    3:33 That's an incorrect trivia question. Technically all the answers are wrong. It's actually historically Emperor Otto I. Although Charlemagne was crowned Roman Emperor in the west in 800 , the first use of the term Holy Roman Emperor wasn't used until Pope John XII crowned Otto, Duke of Saxony, Emperor Otto in 962. Just a little bit of history for you all from a history nut.

    • @kimi49783
      @kimi49783 4 года назад +7

      But that's why the question says "thought to be". Even though Otto was the first to use the HRE title, most historians mark Charlemagne's coronation as the beginning of the HRE, even if it wasn't called that quite yet. Which is probably why they didn't include Otto as an answer.

      That said, Chilled _is_ fairly knowledgeable, but the game decided to throw questions out there like "Books by Anne Rice". You'd really only know that if you were into literature, and more-so enjoyed the horror/fantasy genre. Then there was the question about the Seven Samurai, which is only something you'd know if you were into old Japanese films.
      Outside of that, knowing these random facts would just be happenstance and honestly shouldn't be chalked up to general intelligence. Tbf, I lot of words are false friends. Like PRINCipal and PRINCiple. All three originally came from princeps and two currently have little to do with the word "prince". Other examples would be APPLe and APPLication or PEDophile and PEDal which are completely unrelated. English isn't that simple, unfortunately.

    • @ArcaneSnowflake
      @ArcaneSnowflake 4 года назад

      @@kenpachinopein3954 I understand that. I am a native English speaker. however the term principality was coined in reference to a prince.
      also, the Principal is the "ruler" of the school and a principle is the "rule". they do have some reasoning to their names.
      While yes there are false friends in English, principality is not one of them and was literally created because of princes

    • @kenpachinopein3954
      @kenpachinopein3954 4 года назад

      @@ArcaneSnowflake I realize and never contested that principality isn't a false friend. That's why I brought up other ones to explain how that logic doesn't really hold up when applied to English overall. Therefore, pointing out that it has "princ" in it doesn't prove anything because it could've just been a coincidence like apple and application. Also, just because you can relate principal and principle to prince through rationality doesn't mean that they have much to do with that word in modern usage. I could say that apple and application are related because you buy both of them or because the company Apple makes applications but they aren't. Principle doesn't even come from prince so the relation is just there because they both come from the Latin "princeps" meaning "first man" or "chief". You are also forgetting that principal has two definitions, one of which has more to do with the Latin root than prince: www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/principal .
      Edit: I just wanted to add that this logic is why people think "history" comes from "his" + "story".

      Except the Roman Empire didn't split into the HRE and Byzantines.
      The Western Roman Empire fell completely, and the Eastern Empire became the Byzantines. At one brief point in history, Rome was ruled by the Byzantine Empire. In an attempt to stop the advance of Orthodox Christianity, Pope Leo III ordered a new claimant to the Roman Empire through the extremely successful Charlemagne. If not for both of them, Roman Catholicism as we know it might very well have been killed off.
      As for the Principalities... idk if they were that scared of trick questions, or if they literally couldn't read. Probably the former, but you never know.

    I was almost halfway through and I left.
    A lot of time passed between then and now and I just want to say to the public that I picked up a small piece of glass by pinching it bc I thought it was just like, a bit of fabric.
    Needless to say, this was exhausting to type with just my right thumb. May my left thumb and index survive.
    Ouch.
    I hope my blood is staying inside me by now.

    Mmm just so you know chilled. The holy roman empire came after the Roman Empire. The Holy Roman Empire was when the Roman Emperor embraced Christianity and made the whole empire do it as well. Hence the Holy part.

    • @NotChicoAndPico
      @NotChicoAndPico 4 года назад

      Eh, not really. The holy roman empire had basically nothing to do with the actual Roman Empire. It was just another power claiming to be the heir of the Romans in order to gain legitimacy. Same as the "Third Rome' thing the Russians had at some point.
