Cory was a beautiful person and so much more than someone’s boyfriend. It’s a shame that people still feel the need to make his life (and death) all about a girl he dated for only a year and a half. Also, this title is disrespectful. There’s no Glee Curse.
True, but she still gets the same treatment. The other day was her son's birthday and people were still bringing up Cory on her post about her son with another man.
@@andym2801 Yeah, but a lot of that is because she was so public about him after his death. She never denied the false rumors that they were engaged and released multiple songs about him, talked about him all the time in interviews promoting her music... even after she publicly started dating again. She still posts about him on the anniversary of his death every year and while that’s absolutely her right, it doesn’t help to calm the parasocial obsession people have with their relationship. I imagine she’s in a weird place because she still wants to honor him but the fans can get pretty out of line and they don’t hesitate to let her know that they’d rather see her with Cory than her own husband. If you compare the likes on her recent tribute post to Cory to the likes she gets on every other picture she posts the difference is pretty crazy. I do think she has every right to post about him every year but the truth is she has done a lot in the past to fuel the parasocial relationship Glee fans have with her and Cory. It’s not something that happened overnight and the obsession grew stronger after he died. The tragic star-crossed lovers narrative is certainly very attractive to people and I’m not gonna lie, whether intentionally or not, I think Lea leaned into it.
@@goldrush18x I do not agree she was SO public about him after his death. She spoke a few times and only one big interviews (Ellen). Other publications would just reuse, rehash her quotes for articles. Even in interviews about the album, it was minimal, and many outlets were told not to ask about him at all. And she never performed the songs written about him, Cannonball was written before his death and was about Lea's journey after his death, not Cory at all. For years, she didn't do anything but post on July 13. So no I do not think Lea leaned in to it, if she leaned into she had sung If you say so or actually say his name which she didn't do for years. If she leaned into it she would not have pushed the album's released date back, if she leaned into it she would have address the engaged rumor or them living together rumor. The weird part is the people who would have been invested are now adults, so it is creepy.
@@andym2801You’re clearly a big enough Lea fan to know the names of her songs so with all due respect I don’t really care about your opinion. She was very public about him after his death and didn’t deny the engagement rumors. That further fueled the parasocial obsession Glee fans have with their relationship. By not shooting down the engagement rumor she was allowing it to become something bigger and more dramatic than it was. Period.
@@goldrush18x Sorry that is BS. So since I was a fan and know what was going around you do not care what an odd take She would have had to talk way more about him, she spent time shooting down dumb rumors. There were rumor they had broken up, rumors they lived together, rumors they were getting ready to live together, rumors they were getting married in 2 weeks, rumors he was going to ask her to marry her on her bday n August etc. I disagree besides the Teen Choice Awards, the Ellen show and a few spread out print articles she spoke very little about him. Now the press rehashed her quotes over and over again. Don't blame her for the press she even had her team not allow questions about him. So stop blaming her for how the press and fans treat him.
Cory was good on Monte Carlo film and McCanick but he did say on an interview he wanted to go into directing and if he was still here I think he would have done that successfully
You guys are really having fun now with journalism. Good for you. So cool. You're going to win an Emmy for these mini docs you're doing.
