I'm literally watching this video again for the 1,287,597th time. Not because I've forgotten anything. But solely because Shug is so fun to watch. Like seriously my dude. You are awesome and I hope you never forget it!
Thankee TRUTH.
Your channel is so refreshing. Every other camping channel is filled with ego and very little actual camping info. You go into great detail and cover more than enough stuff in one video. We are blessed to have you. Thanks for everything, shug! I’ve learned so much watching your channel
Thanks for the good words....Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Who would have thought that learning about tarp set ups and hammocks could be so entertaining... Ground dweller convert. Thanks for an entertaining informative show Shug.
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Disabled to discourage the Shug haters... how many could there be??? You were the reason I now sit in the woods for hours at a time. You showed me how. I think anyone who watches your vids find then informative and very entertaining. I for one appreciate the effort that goes into making these and the dedication to share your enjoyment most don't have.
Oh ....there are some. Glad these got you to the woods...that is my reward.
Hi Shug I"m a single mom with a disabled son and i am getting our hammok set started. we have 2 hammoks and 2 tarps ordered and on there way. you inspired us. we are noobs at this. lol we have been watching your vidos. we love ya. thank you. keep the vids coming.
Fantastic and Whoooooo Buddies))))
These 10 videos are a must to watch. Very very informative with tons of tips and tricks for comfortable tarp use. All you need to know about tarps......Thanks Shug
Shug, I just want to say thank you for all of the time and effort that you put into these videos. After 30 years of sleeping..., or rather..., not sleeping, on the ground, and after trying countless pads. mats and pillows, I'm going to try hammock camping. I discovered your videos and they have been helpful and entertaining. Thank you.
JustinHEMI05 It is my pleasure for sure...glad they were of value.
you are hilarious. i actually used to be a member of a circus as well, your antics make me miss the old days. my circus drifted apart a few years back, best days of my life when we were together! you remind me of my buddy, our barker. great guy!
You show me so many things that I need to know in a most entertaining fashion! Thank you.
You never fail to leave a smile on my face, greatly appreciate ya!
Mucho Appreciato~~
Most excellent ... as always ... Shugrow ... glad you're prepping for an adventure in the woods too! Good info and chuckles on the side!
I am...I am. A solo will do me good. Though a friend want to come.
"Cops are coming" great stuff!!!!
Thanks again.....
I may just hang in the garden tonight from my TDS....
Dude , I just found your videos , you're hallarious ! I learn and laugh , I wish school would've been this fun ! Keep up the great work , love it !
Thankee feller. Hope they give y' some tarp options.
I love watching your videos because I learn a ton and you crack me up! Keep doing what you're doing!
So I shall.
You're the man...living in Bonnie Scotland and after watching you....the tent is getting ditched!!!
Keep them coming buddy....class
Cheers and haggis)))) Whooooo Buddy.
best camping vids on them there interwebses.....
I am bowing here deeply and graciously.
So true learned so much from him I'm a beginner hammock camper.
I've learned just about everything I know about hammocking from Shug.
I just wanted to say I have been a tent camper for years and watching all of your videos inspired me to cross over to the other side and have to say I do not think I will ever look back.
+Michael Parks Whooooooo Buddy)))))
it is a crime you dont have more subscribers. you are funny and bring and share good information. tip of the hat-- and much respect Shug
Thankee. My subbers has been growing sreadily. I am cool with it. Not so big I can't answer everyone at this point.
Bradley Campbell plus I like how Shug NEVER asks for you to subscribe or like his stuff. his how to videos and gear reviews get most of the views, but his trail reports are my favorite.
I have seen a sharp increase in his subscribers just in the past couple of years. his subscribers also view most of his videos (very loyal viewers).
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos! They are very helpful and entertaining!
joyceracing99 Y'elcome.
I love your videos. Im new to hammock camping. Thanks to you I decided to go with a warbonnett blackbird with a superfly tarp. I enjoy the randomness of being thrown into the air and your comedy. Im subscribed. Keep up the good work!
You got a great combo with the Warbonnet gear.
Classic Shug! I missed ya buddy (model airplanes ain't my thing, too many taxes to afford such up here in Canada lol). Love the shock cord mod, so simple with a couple of clove hitches. You're the marlin spike maniac, another great idea for the stake outs. Looking forward to part II!
hey shug in my opinion you are a truly a blessed and talented man and no I'm not taking from you're heart ache in life your filming abilities top notch just fun to watch with your backpacking videos I've tried to learn as much as possible from them so thank you sean emery thank you
Y'elcome....and thanks.
I know where I'll be coming to learns about tom-TARP-ery! You are funny and I laughed my coffee out my nose whilst re-searchin' tarp set ups. who knew that was even possible? subscribed. thanks.
Whooooo Buddy))) and thankee.
Hey Shug, thanks for the video. The knot you used on the shock cord tensioner is called a clove hitch.
The president of our corporation asked me how everything was going the other day, and I told him everything was ok in sector 7. He gave me the strangest look. Another good one Shug.
carpetace56 Funny!
RUclips unsubbed me from your channel...all these months I thought you had run off! I been waitin' and waitin' for another Shug video and they just never came! Now I know why.
Now I will watch them all, your the most entertaining man on the Tubes
RaggedRecklessandRestless YT has been cantankerous. Glad your back.
***** Glad to be back!
So happy to see this video. Awesome as always. Extremely informative. Thank you.
Whooooo Buddy))))
Been doing the hammock camping this year on my moto trips. I think I am down right addicted!!! Thought I would thank ya for your videos again... as I watch a few of them over again. haha I always seem to learn something even the second time through. I have been also thinking of making a tarp of my own ... to try and get the exact size and shape I want ... and maybe save some money to fuel my bike and belly on more adventures. hehe
+TWiGs ADV (Chris) Yessir....and Whoooooo Buddy ride on.
Tarp info.....www.teamgunnparker.com/blackcat_tarp/Black_Cat_Tarp.htm#_Toc173479851
Thanks for the link!
Luv that knot used to tie the guy lines down to the peg, heading off to the British countryside this weekend for my first ever solo overnighter so will definitely use that one ....to thank you I will hand over my first born ...when I have one ~Peace~
That shock cord tip is pure genius! Looks like I need to get back on the forums. Thanks for sharing Shug! -Woody
Whooooooo Buddy!
Decided to add some tensioners to my side tieouts and this video did the trick. Thank you sir!
I always use mine. Some say not needed but I find they work for me.
You are ever improving in both your nonsense and your no nonsense! Thoroughly enjoyed learning about tarps and I felt like a toddler again when you threw us up in the air.
Thanks for that. I love the camera toss.
Those loop knots in the guy lines are clove hitches, one of my most very knots to tarp with.
Good to see ya fella looking forward to more tarp use review and a trip report.
Beas
Yessir...that I know but did not say. I also call that a butterfly hitch.
forums are the best for finding out detailed information about anything. in the forums you will find passionate experts that will happily tell you every minute detail about the subject at hand. excellent resource. information that you cannot find anywhere outside of an expensive hands on seminar that would cost you a load of money. that you can find for free on the internet.
Thanks for the vid from sector 7. FYI - I don't care if you disable ratings, I will like this video anyways... :-P
Truth for sure. Folks want to talk about it on forums.
This has got to be your second best info. video ever............
I love second best!
You being left handed makes a lot of sense. Every lefty I know, myself included, tend to be a bit off-kilter. Which, just makes life more fun, in my opinion. Anyhoo, your video was as entertaining and informative as ever. I love that you talk about things that most people are too scared to mention. Really helps the people that are learning the ropes of camping and hiking.
Halfsquatch This ol' lefty says thankee. Whoooooo Buddy))))
Great vid Shug as always. your Hammock trip videos have inspired me to give it a try. Im an experienced backpacker but always a ground tent sleeper. I've never tried a hammock because im very much a side sleeper and thought i couldn't sleep on my side in one. I have just bought my first Hammock and going out to use it on an overnighter this Friday. I guess your supposed to sleep at an angle to lay kinda flat. Wish me luck. Thanx again.
Yep...an angle is the way to go. I did a whole series on hammocks...ruclips.net/p/PLB8752777861C2AA8
Carry forth and good luck.
Great vid. Looking forward to more, Sug. I'm taking my Blackbird to Wisconsin this weekend!
Hope it all works out well for you.
Great video!! A ton of useful information that I will implementing very soon. Thanks for sharing.
I worked at a bait and tackle shop as a teen and one of my duties was boiling peanuts out behind the store. We had a couple of big propane turkey fryers. Boil 'em until they were soft, turn off the heat, stir in a bunch of salt, and let them soak a while. Then you bag them suckers up and watch them fly off the counter!!! Woooooo!
U sir are a riot....love ur videos and come to play hockey in Stillwater and Woodbury Minnesota from Ottawa each winter with the grandkids...seriously great info and will continue researching as never too late to learn...and the more I learn the less I realize I know.....thank you.
Whoooooooo Buddy))))))
The boiled peanuts may have been the best part of that video. Although I did get a lot of the guy line do-dads. Thanks for posting!
slanting the tarp in porch mode...so easy and so smart!!! mental note "do it next time" :) million thanks Shug
It is simple and works well. No water bubble in the morn'
I was dubious at first but very impressed and also entertained! Very helpful stuff here looking forward to your other videos.
mercuryhaute Thankee. Nobody uses the word duboius enough.....
Haha... I caught myself smiling and laughing during the whole dang video! Thank you Sir!
Whoooo Buddy!
Great video Shug! "Enjoy the Silence" in Deporche mode.
Haaaa.....for sure.
lol good one
Great tarp you made yourself Shug, very informative .
Woow budy ;) From Scotland
is it just me or is shug the man!
Just you!
he's cool and has good information thanks shug
This thou!
most informative backpacking channel I've ever came across !! Never get tired of watching !!!
It is most certainly NOT just you good sir. Cheerio.
8:17 "I gotta hurry the cops are coming". I spilled my coffee laughing. SHUG YOU OWE ME COFFEE.
Lee M. I hate a loss of good coffee.......haaaa.
Superb presentation Shug.....
Great info plus a massive dose of humour, that's what makes a watchable video :D
Thanks for being you, and giving us the dope in a way it's easily understood, but with plenty of credibility lurking behind the piss taking.
Subscribed, and if you're ever in England, message me and we'll put you up and show you around :)
Tarpology 101! Great job as always. Make me wanna get deep in the woods in the Gorge or Wilson's area :) Just waiting on cooler weather.
I can't wait to go myself......carry forth.
Got out with my dad for our first winter hang, you’re spot on about learning from mistakes. It was magical but I have to take some of your advice n get warm before bed. If you have time to see my latest video I overheated(I think) and my tarp stretched over night so ended up with butt to snow, cold but so peaceful. My UQ stayed nice n dry but my hammock, TQ and myself were soaked/iced! Practice practice practice. Thank you for all the inspiration Shug, all secure
Ahhh....your underquilt protector was between your hammock and UQ and created a vapor barrier thus all the condensation on your hammock. Looks like you had 2 underquilt protectors. Lose one of them and use it on the outside of everything. Ya'll ate well for sure. Looked good.
@@shugemery I can’t tell you how cool it is to talk with you. I guess I oughta not get too warm so I don’t produce lots of vapour on the first place? It’s a hard life bein a shweaty guy! Thanks for all the help Shug I hope you’re doin well.
It is fun practice all the same. Love that you can camp with your Pop.
Looks like I have got some line tensioners in my future. Like it.
I see them....I see them.....
The tarp I got with my H.H. Explorer Ultralite is a Hex Rainfly at 144"x120"wide. I've yet to set it up, as my hammock comes in today. YippEEE! Cain't WAIT to set er up and try er out this evening. I highly doubt it comes with anything other than stock stuff. But I'll DEFINITELY have to get me some shock cord. Thanks for the tip theya bub. I hope you have a ball on your trip. I'mma bout to leave out for the A.T. for my first time. Gonna head up to Harper's Ferry from Springer Mtn. MAN I can't WAIT! I've thoroughly enjoyed your vids brother. I hope to catch at least SOME vids on the trail (on the "smart" phone).
Whooooo Buddy)))).....enjoy that time big time.
you have shown me so much can't wait till I get to go out
Get on out there quick as you can then~~~
Awesome tarp tensioners. Definitely got to make some when I get my new tarp.
I like mine. Whooooo Buddy))))
@@shugemery It's refreshing that it's something I can add to my wish list that _doesn't_ have an enormous price tag. Thanks for all the advice you give.
Video had everting laddie. U tossed me up into the sky 😲😆, the shout out 4 "nappage"😴& boiled goobers.😍
Man the goofyness makes these videos! I’m they wouldn’t be the same! Love your videos shug!
Goofy! That is me at my most serious~~~~
Haaaaaaa.
Thankee.
Thank you Shug for being so helpful.
It is my calling card. Plus I needed tarp-time.
cant wait for the rest of the series and the upcoming trip report.
Thanks. Uploading part 2 right now.
Just moved on from my hennessy to a blackbird xlc and yeti underquilt. Love it so far. Question on the tarp. I typically have my suspension for the hammock above my head (when standing) on the foot end and at about my neck or so on my head end. When tying out my tarp I typically match the foot end on the tree and go lower than the suspension on the head end to keep the tarp closer to the ridgeline of the hammock. It looks as if on this video you have the ends of the tarp connected to the hammock ridgeline and then to the tree from there? Hope this makes sense. Is this to keep it connected on the ridgeline?
I go tree to tree with my tarp.
Another god vid shug, keep em coming buddy
You had me at porch mode : )
I got lazy on my last trip. I didn't rig my tarp at all. last minute I just flopped it over my ridgeline. No airflow, but still slept soundly. 9 hours : )
Mighty swell series! All secure in sector 7
I love the flop tarp...done it myself!
Thank you Professor Shug, Tarpologist extraordinaire!
Whooooo Buddy))))
Actually I've tarp camped a good bit, still good to see a basics vid....reminds me of all i've definitely forgot that the tarp can do...my thanks Mr. E
Tarp on feller....
Awesome setup!
Have I mentioned you are like the Robin Williams of hammock camping videos? ;-)
I yam what I ham....
came here to leave this comment.. 6 years too late.
I know im asking the wrong place but does someone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly lost my password. I love any help you can offer me.
@Merrick Gustavo Instablaster =)
@Clark Kalel thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now.
Takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
"The cops are coming!" LOL. Always enjoy the vids Shug.
FBI showed up too!
Thanks for the camp-related vid, Shug! I was startin' to go through withdraws. Just bit the bullet and picked me up a HG Cuben Fiber tarp just in time for a backpacking trip through Joshua Tree National Forrest (got a nice hang between a couple boulders). But wouldn't ya know it; the weather was so nice, I didn't get to use it. Actually kinda bummed about that. Enjoy your trip to the undisclosed location!
I just film whatever I am into at the time. I too am/was having withdrawals!
Great tarp those...
Good video. I like the shock cord tensioner idea.
I never go without them!
ROFLMBO!!! Tumblehome featured your "all secure..." shtick in one of his videos and now I know why. OMFG!
I like your style.
Whoooooo Buddy))))))
Another awesome vid Shug! I really enjoy my wasted time watchin you :-) When can we expect number 2?
Just getting into hammock camping your vid are very helpful thanks keep doing you stay safe
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
Pharaoh of failure? Tsar of Tarps more like. Great video Shug. I look forward to the follow up tutorials.
I love that.......Thankee.

Yes...oh yes you do.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge Shug!
Bill Barnhart Y'elcome and thanks.
Thanks for the videos! Very helpful and educational!

Yeah......I do too. I just film what I am doing at the time I am doing what I am doing.
Thanks Shug , I’ve learned a lot from your videos
Good to hear that...carry forth.
Once again... another great video! Thanks Shug
Whoooo Buddy!
great video looking forward to the place your going to but won't tell really like all your vids
+Amra Survival I thank ya'
Boiled peanuts, yum. Thanks for another excellent video Shug.
Oh you betcha.
Your personality on video is amazing!!! Hope it's the same in person which I'm sure it is :) subbed!!!
Oh and... learning lots to as I've just started hammocking!
Whooooo Buddy)))) I think I am pretty much the same in person. Unless I am sleeping.
awesome info shug,and always entertaining..
..bill
Whoooo Buddy!
Very cool.
Thanks for the video.. I enjoyed watching it.
Thankeeeee
Great vid thanks Shug. Funny and informative, just what the doctor ordered.
Good old Dr. Tarpmiester.Thankee
Cheers for the videos ! All the best
Whoooooo Buddy))))
Brilliant, as usual. I laughed when you said about learning from your own mistakes. Everybody says "you don't need toggles for marlin spike hitch, just find little stick". Usually it works but today I've landed twice on my bottox because makeshift toggles were to soft. :-)
Haaa...my condolences to your buttocks. Toggles can make or break.
***** Yeah. But new lesson learn that it's good to have some soft moss under your hammock. Just in case.
Hey Cuz....I enjoyed this video....we love them boiled peanuts down here in the panhandle of Florida.
They are quite misunderstood here in Minnesota. Boil my from time to time.
knot knowledge...so good...really great video
Thank you.
Love your videos! Never bored, always a laught and some "learnin" too. What a deal, It's worth a lot more than I paid! Thank you!
The price is right! Thankee...
Really like the shock cord idea! Would you suggest that on all 4 corners or just the 2 longer front ones? Thanks!
Thanks very informative. love these videos.
Y'elcome and thanks.
Oh yeah, he's back!
Hey....I never left! Whooooo Buddy))))
Cool video Shug! Thanks.
You too....thankee.
Thanks, Shug. Good one.
Yoo-Hoo, a quintessential "Southern" drink made in New Jersey!
I know...that is too funny!
Really nice demo on the tensioner part. For some reason I always seem to rush my tarp setup and it gets sloppy. Maybe some pre-tied loops in the lines would help. Thank ya for posting.
Some loops in the line are handy. I still do it on some lines.
Shug yee forgot ta mention the ol 10-dollar-gullywasher-dryfly wallyworld carries!!! Love your videos buddy !
They will do a feller just fine. Thankee.
Thanks for the demonstration of tarp modes, and that "I gotta hurry, cops are coming" made me laugh :D
😊
Love seeing more Shug vids!
Whoooo Buddy!
I wish I could post a picture of the shock cords I just installed on my tarp! Thank you for the tip!
Whoooooo Buddy)))))
