My Mom had Spinal Stenosis after being a nurse for many years. She had the operation your Dad’s having. It was a little worrying at the time but it worked out great. She was so much more mobile, a lot more comfortable walking and out of pain, it was a complete game changer for her. Good luck with it.

Please adhere to the "no work/light duty" periods and post-op exercises. Difficult for someone that is so active but is crucial for successful back op. Don't be in a hurry to return to "normal" work load. Best of luck with the op
Yep and hit heavy in the first few days on pain relief, don't want to have your brain rewiring to learn pain is still there in the back. Wean off within a week from opiods if you can. Best of Luck

Tom, about GPS, once you use it you'll realise you do a better job at all things. I use to do rolling by eye mowing and all sorts. I thought I didn't need GPS, but once you use it, you realise you save time and diesel. It's a blessing to have GPS. Ho for it mate.
I had spinal surgery for disc issue, when I was in recovery I had pins and needles in my feet I called for the surgeon. Who said it was normal after disc removal, yeah I still have issues with numbness in the legs, but the surgery was a success. Go for it.. Hope your dads surgery goes well for him.
Me too. No problem now for 33 years
Had two operations on my back I had a good surgeon I'm one hundred percent but do what they say to do on your recovery
I had discs removed in my neck and lower spine. They said that I must not ever lift more than 2kg!.
I lost my job 2 years later and supported myself first by baking and hauling 20,kg bags of flour, sugar etc then had a delivery business for 20 years. Still fine!
There are a lot of farms where the senior member of the family takes the position
of the farm manager & works day in & day out in his farm office in his house.
Checking prices, checking auctions, looking at new equipment online, ordering
seed & parts and whatnot.

Bummer, Andrew! I'm having hand surgery in March. Gonna put it out for 4 weeks. Tom, I love the old video of you and your dad, laying on the grass, talking and tasting grass. 😊

I wish your dad a speedy recovery from his surgery. Tell him he should also keep a journal of his pain levels and what his daily activities are. I had my neck fused c4 tru c7 back in 2015. I can do the simplest activity, and the next day, i will have a migraine or spasms in my upper back and arms. They say you can get back to your normal routine. But your normal routine will not be the same.

Hi Tom and the Ginger guy, it was a bit technical for me today. I just like you doing all the jobs on your farm and having the banter with your dad, who always wins on what ever subject being discussed. It's unfortunate that he has to have more surgery but he is a real trooper and will be up and about before ýou know it. It want hurt having another worker trained up because you and Luke will need a break at some time and you don't want to leave it to the last moment. Some of the spring work could be contracted out when you are too busy. I wish the Ginger guy a good recovery and is spoilt rotten when he comes home. Chris from Victoria, Australia 🇦🇺.
as someone who had several operations including three back operations, one spinal fusion , i would highly recommend getting an electric reclining chair for you Dad , they make recovery so much easier . Ford = found on roadside disabled

Goodluck to your dad in his operation. I just had a Disc Surgery on Dec 19th 2023 and I started physio 8 weeks post operation and am feeling much better than before. I know its different but I am sure it will make him feel better.

My thoughts and prayers are with your dad going through his operation. I know two different people who have had disc surgery and once they had it done they said it was the best thing they did no more pain and they got their life’s back. Did not realise the farm was so close to such a busy road it always seems so quiet in the videos. Enjoy all the videos.

hello Tom. Conditioners have a lot of advantages. There is only one huge disadvantage; when the grass is too tall it cluggs the conditioner and when a 175 hp tractor cluggs a conditioner you will be unclugging it manually for at least twenty minutes to half an hour. As a result you can't drive as fast as you want and all the advantages you thought you had will be gone and you will have a frustrating day in the tractor.

Wishing the Ginger Warrior all the best for his surgery and hope all goes well for a speedy recovery (but not too speedy, as ALL surgery must be given time to heal properly.
Like any business, as it grows you have to take a step away from the coal face so to speak and bring in others to fill roles. It's how you maintain your involvement with the things that matter to the success of the business (such as the health/wellbeing of your cattle) but can trust others to do their role. No one has the passion for it that you & your dad have, as it's not their life, but build a good team around you (as you have already) and it will succeed.
Hope the operation goes well for you. Keep away from the lifting and driving of any vehicles which I found out the hard way. And Tom try and make time for your little family. It will be worth it in the end. The two most valuable is health and family.

A conditioner is good for contract mowing. But you've got the people to spread out and row up, so it's better for your farm to go for a normal mower. I think it's all personal preference. It helps in the warm weather to get it picked up faster

Hope all goes well Andrew, I had to have emergency spinal surgery so I understand the recovery process. Make sure you take it easy but I know you can’t keep a good man down for long and a hardworking man like yourself you’ll be itching to get out the house into the fresh farm air. The best advice I can give your Dad Tom is to listen to his Doctors and do not co e back to work to soon. I'm speaking from experience I've had 4 back surgeries and I'm fused from S1 to T8 and I'm probably going to have a 5th surgery this summer of 2024.

It’s going to be a game changer when your dad has his back done. Do as the doc says,, dad,, kick back and heal slowly. The only thing you lift is a pen, paper, spoon and fork. And do hire help to lessen the load on yourself Tom. You don’t need to end up having the same operation at a younger age. You and dad are in a better position on having better equipment and now with redone barn areas. Things are so much safer too. I will be sending healing and positive protection your way. Stay strong . When heading into your operation have thoughts of how you want it to be when you through it and healed up. Positive affirmations.!!! Hugs to you all. JoAnna, your a doll and sweet Harvey is a handsome lad!!! Farming is round the clock job. The wives keep up. You all be strong!
Tell your dad not to rush back to work after surgery. It is so important to take care of yourself thinking it will work out.

Just a thought on your dad getting around the farm, do a full service on the Kawasaki, get the seat reupholstered, and the door fixed(check the tires too) and he can go anywhere.
I wish your dad luck with the surgery. I had a lammectomy and spinal stenosis surgery 3 years ago. The pain right after surgery can be horendous.
