I love watching Soviet films, not only because of their cultural and historic value, or because they are a relic of a time gone by, but because of their enjoyable stories. I really enjoyed this film! I would definitely watch again.

I think they are interesting because they reflect the culture of the time. Not to mention being interesting. Some stories transcend language.
Soviet films are probably one of not so many things that were good in ussr. However, they often didn't depict the truth of life. In the movies all were so well-dressed, while it wasn't the case for most people in ussr
@@Wasp239 In the film, they are dressed according to the era, and not according to Western stereotypes. They are dressed like an average Soviet person. In addition, they are dressed mostly in a working style. They are poorly dressed, but soundly.
@@colmcmillan173It is Siberia. No fashion. Only valenki and good clothes to keep warm. 😂 If the weather is -40 or -50 people don't think of fashion.
Anfisa tried to wear fashionable clothes and be elegant though it was frost.

It's important to note, that the film is set in 1960-61. Tosya has just finished her education and she was raised in an orphanage, i.e. she was born during the ww2 and lost her family.
So she is not used to a concept of having personal things, she is used to sharing everything and helping the others (e.g. when she gives a brooch to one of the girls for the night out).
And having a whole loaf of white bread with jam is one of the true luxuries for her. My grandmother (was a child during the war) still treats white bread as valuable and as a real treat.

I am usually not in romance movies, but this one moved me to tears. Rumyantseva Nadezhda created such an adorable character. It's a light hearted movie without the smugness which usually comes with this.

I remember seeing a film set in WW2 about a group of girls who joined the military, their captain was a guy who was not very happy with the situation, he thought they were good for nothing, but when the girls went to fight on the battlefield they were brave and he suffered when some of them died. The film stuck with me but I cannot remember its title.
Most likely it was a movie called “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” (1972)

Love Ussr movies. They all have different times values.30,40-Stalin time movies quite different than 50,60 ,70ies.But i like them all.Unfortunately Eng cant reveal all Rus language nuances but id translate this film a little bit different to catch thus Russian atmosphere. This translation is too formal.Starting with the name ''Girls" .Id put a name ''Girlpals'' Devchata not quite the same as devochki or devushki.

I like that this has English sub titles. It is impossible to figure much out with Russian movies otherwise. The sub-titles roll very fast in places - Too fast for me - but that cannot be helped or adjusted. So I have looked through this movie several times increasing my understanding with each viewing. I like the movie. For us this is very new and fresh. Here, we could never see any place like where this was filmed. We have to go far and high to find just a little snow. I like the various relationship sub-plots. I have shared this to my daughter. I really don't think my ear could understand spoken Russian, lots of names and sounds seem identical. And your Alphabet is truly bewildering. My hat is off to anyone who can speak and write Russian. I would love to visit, but that is so unlikely, we could consider it impossible.

Just make a small effort to learn the Cyrillic alphabet and you will discover that many words are almost the same as in Western languages, mainly English and French. If you can read, you can roughly understand many "keywords" in the dialogs.
I am from Barcelona, and I learned the Russian alphabet when I was ten, to be able to pass notes to my classmates without the teacher or other kids being able to understand them if intercepted. With the years, it proved a very useful knowledge!
Where are you from? I am actually teaching my son Russian. He reads the Cyrillic alphabet and speaks it quite fluently.
плюсом русской письменности является то , что как слышится так и пишется , достаточно потратить немного времени на запоминание алфавита , нет буквенных сочетаний для обозначения определенного звука , для каждого есть своя буква , лишь твердый и мягкий знак изменяет произношение согласной.

Жена режиссера этого фильма Наталья Кустинская тоже хотела играть в этом фильме, но ей не удалось убедить мужа взять ее в этот фильм и слава богу, что ее не взяли. Она бы не подошла не на роль Анфисы, а тем более на роль Тоси
Это как? У Румянцевой был муж дипломат, он её на руках носил, как она рассказывала, а она ради него фактически оставила актерскую профессию.
Меньшикова (мама Вера) замужем за самим Ростоцким была. До самой смерти Станислава.
According to Nikolai Rybnikov's (the leading role actor) biography, he wanted badly his dearly beloved wife, actress Alla Larionova, to play Anfisa's part in this movie. But back then it was up to USSR "art committee" to finally decide and confirm the actors for their roles, so it happened the way we see it now in the movie.
Rybnikov’s wife wouldn’t be right for this part anyway. Her type was a better fit for aristocratic or fairy-tale characters that she played - can’t picture her playing the simple working class girl. I think Rumyantseva is perfect in this movie. Love her acting.

Получилась лучшая версия этого фильма. Ларионова, тем не менее, прекрасная актриса.
Казалось бы такой простой фильм . Не какой сложности в съёмках.
НО артисты то парились в тёплой одежде, то на морозе камера замерзала.
читал как снимался фильм , с удивлением узнал что , например сцена , где парочка сидела на лавочке в окружении заснеженных 1 :32:47 снималась на южном курорте при жаре 30 градусов цельсия , снег был ненастоящим , не помню где и как проводились другие съёмки , но этот факт запомнился , декораторы большие профессионалы

I am so thankful for this youtube accunt providing and posting these bautiful soviet era films with english subtitles. These subtitles I love very much. Hope they shall post more of the older 1930's - 1960's soviet films. This one being one of my all time favorites. So sweet, funny, beautiful, and full of all meaningful emotions. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤍💙♥

Before there were "girls", there were these "girls". I don't think for a minute that Soviet work camps were this much fun, but very sweet movie none the less. Shot in glorious black & white.
