Daily but that explains why I've had to share a desk with black Americans that the desk would be covered with nasty dandruff all over it and I'd have to disinfect the desk before I could use it
Please don’t spread ignorance and be sure you apply that same level of care to your oral hygiene by flossing daily, otherwise visit a dental hygienist so that they can properly disinfect your mouth 🤗🫶🏾🥰
Have fun with lice if you're washing your hair daily. That is so bad for your skin. The dandruff was most likely yours, not your coworkers. You should only be washing your hair every 3 to 7 days. Two weeks is perfectly fine as well, especially if you are using specific hair products.
@user-cz7le1vw7l How often you wash you hair depends on how much oil your scalp makes. White people usually make a lot of oil. It travels down the hair shaft and dirt sticks to the oil, and the oil also goes rancid and stinks. It also smells when it gets wet. The scalps of people with Afro hair is usually dry and lacks oil and is dry because there is not enough oil to lock in moisture.
This is why White people need to wash their hair frequently, like daily. If a Black person with Afro hair washed daily, their hair would become brittle and break off. Black people with Afro hair need to add oil to their hair and they can go weeks without washing their hair as long as their scalp is maintained.

I'm white, never had braids done like that (friend offered once, said it hurt. I declined, I'm too much of a baby to do that), but every time I go to get my haircut professionally (I trim sections myself between haircuts) I pay the extra for a full wash. It's just something about having someone else shampoo and condition your hair that feels so nice. I used to have salon quality soap so I know it's not just the soap. Maybe it's the fact that I don't really have nails?
Sometimes if my mom or sister offers to wash my hair I let the, cause I love the scalp scrubbing

She didn’t seem offended just explaining that sometimes people don’t understand hair types that aren’t their own but that’s understandable. Her tone was educational not offended.
If anything it's just notable for any time and money spent on the hair, it would be nice to have it longer and the parent might not understand the process. It would be good to have success in the future if they want the same style again, how are they meant to know if no one tells them anything.

Braids will not last in my hair. And they hurt my head too. I've had people almost bully me into doing my hair. I don't even ask them. They just wanna do it. I warn them that it won't last, they shrug. Later, when they see it's a frizzy mess and I had to take it out, they mad. They think I didn't care about how hard they worked. This is true.
Straight hair types usually get oily really quickly and the oil spreads down the roots making the hair look dirty .
Which is why if I don’t wash it daily I put it up or braid it😅😂

@@nicoleobrien7254 Every three days isn’t bad for straight hair. Some people wash literally daily. If you can actually stretch it to 6 days without major itching and flaking in the winter, I would say your scalp isn’t particularly oily.

Yup
Exactly
Maybe her dad is getting on her nerves!😉
yes
Her hair type can't go two weeks without washing. Yeast will build up on her scalp and lead to itchiness, soreness, and a bad odour, to say nothing of looking and feeling extremely greasy. This sort of style is not appropriate for her hair type - long-term anyway. A few days is fine but her hair is a lot finer and more prone to breakage than coarser types too, she's more susceptible to traction alopecia and damage from even just medium-tight braids. All hair types are beautiful but they cannot all be treated the same way.
She looks so cute in all 3 hairstyles in this video!
she looked so happy with the curly hair and so disappointed when it was straight again 😭
Sometimes you have to accept not every hair type is right for this maintenance…it works not great if your hair is pin straight like hers. It NEEDS washing when it gets to a certain point as oils cant just absorb into the hair as easily as curly textures. The parents know what theyre talking about
Sure, but that's on the parents not the stylist. She did everything they asked her to do. Why are they getting their daughter this style in the first place if it doesn't work for her hair type? Ask that question instead of trying to tell off the stylist.
@besassyxo How is this being anywhere near rude to the stylist? Also how would they know it wouldn’t work if they’d never tried it before? Stop being negative
Yeah but the way you guys take care of your hair washing it everyday and multiple times a day, this has not always been the case. I was reading an old book written in the early 1900s by a doctor and he said, once a week bathe with soap and water and wash your hair for a boy once a week and for a girl every two weeks. There is a white girl on RUclips who also only washes once a month. So hair being straight has nothing to do with it. Some od it is just traditional.
The stylist said she always have headaches might not be the braids.
its not bout oils not absorbing. Oils have more difficulties to get to the end of curly hair. Curly hair grows upward and in a spiral. Once braided it pretty much acts like stright hair in terms of oils

As an Asian, can confirm those braids probably hurt like hell. Our hair is extremely thick and dense, you can see how at the root of the braids its not as set as people with curly hair, the hair wants to resist. I got my hair braided when i was younger in Mexico and I would absolutely never do it again it was so painful.

She looks (Biracial) Half Black & Half Asian... so her hair texture won't be THE SAME AS YOURS!
I wondered about the 2 weeks. I assume you can go longer with braids in, but My Korean ex, his family and my daughter would wash their hair 2x’s a day because they said it felt greasy, while each person is different her hair looks like typical Asian texture. My daughter often complained if her hair was up long, regardless of how tight. I personally think some styles are more suited for certain hair types regardless of race, and this style doesn’t appear to be suited for her hair texture. Regardless, good job to family and salon for letting the baby girl try it out. And wonderful job to the hair dresser for being willing to work with them. Her hair is thick and healthy😍
Her type of hair prob can’t go too long without washing. I’d imagine it gets fairly oily. Also depending on her family, it may be cultural that we don’t want to smell any scalp oil AT ALL & that’ll make a child be considered unclean. (I don’t necessarily agree with this, but traditionally a lot of parents make us wash hair daily). So I’m not surprised if her mom made her wash it
Interesting!!! Thanks so much for sharing that 🥰 I can definitely see that! ♥️♥️♥️
It’s actually the opposite. The more you wash hair the oily it gets. Bc your scalp produces the sebum and it travels down the hair causes it to look greasy or oily. So departing washing not doing it every night or every other night for her would actually make the hair less greasy over time.
It's the association with "black culture."

No, you're both right. I'm Mexican, I have thin curly hair and I can't wash my hair everyday but I also can't wash my hair once a week lol Max is 3 days. Too dry or too oily, my hair starts falling off. But I think that has a lot to do with diet too. Because when I eat clean I get a steady accumulation of oil and can go a whole week without washing it. I take full advantage too. I have a cousin on my mom's side with thick straight hair, not sure what her dad is mixed with but she washes her hair once a week and that works for her. In my opinion, thick hair/hair follicle makes for slow growing but strong hair, thin hair/hair follicles make for fast growing but weak hair. Thick hair needs more oil whereas the thin hair would probably do better with less.

I remember being forced to have braided hair as a kid. I had very naturally straight and slippery hair, paired with a very sensitive scalp, possibly because i had a very thin and atopic skin, so my skin got irritated easily. For some reason my biological mother couldn't wrap her head around the idea that not only are kids way more sensitive and their skin more fragile in general than adults, i also had skin issues she didn't, so what didn't hurt her could hurt me a lot. But of course she didn't believe me and said i was exaggerating any time i told her stuff she was doing hurt, and i was being dramatic if i cried. She would make me sit for nearly an entire day to get microbraids done and she made them incredibly tight, and any time i moved or complained even a bit she would get mad. She pretty much treated me like a dress up doll more than a kid. Needless to say the second i got any choice on my own hairstyle (i first got to choose my hair leght at a barber in 7th grade) i immediately opted to chop it all off. Went from hair to my waist to instant pixie cut. Best choice of my damn life. I had never before felt as free as in that moment.

As a chronic migraine sufferer, having hair tied up DOES cause more headaches and migraines. The tension hurts even if it's not that tight, and is a trigger. Not entirely sure why, but it's why so many of us don't wear our hair up if we don't have to. Tighter the bands the worse the headaches. Working jobs that require hair to be up can be a problem because of this. Hope this little one doesn't have the same problem.
Honestly same. I can't tie my hair at all or I will start suffering with migraine within few minutes.
Amen! I'm on Qulipta for mine. It's the only med that has helped to keep me from waking up barfing, 3 or more mornings, per week. If I put my hair up, it makes my head start to pound.
Nothing works for everybody. I think braids like this looks beautiful and I would like to be able to have them, but I can't. I can't even put mine in a regular ponytail holder without pain. Just experiment and find what you can do. The curly hair bands for instance don't hurt for instance! Though loose and adjusted a few times throughout the day also helps avoid headaches. I personally can use the long bobby pins to style mine for some hours. But I can take it down and style it back up fairly nicely quite quickly. I can't wear headbands at all without headaches, sometimes you have to work with your limits.

I love how you explained the whole story without being judgmental ❤
Ehh, like 2-3 weeks depending on the style. Our hair (blck folk) that I know of, grows when it's unbothered and kept in a protective style. I don't like going longer than that though, 3 ½ week max is long enough for me personally!♡
Soooo true our hair grows more when left alone!! My best friend use to say her hair grows a lot when it’s dirty 🤣🤣🤣🫶🏾♥️
Yessss, that is so true. I've been natural since 2008 ( b4 it became popular). I wash mine once a month. It is very dense (thick) and long and I do protective styles and "leave it alone"!!!!! That's the key. Keeping your hands out of it and keeping it moisturized. It's very healthy and I get it trimmed every 3-6 months depending on how much new growth I have.
I’m looking for a protective style for myself, to allow my hair to rejuvenate and grow.. it’s a little difficult trying to find someone who will help a white girl with this 😔
@@Hugsand_Disses I mean honestly, I don't think braids would necessarily protect your hair and depending on the type of braids, would rip your hair out (if you have typical thin-ish hair). However maybe the whole "leave your hair alone" method would probably do you good. And knowing what porosity your hair is should help further with researching how to help your hair grow. But for what I know, a method that can't be beat is the "leave it alone" bc when you constantly touch your hair you leave it susceptible to breakage and thinning. Because assuming you have typical white girl hair, I wouldn't go toooo long without washing it bc you guys build up oil way faster and makes your hair oily. However it's not a "moisturizing oil" rather it just sits on top of your hair and makes it look unwell. Hope this helps!
@@Hugsand_DissesI think the same as the other person who commented. I know it’ll be hard for you but also maybe don’t brush it as often and if you have to do it everyday just do it in the morning. The more manipulation you use the more strands will fall out. Also try to avoid any tight ponytails and just rubber bands in general. I would recommend doing a loose braid that you can put in either side or even turn it into a bun. I know typically white girls say their hair gets greasy when they don’t wash it but those oils actually help your scalp so maybe only wash 2 times a week and work your way to that point. I also recommend peppermint oil and a scalp massage once a week because that will stimulate your hair follicles to grow and leave it in for at least and hour if your don’t feel comfortable with not washing it out. Hope that helps sorry if that was a lot.
I typically go 3 days in the summer and 5 in the winter. I also condition in between washes and I strip it weekly. Gotta love that curly life ❤

The reason she’s having headaches is because box braids aren’t meant for her hair texture
Exactly
those aren't box braids sweetheart
BOXXX BRAIDSSSS???? LMFAOOO THIS WHOLE COMMENT SECTION MAD GOOFY
Are you slow?
@@producedbyturtle2951
no but ur mom sure is
It’s okay she’s just tender headed she has to get used to it , she’s so adorable and your braids are so good 🥰😌
??? I always thought tenderheaded meant you can't do their hair. Or she could have been wearing ponytails too long. Since I worn ponytails every day to school, I couldn't pull my hair back into a ponytail. I would immediately get a headache. I have to part my hair first and then pull from the sides.
@@prynkya yea they basically all mean the same thing it’s just head sensitivity, I have that real bad and I’m 24 still have a tender spot on my head
People that are a difference race than black wash their hair everyday or every other day ! People of African decent we typically wash our hair once a week or twice a month or once a month(which I do now) because we have a different texture of hair.. Also she’s probably not use to braids either 😊
I'm white but I only wash my hair like once a month...been doing this for a long time now.
@@itsbonitathat isn’t good 😨 especially if you have wavy/loose curls. You should wash ur hair at lease once a week. Your hair will get dirty and after a couple years you will develop serious dandruff. PLEASE wash ur hair!!! This is coming from a cosmetologist
“people of african descent“ is a large pool pf people that includes multiple hair textures. you’re being too general.

Such an adorable little girl with, or without braids❣️🌻
What a cute little girl!
I Know so pretty!!
I wash my hair daily, since it's thinner and gets slimy really easily, so I completely understand the mom's reaction. It's great how understanding you are.
what do you mean by "slimy"?
@@cherrypai44probably oily. My hair used to be l8ke that. I had a head full, but the strands were thin and straight. Add oil from the scalp and the hair goes limp and will look more oily than it really is.
My hair would get oily everyday when I washed it everyday. It might stay less oily for longer if you start to train it to go longer in between washed
@@katarinaford3976maybe her hair is different. Especially if she does sports or is active. I think washing everyday actually works for some people. Otherwise, I’d say 1-2 days. Not any longer.
Truth your right people don't know other cultures and your open to teaching I love this and I'm sharing to help awareness
Aw thank you so much 🥰🫶🏾❤️❤️
I love the braid out
Unpopular opinion, let's normalize having difference of opinions. She wasn't having headaches. 🙄 Her parents just can't have tough conversations.
Definitely plausible 🤷🏾♀️
Exactly. Sometimes people just don’t understand the culture and the point of the braids, someone who washes their hair almost everyday doesn’t need a protective style like that.
"how long do you go without washing your hair?"
me: that's 1 secret I'll be taking to the grave-
I’m gonna guess 4 days.
Personally I don't wash until the roaches living in it reach their second generation.
@@adamsmoberlynope depending on ur hair texture is how long u should wait. My hair is super healthy and i have an afro. I wash it every week and a half.
nasty
Once a week
I'm Polynesian loved it when my aunty stayed with us when I was a kid she could do every braid & I got headaches too but Ioved seeing my hair in braids & crimped when I took put as I have straight hair. I'm from New Zealand & ppl weren't used to seeing so many different styles. I loved it.😊
God her hair shines so nice its beautiful i love it i wouldn't bother braiding her hair any more.its absolutly beautiful shiny healthy and great.
It’s almost like there is a reason why other races don’t wear tight box braid like hairstyles anymore 😗
I can understand that!!
Right lol all the pretending
Almost like braids have existed for thousands of years all around the world in all different races
Ever heard of the vikings?
@@buxe4042yes. But they never wore box braids 😂 be fr
Take her to the African salon she’ll understand what a headache is when she’s finished. 😂😂

Her hair looks so healthy
Speaking of showers. I got to go take one 😄😂

THIS 😒😂
Exactly 😂
What concept.. not washing hair often? Yuck.
@@bethdibella550 SURE 😒
Beautiful child.
I think the hair texture is important too? Some scalps just can't handle braids for long periods of time also. And not to mention the production of sebum and dandruff.
She ain't have no headache she just didn't like the style or the feedback she received from her community 😏
bro your just so dumb
Exactly
Youd be suprised having your hair tight in braids like that or even up in a ponytail for a logm time can give you a mean headache lmao. Youre projecting beorhwr
i’m confused as to how her parents didn’t know how to unbraid hair…?
It would get tangled or matted if they aren’t familiar with taking them out
😂😂
Yeah our hair gets oily with the products we use in daily with ur texture the products don’t cause ur hair to be as oily if anything ur guys texture absorbs all of it but our looks dirty within two days of not washing 🎉 great stylist for understanding
Alsooo, if the braids weren’t tight, I can vouch myself for it being the braid gel you used (typically shine n jam products) I notice In myself and a few of my clients that it give us headaches
Oh wow. That's interesting 🤔
Something to think about. I braided my hair fir the 1st time and I used the jam products.
@@npursuit any and most gels or jams and edge controls break me out severely, when my skin touches I immediately itch. Some of my clients say the same thing I can be starting to braid their hair and they go right to scratching I’ve been researching but haven’t came across anything ( I’m thinking it’s the fragrance and alcohols they add to them)
@@KanikaInternational I have a tendency to itch with hair products, too.
Her hair is so pretty naturally I think her hair was hurting because of her hair type or she just simply didn’t like it and said it was hurting cause ik I what it’s like not fitting in, I used to get made fun of as a kid when my mom did my hair similar to this, and I would tell her I got headaches and that the pins hurt my head to the point she just stopped doing my hair and gave me a pony tail every day..
Thank you for listening to her needs ❤️ I also have a super sensitive scalp to the point i get headaches from a loose ponytail!
