read this! But I just wanted to say, I completely understand how you’re feeling. It sucks and it doesn’t feel good, but like you said, it’s for the best. Things will feel better eventually and you will feel better eventually. I know Jackyl and your dad are sending you extra love right now 💗💗
You could always continue to groom Averil and your mom’s dogs for now like you said in your vlog then go back to it if you ever decide to in the future. It’s okay to take time for you that does not mean that you failed. In my opinion I think school is good if it’s a path you want to go like you did with grooming, but I do think society does push school being the thing ppl have to do to be successful and I disagree with that thought. Keep your head up. This is a new beginning for you. I’m excited to see what is next for you in your career journey.
