    In my digging, "Dutch Gables" are Baroque style gables with decorative ends (common through The Netherlands, Belgium, etc). Dutch Hipped on the other hand, is merging a gable roof (for increased attic space) and hipped roof (for larger rain shadow to protect foundations, and increased shade - both of which highly desirable in sunnier climates). So it makes sense why it's not a common Dutch architectural element, but it is popular throughout the Mediterranean, Caribbean and west indies, and nowadays in Australasia (can vouch for that) and the south US. I suspect it's the "west indies" part of that distribution that gave it the name Dutch, but I couldn't find anything to confirm that.

      as far as I can tell the design came to america from european traders, possibly from the netherlands. could just be the association of trading and the dutch that brought about the name.

      A lot of farms have that kind of roof in the north of the Netherlands. Not sure if it references that though.

    Silvarret your Parkitect series is amazing, even on my third play through. I really enjoy your commentary, both of what you are doing, your interesting facts and history, and your detailed coaster explanations. The tutorials you provide in each video are so great. I just love that you’re sticking with the vanilla game and proving what can be done with a beautifully designed game (no shade intended to the mod creators/users out there). I hope you’re proud of all the hard work you’ve put in to help design this game. Looking forward to more... “to be honest”. 😁

    Have to agree that some of the coasters in previous scenarios seemed (really) slow, but that might just be that people (myself included) are used to the speed of them in RCT and other games. As long as you are sure they go at good speeds for Parkitect you wont hear me complaining.

    In response to your coaster speed musings Silvarret; I find that Parkitect seems to be a bit "floaty" with its coaster speeds (i.e. they seem slower than they are) which is part of the charm and aesthetic. It allows you to appreciate what you build without a coaster train rocketing through breaking the serenity.

    Super fun video as always! I beat this one with a wild mouse, a junior coaster, a second steel coaster, and tons upon tons of flat rides. Oh, also, four separate food courts, one on each side of the island, so the guests would stop complaining about food.
    It took me a while to get the 5K profit, but it eventually happened while I was AFK lol.

  • @LaidbackLuc9
    @LaidbackLuc9 5 лет назад +1

    Great video. With regard to your comment on 'more intense' family-coasters, I believe coasters can get away with a higher lifthill or launch, as they generally are smoother than their predecessors 20 years ago.

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  5 лет назад +1

      That's a fair point. I also think that, as the public rides roller coasters, their resistance to G-forces builds up. That's certainly something I experienced when I got over my fear three years ago.

    • @LaidbackLuc9
      @LaidbackLuc9 5 лет назад +1

      @@Silvarret You're spot on. As the rollercoaster community matures and is willing to travel for top rides, I think amusement parks have become more international and shy away from rides that are middle-of-the-road and fair-like. On top of that, lap bars and general restraints improved, which is why coasters with higher G-forces (as you mention) are now more accessible for the public. I still remember the days when I was scared of 'El Condor' or 'Python'. But both are/were just quite uncomfortable experiences.

    I love the speed of the rides. One of a few things I don't like about rollercoaster tycoon is just how fast everyone marches around, and how fast rides go. but i guess they needed to do that, becuse people spend literally days at a real park, vs the 3 hours you play and have to cram 3 years into that.
    Also, I can't believe rides like Cheetah hunt are family coasters. I struggle even with kiddie coasters :/

    Random thing, but I really like the Orbiter queue. I'm guilty of mostly using flat or the symmetrically split roofs for mine. The asymmetry really works, especially with these angled beams. Gotta try it sometime with a more modern/sci-fi glass roof or something.
    Also - not sure how would you rate the scenario after actually finishing it, but the requirements were a bit misleading, I'd say? Didn't feel it was that bad to me - Adventure Island, Archipelago Adventures or the upcoming HappyCo Harbour definitely felt harder IMO. But then again, I try to complete all goals (so, to reference something else you've said, I already had to scrap quite a few parks I've been deep into building - depending when was the last autosave) - which also made Mystic Oasis surprisingly hard to me, since the time limit was so short. Sadly it comes at the expense of actually making it pretty/realistic, since it's actually something I haven't actually done a lot. Just whatever works.

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks! I agree, the scenario requires a lot, but it is very easy. Especially because you start off with many rides, a lot of land, and 2 very profitable coasters from the start.

    I know this was published nearly 3 years ago, but I think the reason why your rides are slow is not your fault but the coaster's pacing in-game. Whenever I build something, it often feels like the rides immediately lose nearly all their speed way too quickly.

  • @Bornahorse
    @Bornahorse 5 лет назад

    How do your parks make so much money, when it looks like you're barely even trying??? Even when you sometimes forget to open your rides? It's insane. I blame your coasters, they're just TOO GOOD. Don't listen to people saying they look too slow. If you got good stats and you're happy with it, they run well in game and make tons of money then that's all that matters.
    I am surprised that you didn't build this scenario, I thought for sure that you did! With these sort of scenarios I'm always afraid of running out of room, so I smush the rides super close together and it doesn't look as nice. You're so confident in your ride placement!
    I just realized that the station to the flying coaster reminds me of a mini golf hole. XD

    • @Silvarret
      @Silvarret  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you! I recently realized that indeed, the coasters make all the difference. Not to mention that all the scenery I place does increase excitement ratings by a lot, so I can demand huge sums of money from guests for riding the coasters, and at that point the income from flatrides I forget to open doesn't even matter anymore lol.

    Standup roller coasters are fun but have moved to floorless which are okay but not the same experience

      They were just a gimmick, I think. I enjoyed the TOGO standup coaster I rode because it was short and simple, but for the B&M standup I've been on I would've just preferred to ride it with floorless trains tbh.

      @@Silvarret i would agree standing in line to stand on the ride is a weird concept and a floorless coaster makes more sense. Stand up coasters arent as comfortable, if im correct b&m standups and floorless are the same track.
      And for TOGO i dont think ive liked any of their coasters ive been on but none were standup
