Impressive. Takes me back to my Boy Scout days when we went camping on a VERY tight budget. I actually used an old shower curtain for shelter and a cleaned out dish soap bottle for a canteen. Our stove was an old #10 coffee can. They worked.

I learned a lot from this. Thanks man. when most people do vids like this, they don't show you every single step, so you miss out on a lot. Thanks for taking the time!
Once again, you did not fail to impress. I've often thought of a dollar store survivalist kit. You proved that you could definitely make it work in a pinch. The knots are what set you apart from the other RUclips survivalists. Keep up the great work, Homie!!
This is beyond great, to learn this! Your instruction pace is just perfect. It has to be extremely satisfying, to know that you could survive in an emergency situation. Thank you!

You are an excellent teacher. Wow! Wasn’t expecting that. Great patience and calm, clear and concise instruction. This is only my second video and I’m a fan.
So many vids talk about this or that item, and I like hearing what they have to say. I like how you demonstrate how the items work. I learned some useful things, much appreciated. Nice job!
I'm always very impressed when someone can take out of the ordinary items and use them for a second and even third purpose. Very inspiring, and thank you! I subscribed!
You sir taught me rope making out of all of the videos I've tried to follow this one is the simplest instructions another notch on the belt... Thank You
I've been an avid fan since 2020 when Covid started and the reason was because I got into EDC and BOB a few months before SHTF and then I stumbled upon your videos. It's now 2023 and I'm watching and rewatching your old videos to brush up on my bushcraft knowledge as well. Thank you for the inspiration and more power!!
I know I'm watching this 2 years after you've done this, but... FANTASTIC JOB! I would like to add an of OPs to this as well . The plastic bag that the Shower Liner came in can serve as a water container as well.
I really like how you PATIENTLY took the TIME to show us step by step how to make rope, shelter, tripod, etc. and didn't use much editing or anything, just SHOWED us in detail. Even when that one tripod branch broke you were like, "We can save this" - Just no worries. Be calm, patient, adapt, overcome. Love that. Thanks! I'm putting together a go bag of sorts and it's recommended to include cover... think I'll go get me a couple $1 shower curtains. Thanks!
1) this takes the term poor boy seriously. Thank you. 2) your presentation is clear and understandable, and useful. And this is actually quite rare. Many know but can’t teach. Well done.
That was kick ass video, awesome idea for the bleach droplets. I need to learn about knot tying but pictures/diagrams don't work. I need to friend like you to teach me. Take care and God Bless.
I've had one of those little knives for over two years now. Yes it's cheap, and the blade will swivel once you start to lean on it with a decent amount of pressure - SO BE MINDFUL - but...two years later and it's still in my pocket right now! I don't leave the house without it. I work (labour), for an excavation company, and that knife is great for sawing through roots in awkward places that you can't get at with a spade. It grinds through soil and rocks and anything else that is in the way, and it chews through roots 2 or 3 inches in diameter. It gets jobs done that I would not want to use a good knife on. Well worth a buck or two. In fact, grab a handful of them, for that price. Great video, Corporal!!
Collecting rain water with the shower curtain as it's set up in the video, tie half cone as shown in the video, about six to eight inches from the bottom in the middle of the INSIDE of the big sheet, pull it till gently until it forms a valley tie it to a stake, when it rains place a container at the bottom of the valley to catch the rain water.
Love the practical application of purchasing and setting up a cheap kit so we can all see real world what it could look like. Thanks for the great info. Particularly love how you demonstrate various basic knots and how to use them.
I wonder if my wife would mind if i practiced this with our shower curtain in the back yard.. Some how i think she wont be real happy with me. Even if i would explain why and where i seen it from.. But all in all its a nice shelter with materials he found.. How nice would that be if you had better stuff to work with. This one reason i like his video's. He shows you several things you can use . goes into detail so you can do it. Heck if you had to get outa dodge because poop hit the fan you could grab some items of your own from your place where you live and make a shelter with just the steps he shown us here. He is showing technics on how to build things . take that and go with it.
Good idea. But can you please explain how to read this kind of compass where you run the magnatic weight along a nail and uss it as a compass? I also have a regular compass but never understand 100% how to use it.
Awesome episode! Loved all the knots, and showing how the items can be used. Thanks for taking the time to make the shots just right so we can see what you were doing. Awesome!
This video is amazing proof that knowledge is more important than gear. It always amazes me to watch your videos and the amazing skill you have. Thank you Sir for this.

So sad. Homeless would not be good here at all. High today was 22 degrees. Warmed up to 24 this evening Supposed to snow or they are saying rain Really at 24 degrees??
One item that was overlooked from the dollar store that would come in handy oh so often. And of course, it involves another dollar. In the stationary section, there are metal file/paper clamps. This would be great for the shelter attachment to the ridgeline. Also, those folding knives, once the pin either breaks and or bends so the plastic handle breaks, take the blade and cut a slit into a hardwood branch for a handle and slip that blade into the slit. You can either do a twine wrap, cordage wrap, recycled wire wrap to hold the blade rigid. That makes the blade safer to use, less likely to break and get longer use out of it for your dollar. Which also brings me to one more item. (shouldn't we just go to an expenditure of $10?) In the spring and summer months of the dollar store, they sell gardening tools. Their little pruners are great as long as you do not cut too thick a branch with it. Their garden hand trowels/shovels are very handy. And their folding branch pruning saws, while not that strong, but handy, cheap and useful. Like for cutting that slit into the end of a branch for the knife blade or for cutting small wood for cooking fires. Their seeds are from american seed company and at the Dollar Tree are 4 pkts/dollar. And they started something new, they emblazon onto the package all the seeds that are heirloom variety. This means once you have settled down and need to grow food, you can do so and then let some of each kind "go to seed" to provide you with seed for next year's garden.
I have built kits for friends and for their college bound kids getting much of the basics including really good first aid kit items from the dollar store. Gauze, bandages, hypo allergenic tape, triple antibiotic, meds, cordage, and other items. Pack, survival tools, and other properly critical components I get from more reliable sources. But you can find nice aluminum bottles, nalgene like bottles, and as you mentioned all the items on your list. I didn't know about the seeds! Haven't seen them but will ask around. Gonna go look for that so thanks! Can buy lots of the items mentioned cheaply enough that I can use whatever budget they have on more important things. BTW the bandages, gauze, etc. are pretty decent quality. I do put brand name high quality items in as well just not as many. These are started kits and I always suggest taking what I put together and build on it. So far well received by the folks who ask. I don't sell them. Just charge for the amount spent. Items I buy in bulk I usually just throw in.
I am in Boy Scouts right now and the way we were taught to do a tripod lashing is different. Instead of wrapping around all three poles, I would wrap in the shape of a figure 8 on all three of the poles, but I still take all of the rest of the steps you used. If you have thicker diameter twine rope, it works extremely well. I know there are many ways to tie knots, so your method is as good as mine. Since I am in BS's I have learned a lot about making shelters and and cooking food, as well as starting fires with one match or Flint-n-steel. But I have just found your channel, so now this is one of my favorites, because I can look on your videos to find new ideas or learn new things. Just before this, I watched a couple of your dugout videos and they were great. I didn't know you could do all that with a small foldable shovel. You just got another Subscriber to your channel.
I'll have to see how much it weighs but it dawned on me that the shower curtain could make a very good potential groundcloth. I prefer to use a drinking straw for a eye dropper but love the idea you have also.
Everybody needs to be a boy scout, at least be a first class. The merit badges are fun, especially if they have to do with anything survival . If you can see the stars, you ain't lost, a compass helps too tho. I went to summer camp 4 years and we always went to the " pioneer area". We camped every chance we got. It's a learning experience for sure.
I'm a 10 yr alumni of Girl Scout Troop 11 in southern WV. We didn't screw around. Set up rough ground camps in January after 10 mile hikes into wilderness. "Pioneer area" lol.
Honestly, this is priceless. When I started waking up to the fact that the shtf at any given moment, I scrounged up what I could from what I had lying around. I had a job but most of that money went towards school supplies and helping my parents out (I was 13). So the dollar store became my go to place. Now ten years later, making decent money, I'm still paying for school supplies and helping my folks with bills (things don't suddenly change because you age sometimes) but I have enough when I save for nice gear. I'll tell you what though: fancy expensive gear ain't worth jack when you don't know how to use it. Knowledge is the one thing that will keep you alive. That and staying cool, calm, and collected. Those knots made this video pure gold brother. Thanks for the knowledge. Goes to show my point: knowledge is key. If you really had to, the cheap gear will save you. And even when it all fails, of you got the know how you can repurpose broke gear. Keep it up!
Learned so much in the Scouts , When I joined the Army my DI asked if I wanted his job ,as I was telling guys how to set-up properly .. Told me to let them fail so they would learn . Felt bad watching men packing what once was a 70 # pack that turned into 100+ # because it was soaked by stupidity. Knowledge is Power !
Corporal I own a Fly in Hunting and Fishing Lodge way up in Northern Canada, I been doing survival packs since I was a kid and still do to this day for my customers and myself, because I have had to put my plane down in the bush overnight many times mostly because of weather, Great ideas you have for people to get cheap survival items from the $ store, The only thing I would like to comment on is about those pack of lighters you got and are showing, The problem with those is they are hard to light and if it is a bit cooler out they dont light, plus I am a smoker for over 40 years now as well, those lighters are something I wouldn't recommend to get, because they dont work 75% of the time, You can get water proof matches at the $store or just buy a few Bic lighter they are a few bucks for a couple but are reliable and last a long time, or a Zippo lighter is the best water rain proof and wind proof, also the great thing about a Zippo is you can put any kind of fuel into them lantern oil you name it and they light, Thanks, Bear L.
I'm old school on the Zippo lighter as well. Problem is a new one now can cost up to as much as $40.00. I sent one in to Zippo for repair when I was aboard ship in 1980. Never got it back.
What is great about your videos is how they stand out wherein when anything is explained such as knots etc they are shown clearly and slowly on the video so that even a cave man can actually learn them
Mad props to showing you can take anything and make it work if need be. The other thing that I've noticed as how much more relaxed you seem in the newer video's. Outstanding videos and thank you for all you do.
I always look back at Corporal’s older videos, and I believe this one is probably one of the best videos you ever did! Some many informations packed in 25 mins. As always, thank you!
Great that you show that things do not always work out. Improvisation is key with the right knowledge. Good video and great shelter out of what seems to be junk but, turned out to be a great cover.
Thank you for taking the time to teach this. Some of us can only afford these items. And it was great to learn the basics. And I really need to learn how to tie knots. They are a very useful survival skill, clearly. Now I was wondering . this is the basic gear, what wud be the next investment level? Thanks.
Awesome and informative. Both my grandfathers were sailors so they made me learn knots... first time I’ve ever seen anyone else use them practically. Very nice. 👍
I've been rocking with dollar store parachord and tarp a couple nights a week all summer long with no complaints. It's been flying just a couple feet above my raised fire pit with no I'll effect. I'm starting to see that one of the grommets will fall out soon but that's no surprise. These with a five dollar stainless bottle from Giant Tiger a Buck 119 and fire steel from Amazon have been the core components of a highly enjoyable season. About 80 bucks well spent.
I dont buy super expensive preppers gear 2 because if u lose it or anything its a waiste of money good video finally someone who thinks for the regular working men that got mouths 2 feed and rent 2 pay and cant spend 300 on a knife or a backpack
Consider in lieu of an eyedropper, putting the sodium hypochlorite into the bottletop, then dipping your finger into the sodium hypochlorite and tapping your dipped finger to release one drop at a time. The final drop doesn't require tapping if the water bottle is reasonably full and your finger stretches down to the water level. It also serves to more thoroughly cleanse the fingertip and could be done with several fingertips in sequence, according to how many drops you need to add to the water.
This video is possibly the most informative and practical training video I have ever seen! If I only had this video to survive with I could do it! Great job thanks for posting such great content!
Bear proof compared to what? Trust me, a tent or tarp isn't going to protect you from a bear either. If you you're trusting those to deter bears or avoid encountering them do yourself a favor and stay in the city.
Thanks for the video, Corporal!. Being a Scotsman, I am all about the cheap. Me and my bro like to hike and hang hammocks in the mountains even in the sub zero weather. My bro buys all the latest hammock camping gear. I always do things on the cheap. His his setup looks pretty cozy, mine ruff but when I'm tucked in for the night, I'm quite warm and content.
This was very helpful. Seeing the practical application of knot tying etc to make camp makes it easier to learn and remember the different skills and their uses. Thanks.
Did i hear you say Corporal tunnel or carpal tunnel LOL. By the way something better than the shower curtain you found and mine is free and about twice as large. Go to a Mattress store and ask for the old Mattress plastic bags. Especially the Queen size box or mattress ones. Carefully lay it out and figure where the sides are and depending on if you want a really long piece or wide piece then once its flat. lay it out, then fold and press the air out and it will compress to a fairly small area. The plastic is fairly thick so it will last for a little while.
Hey thats ok all you have to do is go to a mattress firm or similar store and ask them if you can have a few of the used plastic bags from earlier deliveries. They will usually give you a few but some will point you to where they are in the back and you can pick and choose. They are great for a lot of uses to. so grab a few and if you need more go to the next store
I work in a furniture shop, we throw a dozen away each month. They'll happily hand them out, and now that you've mentioned it, I might nab a few for myself. The more expensive mattresses come in some pretty tough, thick bags, so grab one of those if possible.
I actually got that EXACT knife from a dollar tree as my very first pocket knife ever and years later i still have it im not some extreme outdoorsman but its still here working just as well as day one
In an apocalypse, I'm taking shelter at the dollar store. They have so much crap that could actually be really useful. Add that it is an existing structure, I'm sure I could find some way to secure it, and if you get a group of people you can increase survival chances.
Dakota Lally ...already picked out my spot...Food Lion 10 minutes away...along with a pizzeria, a Subway, 2 dollar stores, and a vape shop( no need to go without during the apocalypse)...they also carry 18650 batteries that are rechargeable(short 'em with steel wool...firestarter)...there's a nail salon there for those necessary mani-pedi sessions...comfort, food, fire...good shit!
WOW, there is a few near here, and got my BIKE, i am there with you, hope you have room and would allow me? just asking, and if i am there first, Howard is the name, bald and ugly, you cannot miss me, ill be the one wearing the SHADEs and wearing them in them inside.
I really enjoyed that . Love how you explained what you were doing & WHY. Im looking to teach my daughters ( & myself ) some skills to have under our belts in case SHTF. Thank you so much.
First thing first, sorry for my English. Second thing, i always thought the same. Third thing, at last i found a survivalist with brain and the skill of improvisation. BUT most important thing, all those items can be a survival kit overseas. that is an aspect other survivalist forget. You can find these in every hypermarket, supermarket ....something market. Other aspect, i will not limit at those 5 dollars, but nor a lot of money either because i found a good folding knife with aluminum handle at 6 dollars in a supermarket. Last thing, a transparent shower curtain and a windproof lighter with piezoelectric firing, i`ll thought are better.
Never say sorry for your English. Whenever I see someone write or hear them speak in English and it isn't perfect, I remind myself what that likely means - they know more languages than myself and can communicate with more people! Good on you. Hope it isn't too late for me to pick up at least a second language...
If it's a regular lighter, you can still use the spark to light a fire after the fuel runs out. If you use piezoelectric lighters, you don't get the same benefit.

Tying knots is an under estimated aspect of survival. Just an opinion. You're like the Yoda of knot tying.
Knot tying is an absolutely essential survival skill. That said; learn the Taught-Line knot for your ridgeline.
A clove hitch, bowline and bowline on a byte are 3 good knots that you can untie after you have tension on them which is important if you are planning on reusing your rope. Some knots cinch so tight , you cant untie them. I've seen knots cut rope from cinching too tight.
Bryan Baker as a wise man once told me "i don't know if all boy scouts are gay as thay could probably tie the knot in like 50 different ways"
Bryan Baker because hes a marine my dad was a marine and he can tie a not super fast
Yea id say bo burnham is a wise man
You are an excellent teacher.
This was the absolute best and practical use of dollar store items. I feel smarter after watching this haha
Twine sure can do a whole lot! That dropper was brilliant
@@TBLUNTZ420Does that make you a jute hater? lol
I'm going to the dollar store lol
A shoe/bootlace does a good job too 👍👌
I really like how you PATIENTLY took the TIME to show us step by step how to make rope, shelter, tripod, etc. and didn't use much editing or anything, just SHOWED us in detail.
Well done.
Outstanding AF as always Corporal, fresh perspective on common items and creative ways to use them. thanks again
I've knew about most of these "tricks" but the bottle hanger was pure genius. Another keeper. Well done corporal, you deserve a promotion.
He is showing technics on how to build things . take that and go with it.
sometimes the weights inside shower curtains are magnetic. you can run this magnet along a nail, float that nail on water and make a compass
mi pi wow, good idea 🙄
I'll remember that in case I ever get lost in my bathroom. I'll also have to remember to always carry a nail that floats, though.
Good idea. But can you please explain how to read this kind of compass where you run the magnatic weight along a nail and uss it as a compass? I also have a regular compass but never understand 100% how to use it.
@@greenman1411 Or..you can put the nail on a leaf😊
@@greenman1411 lay it on a floating leaf , bonehead ..
Just saw this. Really Liked how he showed stuff. slowly. thank you.
very detailed and clear. great ideals , I am 2 months from 80 and learned a lot. T. Wright..
DUDE!!!! You just got yourself a fan! Great info, well presented, and you don't take for granted that your viewer has any sort of prior knowledge.
We need more people like you that invest your time teaching others all of these things. You are a special person. Thank you for your tips. Anyone that gives you a thumb down needs to take their time and do a video.
if i ever become homeless this video set me up for success
Kyle Gross I'm going homeless. I got laid off work so I lost my apartment

You just gave me a great idea on how to help the homeless on a shoestring budget (pun intended :)
@@34sreactandreview35 Good challenge, huh? Get the kids excited for the adventure!!!
So sad. Homeless would not be good here at all. High today was 22 degrees. Warmed up to 24 this evening Supposed to snow or they are saying rain Really at 24 degrees??
Thanks! Good to know. Lint from dryer is good to start a fire. Tying knots is a good thing to know.
If you are going to do seeds, get some that you can harvest in 2-3 weeks as opposed to a few months.
That's awesome
O
Very good.
This is extremely practical. You got the stuff and broke is down perfectly so that anyone could do the same.
I appreciate it!
I got so much more out of this than I was expecting. Thank you brother.
Keep it up!
M Morales yeeeesh 🤐
Learned so much in the Scouts , When I joined the Army my DI asked if I wanted his job ,as I was telling guys how to set-up properly .. Told me to let them fail so they would learn . Felt bad watching men packing what once was a 70 # pack that turned into 100+ # because it was soaked by stupidity. Knowledge is Power !
Further proof that the more you know, the less you need. You are succinct and spot on. I Love this Channel!

Very impressed. You compensated for crappy gear with skill. Good job!
This video gets better and better as I keep watching. I learned a lot more than I BARGAINED for.
I watched a lot of survival Videos, but you sir really know what to do.
Been trying to learn those knots for a long time. You are the first person to do them where I could actually see what you are doing. Thank you.
Corporal I own a Fly in Hunting and Fishing Lodge way up in Northern Canada, I been doing survival packs since I was a kid and still do to this day for my customers and myself, because I have had to put my plane down in the bush overnight many times mostly because of weather, Great ideas you have for people to get cheap survival items from the $ store, The only thing I would like to comment on is about those pack of lighters you got and are showing, The problem with those is they are hard to light and if it is a bit cooler out they dont light, plus I am a smoker for over 40 years now as well, those lighters are something I wouldn't recommend to get, because they dont work 75% of the time, You can get water proof matches at the $store or just buy a few Bic lighter they are a few bucks for a couple but are reliable and last a long time, or a Zippo lighter is the best water rain proof and wind proof, also the great thing about a Zippo is you can put any kind of fuel into them lantern oil you name it and they light, Thanks,
Bear L.
Bic lighters are better than dollar store lighters?
I'm old school on the Zippo lighter as well. Problem is a new one now can cost up to as much as $40.00. I sent one in to Zippo for repair when I was aboard ship in 1980. Never got it back.
clippers are best. they last forever, carry lots of gas and have the pokey bit for the end of your joint
@@drspastic and you can put a D-ring into the top bit as well
The lighters he shows also explode in a vehicle on a hot 100+ degree F day. I lost a few before I figured out what was going on.
What is great about your videos is how they stand out wherein when anything is explained such as knots etc they are shown clearly and slowly on the video so that even a cave man can actually learn them
Better than SERE school instruction. Appreciated the video on knots too. Nice and slow and clear. Outstanding. Semper Fi
Mad props to showing you can take anything and make it work if need be. The other thing that I've noticed as how much more relaxed you seem in the newer video's. Outstanding videos and thank you for all you do.
Well done Corporal, So says Gunny!
Nice job on the flow and the direct simple application of the gear.
I always look back at Corporal’s older videos, and I believe this one is probably one of the best videos you ever did! Some many informations packed in 25 mins. As always, thank you!
Lot's of info in this video, thanks learned a lot especially about the knots.
Am really sorry to do this to the bro but everytime i see a knife i see my dick getting cut off.sorry i fail my bro
Thx corporal! Daughter of a navy vet here and yep.. Dad gave me a knot book! Of course. Very valuable sir! Thx!! Prepped girl in Minneapolis!!
great video. youre a great teacher. keep up the good work
Great that you show that things do not always work out. Improvisation is key with the right knowledge. Good video and great shelter out of what seems to be junk but, turned out to be a great cover.
Love this. I am a stay at home mom and going to start prepping. This is a great beginner video for survival. Thank you!
Thank you. You’ve given me hope and ease assurance in knowing the unknown of rich possibilities for keeping my family safe if ever needed.
Thank you for taking the time to teach this. Some of us can only afford these items. And it was great to learn the basics. And I really need to learn how to tie knots. They are a very useful survival skill, clearly. Now I was wondering . this is the basic gear, what wud be the next investment level? Thanks.
FOOD!
Stay out of the woods.
betford2 lol
Consider in lieu of an eyedropper, putting the sodium hypochlorite into the bottletop, then dipping your finger into the sodium hypochlorite and tapping your dipped finger to release one drop at a time. The final drop doesn't require tapping if the water bottle is reasonably full and your finger stretches down to the water level. It also serves to more thoroughly cleanse the fingertip and could be done with several fingertips in sequence, according to how many drops you need to add to the water.
Yep, always more than one way to skin a cat Buddy. Great idea.
I AM TRULY AMAZED AT HOW U MAKE THINGS SO MUCH EASIER, QUICKER AND EFFECTIVE!!
THANKS FOR THESE TIPS....
that twine has loads of uses. good find, especially 3 in a pack!
This video is possibly the most informative and practical training video I have ever seen! If I only had this video to survive with I could do it! Great job thanks for posting such great content!
I liked the shower curtain liner as a cover idea. It's outside the box. Good stuff!
But is it bear proof? To be determined...
This setup is useless and requires a lot of manual dexterity with your fingers. Try doing anything like this when you are cold and wet.
good fuel and smoke producer for signalling search parties also.
Bear proof compared to what? Trust me, a tent or tarp isn't going to protect you from a bear either. If you you're trusting those to deter bears or avoid encountering them do yourself a favor and stay in the city.
would be a good waterproof liner for a debris shelter or a lean to. So cheap that if you forgot to recover it it wouldn't matter much.
Thank you for these very straightforward, easy to digest videos.
You are a very good teacher. Thank you . I learned so much.
Thank you for this very clear and informative video! I could understand your instructions and feel like I could recreate them if necessary!
Loved your video. Don’t know if I can remember the knots, but, I got the just of it. I would like to see some more.
Great video. And thanks for the practical application, vary helpful for those of us how are a bit new to this...
Sam Brandt arg!!! I just threw mine out!
Yes Sir ! Mattresses bags are hughe and made out of thick polyethilene . You nailed it !
That is a great idea Sam.
Dakota Lally >implying looters haven't already picked it clean
Dakota Lally ...already picked out my spot...Food Lion 10 minutes away...along with a pizzeria, a Subway, 2 dollar stores, and a vape shop( no need to go without during the apocalypse)...they also carry 18650 batteries that are rechargeable(short 'em with steel wool...firestarter)...there's a nail salon there for those necessary mani-pedi sessions...comfort, food, fire...good shit!

Always learn from the best! Thanks Corporal for all you do and have done.
Gigi Gogu +++ work on the English!!
@@geraldnelson2234 How many languages do you speak or write in? Shutup asshole
Thanks for sharing your skills and knowlege. Your a natural teacher and did a great job showing each step.
I found this very valuable info. Do you have videos on more types of knots and when to use them?
