Give your characters a opinions. Passive/malleable might seem likable to you as you write, but it’s poison to the audience. Adhuku artham enna naa, Ungloda charracter ku oru karathu(கருத்து) kudunga which is acceptable or can be differed according to time and situation, however it is poisonous for audience. Example - Your charracter has a opinion/Says that, Modiji and BJP is not good for the nation but it might change later. (Poisonouse edhukaaga solirukaanga na, because people with different opinion might not agree to your charracter idea or thought so adhunala unga movies or idea ku hatred or high criticism vara vaaipu iruku nu arthon, adhaan poisonous nu solirukaanga.)
