    The only surprising thing is that anyone is surprised - and most assets these days don't even know they are assets. You might even be a low level one yourself. SIS will have known about H6 all along, but when most MPs, Lords and assorted royals have all kinds of privileged access but wouldn't pass basic vetting they spend a lot of time advising and triaging.
    Incidentally, Chinese emigrants from Hong Kong and surrounding areas mostly prefer to be called Hongkongers (Hueng Gong Yan). It used to be a regional Yue identification but nowadays indicates a desire not to be associated with the regime.

    Russian agents of influence in UK effectively influenced results of the Brexit referendum and interpretation of marginal victory of the leave EU side. Chinese activity looks different.

      @ShadowPhoenixMaximus 8 дней назад +1

      The Russians generally operate by looking for opinions that are already present within the populace and then turbocharging them. The CCP are less subtle, although their main focus for the past couple years has been targeting anyone of Chinese descent who speaks out against them. In particular they're going after Hong Kong expats who fled to the UK after the implementation of the Security law.
      Its also why they're being pretty aggro with Taiwan at the moment - the Chinese economy is in a pretty bleak state and they don't want the locals thinking there are alternatives to the parties authoritarian rule.

    We had two in our Parliament in NZ - both unelected List MPs (we have an MMP system) - one from both major parties!! And major immigration from China and Hong Kong since the 1990s! One had been a lecturer at a Chinese Miliary Intelligence School!!

    Wonder what made using Conservatives in UK and US attractive to Xi and Putin. Are they easy pickens

    • @ShadowPhoenixMaximus
      @ShadowPhoenixMaximus 8 дней назад +1

      With the Conservatives they'll appeal to their sense of greed - joint business enterprises and the ability to take credit for bringing foreign investment/economic growth to the UK.
      With Labour its more of a ideological appeal - the CCP regularly rambles about the "Century of Humiliation" as if it happened yesterday.
      Plus there are one too many Communists in Labour who falsely see the CCP as one of the few Communist success stories.

      @@ShadowPhoenixMaximus The CCP has absolutely nothing to do wit Communism. It's state capitalism and nothing else.

      Some on the left have an attachment to Russia because of their liking for the Soviet Union. Also, they have a hatred of the West, so the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
      My wife, who is Iranian, and has experience of autocratic regimes, suspects that some older people on the left were agents of influence for the Soviets, and now they are trapped because the KGB's successor organisation the FSB has files on them the contents of which they don't want released. In other words, they are being blackmailed or they think that they might be.
      The far right, I assume, like Putin because he is a fascist and a nationalist, which is attuned with their way of thinking, and of course, he distributes money freely.

    Indeed, in the case of Russia, some are from the right and others are from the left. Which is, I suppose, clever of Russia getting some on the left and some on the right to help and support them.
