Money is not wasted if it is spent and used because it gets circulated back into the local economy. When money never gets used is when it is wasted. The current steel track rail for Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART), now known as Skyline, wasn't funded for construction until 2005.
Ground breaking construction wasn't until early 2011.
Disruptions to businesses in the Ewa section of rail began about a couple of years after that. As disruptions to rerouting traffic began in 2012 - 2013; which is about a decade ago.
So what I was saying is that the City Council should've had a plan in place prior to that time frame, as businesses in Ewa was already being impacted by the construction.
If you are talking about 50 years ago, Mayor Frank Fasi was busy building TheBus line for Oahu, as he was creating the MTl, when HRT wasn't being a good partner with the government.
A rail system was always on the drawing board, but could never be secured as we went through various mayors and government leaders.
As I'm in my 60's, I'm well aware of the history of this project also.@@jasestrickland1704

What will be left of Oahu? Seriously! Buildings coming down, MOSTLY small businesses, for new large mainland stores, franchise fast food restaurants and more high rise apartment buildings. Is anyone in government thinking about traffic, losing space and most importantly losing the small unique businesses (many decades old.) and island that made Hawaii special?
I hope the other islands don't get greedy and ruin their unique island beauty and island life of quiet and peaceful and lush culture with less traffic compared to Oahu.
Hawaii is losing what made it special and unique. It's just L.A. with better weather.

One guy wrote on reddit how his tire was shredded because of pins or spikes sticking out from steel plates. I myself had my tire shredded in 2022 and just had another flat tire repaired this week from I'm sure that area. Laughable that HART only recently put signs after they claim recent feedback from businesses. This after they encountered the same slaughter of businesses on Kam and Farrington Hwys. Then Tyler says bill 40 will help the businesses that are still open but no can save the ones that closed or closing. He knows that the future TOD does not envision all these mom and pop business mixed in with the high priced condos planned by KSBE, which will probably donate heavily to him. Wonder if the unfortunate business owner remembered that Tyler was one of the first councilmember to ask and vote for the obscene 67% raise for themselves. Vote him out!!!
