He could walk in those days. The clips I’ve seen of him-- all hysterical- were from his latter days, when he was hobbled. He did his whole act sitting down, but was like a monarch, of quick-witted, dirty mouth variety.
This show was a “puff piece” of self promotion. My father Freddie Sales was headlining in the Casino de Paris show at the Dunes opposite the then MGM Grand. The show was a one off and as I recall most of the tickets were free. Bernard alienated much of the audience by referring to many of the GIs who had been stationed in England during WWII. “They loved our old ruins so much, they married them”. Mr.Congenitally.
I was at the Las Vegas show. On the original video I found a much younger/thinner me on camera a few times. Any idea where I can obtain a copy of the full video for my private viewing?
There was a full version which lasted around 45 mins but it was taken down! gutted...
