Roy was an immense talent, one of a kind. No one sang about heartache like Lonesome Roy. He started wearing sunglasses because of the bright lights onstage and it became his trademark look. True story: When Elvis was just starting out, you could book him to play a concert for $100 a night. A concert promoter in Texas - I wish I knew his name - booked Elvis to play five shows in five different Texas cities in one week. At two different shows that week, two young Texas boys saw Elvis and decided to start making music themselves. Their names were Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly. We owe that promoter so much.

Female Back up singers at this concert include Bonnie rait and KD Lang. Springsteen there too on guitar. Whole band is a who’s who.

Do some looking at this Black and White Night concert broadcast on PBS not long before his passing. That stage is loaded up with heavy hitters. You’ll be wanting to listen to the whole show.

He had a number of big tragedies in his life. His first wife and daughter were killed in an accident, leaving him with 2 sons. His parents were watching them while he worked, and he was left with one son after a housefire. He did remarry, and had more kids, but oh boy he knew about lonely. He wore dark glasses for his eye problems.
