I've been working on finalizing our security system. Nothing hard wired, everything runs off solar or batteries with the exception of the base station for the house alarm system & that can be powered by our solar system. I installed solar flood lights on the house & used a bunch of those little solar wall lights through out the yard. All motion activated. With much trial & error I was able to make it nearly impossible, even knowing where all the lights are, to approach our house without triggering lights or cameras. I did finally work out a path for us to be able to sneak out of the house without triggering any lights ourselves if need be and that's what I'd like to stress to everyone. Motion activated lights are awesome unless they're giving away your movements to the bad guy. So, put them up then get out there after dark & figure out exactly where you can & can't go without triggering them. Adjust as needed but leave yourself & your family a dark way out as a last resort. Make sure everyone knows that route. It's easy to become so focused on keeping someone from getting in that we forget to leave ourselves a way out.
Our shih tzu isn't taking down any intruders, but she is an excellent alarm system! She even has a very specific bark for "unknown people approaching"; so I immediately know when others are present. It's very different from her other barks and she's never wrong
Your “robot” at 6:35 is awesome! Good to see you have a sense of humor too! I’ve commented one other time on your channel but I’ll say it again. Great info. Great research. Well executed.
Love this. We’re finally to a point where we’re ready to go the next step and get some surveillance capabilities that won’t break the bank and will start with checking out Simply Safe. Thanks again, Kris!
I work for ADT, I could get you multiple cameras installed for free for $51.99/month if you’re interested. It’s no upfront cost so that might help with getting it quicker. Have a great day 🙌🏽
I like to have some 2x4s and screws ready to help reinforce any major entry ways. There are also things in your home you can use to help board up windows, just need the screws or nails.
I use the Chamerlain brand druveway sensors. They have a 1/4 mile range. I put them around the perimeter and in each outbuilding. A beep at night is a good warning
Another awesome video! 🎯 Just remember that you need to keep lights and cameras in a location that makes it as difficult as possible for criminals to smash them. My research as a home defense consultant has taught me that thugs won't think twice about destroying your property to accomplish their task.
With your research as a guide, and this topic is open… Please give us 4-5, new pieces of info that the average person can put into place or practice. Thanks
I bought some harbor freight solar security light that I put on my fence line. Incredible bright and have lasted 2 years ready with no issues. They have a great range and give me a heads up if anyone's on my perimeter. Highly recommend
Going to test my perimeter alarm today. A notch on the end of a rat trap and plumbers strap to hold a 12 ga round. Cut and empty the bird shot. (save for pistol shot shells) and fill with chips of wood. Tape a bearing over the primer. Fasten a tin can with both ends removed, over the exit end of the shell. Trigger fires trap, primer ignited, wood chips through can help amplify the sound and cause a 2nd sound when they land. Powder charge causes small flash. "Pop" causes dogs to bark, wakes/alerts sleeping humans, and serves as a warning to intruder(s). One problem I already foresee is possums or other creatures stumbling into the trip wire.
Harbor freight is great for people on a budget. I decided to go with AV camera setup and solar security lights also door alarms and bars across doors. Dog and firearm also. I have a older 5000 watt generator that needs a little work yet to get going so my cameras could work if the grid is down technically because they don't depend on wifi at all.
I’ve been lax on this topic, and I recently paid a price. Something got into my chicken pen and killed three of the five I have. This is the kind of thing basic surveillance might have prevented.
@@melodyclark4347 Caught any? I *hate* coyotes ever since I saw them rip apart my family’s cat as a kid. Open season and no bag limit on them in Texas. I wish you could shoot them in suburban areas. I’d even be willing to call police to report my culls if I had to.
There was a story of a guy who woke up to an intruder, I believe his doors were all closed including his bedroom door. However he could listen and hear the intruder inside. He turned off his tv which gave off his location but he shout at the intruder that he had a gun. This he did not have, but he did have his phone and a speaker. He turned on his speaker and looked up gun reloading noises and played it. It surprisingly deterred the intruder since they only had a knife. His quick thinking saved his life, but it’s also a lesson to be prepared before hand but also become a quick thinker! God bless, good luck comrades! Edit one: I just heard Chris mention the trip wire gun shot, much better system than the phone speaker😂 but I still like to share this story
I heard someone at my front door which was very secure BUT I had sliding windows about 18 inches high from the floor. The rest of the windows went from there to the ceiling. They could have crawled right in onto my floor so I quickly locked my bedroom door and looked up large watch dogs barking. I played it loudly as I called the police. They said their had been a group of young teens knocking on people's doors late at night. In one instance thy broke into a house only to be cornered by the owners dogs. Most likely it was them. I guess the barking dogs scared them off.
As someone who spent much of their youth as a deplorable degenerate, I can testify that even most modern surveillance tech (at least visible stuff) is pretty easily neutralized, especially post poofan.
Back in the 70s/80s my dad use to keep the Christmas lights up year long on the enclosed porch. . Every once in awhile he would turn them on,some light is better than no light,he would say as far as lights. . 🎄
I strongly believe in using solar power motion lights. I do think that now they have solar power shop lights they're made like the 4 foot fluorescent lights. That could be used in areas of storage.
String out fishing line accross any pathways to your house attached to tin cans filles with small rocks. When someone trips the string the small rocks rattle in the metal cans. This is good as a back up in case of power failure where your motion lights don't go on. Place security film on your ground windows. This makes it very hard for the glass to shatter. Place thormy bushes or flowers under ground windows. Use shot gun shells without the Buckshot attached to trip wires.Get night time vision glasses. If you live out in the country, besides dogs, you can use geese. They are very noisy whsn strangers come across their path; they will attack; they lay eggs and they taste good.
I have cameras and solar motion lights but my primary alarm and initial protection is my dog, she's a large well trained German Sheperd😁 If they get past her I have other means of protection.
I love using solar powered motion activated light. You can mount them using (outdoor) double sided sticky tape. Then add solar powered motion activated cameras (with night vision) that can be linked to you phone and computer.
I thought I was the only person who used game cams! Nothing is 100% the perfect thing but you just layer it that way with different kinds of security and that’s a good system! Anyway game cams - affordable, battery operated and not connected to the internet in any way!
One area of video security that just about everyone misses is to have cameras that are placed away from your home/business. Bad guys have to approach and egress your property during the course of an attack. Being able to detect them and video record their actions as they approach and leave your property can be invaluable!
They broke into many cars last night where I live. They got in and had a device to decode the fob we own. I put mine in the freezer. My family ordered a protector for my key fob online. Just like u protect u credit cards. This is bullcrap. These theives are so smart these days!!! I cleaned everything out of my car , no ez pass no handicapped tags, no charger. Cleaned and EMPTY.
Dont laugh. I got one of those anti theft bars for the steering wheel. My car is older but dont want it messed with. It's an extra step. But mte. Deter someone & pick another vehicle.
On rare occasions when I stop at fast food places, I look for seating in a spot where I can keep an eye on my vehicle. Clean out your garage, folks, so you can park your vehicles inside. Lock any doors connecting garage and house!
Palapala. In regards to your vehicle security, have a mechanic install a fuel pump bypass toggle switch on your car. The criminal can decode your key fob all they want, if you have the switch toggled, your car won't start
I honestly think you need to make a more updated/focused video on how to make your home less appealing to approach when it comes to plants and layout of the yard etc. For example place thorny plants under all your windows.
People have been flashing lights at cameras to block them. Aside from hiding them, any advice to counteract this? Just using multiple cameras and motion sensors on the perimeter?
It's also neat to go outside with NVGs and see all the infrared security cameras in your neighborhood. They look like porch lights through night vision but when you remove them to visually inspect the "light", there is no light because it's a security camera.
Maybe have decoy cameras and then hidden cameras all watching each other (and/or the most likely problem areas), so if anything happens to one camera another one should catch it. I'm actually astonished that many people would have plainly visible cameras (clear easy targets, maybe temporary deterrents at best) with no hidden ones to catch the real action.
Blinking led lights hidden near windows and doors. Have them out of sight but able to light up enough to show any potential intruder they may trigger a trap or alarm.
I know of a man, who lived in my community, who installed a special cable around the border of his land. If anything touched that cable, an alarm would sound inside his home. He was always worried about trespassers on his large tract of land. The perimeter alarm would sound, he would run out the front door, hop on his four wheeler and fly out to investigate why the alarm went off. It is my understanding, in England it is not against the law to trespass unless you're causing damage doing so. It gets to the point, if a person is so obsessed with preventing others from entering property without permission, that living in peace is impossible. As long as a person respects the safety zone law and they're not stealing my stuff, I'm not going to spend every waking moment running people off my land. I've got better things to do.
I’ve used garage door sensors. Set them up at about waist high an anytime the beam was broken an alarm wired to the perimeter sector would sound. These work great.

The other thing I wanted to share not related to this video is about food storage and storing brown rice with oxygen absorbers can create botulism just thought I would share you really have to be careful of how do you store your food because certain things can create botulism if stored improperly.
I have no experience with rice supporting the growth of botulism. Although botulism is extremely toxic, it degrades quickly with heat. Since most rice is boiled, it seems reasonable that botulism organisms growing in stored rice is a moot point . . . hopefully.
Those internet security cameras like the “ Ring Door Bell “ and others will not work, even tho you have your router up and running. I ran into this problem during Super Storm Sandy. Power was out in my area for over seven days and I was the only one with power and over 55 gallons of gas on hand ( I have way more now. My wife didn’t like waiting on those gas lines, but yet she stop me from getting more gas containers, but that’s another story 😂 ) so I had power and so did my ring door bell and Cameras, but the grid was down and it wasn’t sending anything out. But my other 12 cameras were working find. So don’t depend on those internet system to work and send you feedback when the grid is down.
I see the vest was removed from the background.. you are on your own is the best mind set, never get complacent or place false hope in others.. not to mention realistically going nomadic will be the real course of action, in that case again you are on your own... s.o.p. you are on your own
I do a ATV ride round of the property before the sun goes down. I have several outdoor CCTV cameras with a few extra fake security cameras mixed in so people cannot tell which are real and which are fake. The wild animals alert me when we have trespassers as well. Front door is not used and can only be opened from the inside and you need a series of a dozen keys. It has several dead bolt locks as well as chains. There is also a heavy chair propped up against it. I am down the road from the state juvenile delinquent rehabilitation facility and we get escapees who always try to break in the front door. The side and back door are the ones that I use to get in and out and I keep keys strapped inside my bra when I am not inside. I also keep a Christmas decoration from the Dollar Tree on the inside of the door which make loud noises when the door opens. It is a hoop decorated with ribbons and jingle bells. There is also solar outdoor security lights all over the property. I have a strategicly placed mirror in my living room so I can look through my bedroom door and see the southern half of the property. The northern part of the property has outdoor solar security lights so I can look out the laundry room window for that half of the property. I also have a pistol, taser and stun gun for my personal safety. The property owner also provides hunting rifles and ammo but I don't want to have to use one of those but they are available. Friend has a cat who hides under the bed when strangers are on his property. If you come over here and you were not invited, I might decide to use Bessie and 6 daughters if the worst comes and y'all do not let me get any sleep.
This video SHOULD have focused on a surveillance system when there is no power and no wifi. When my area loses power, there also no wifi. Wifi runs on power, after all. We lose power a lot.
I bought a motion sensor that triggered a unit that produced a dog barking...it lasted a year before it stopped working.☹ It alerted me when someone was outside my front door and hopefully they thought a dog was in the house. But it repeated the same bark over and over... Then I bought a motion sensor alarm designed for bikes. I stuck it on my front door. If someone jiggles the door it put out a very LOUD siren. The adhesive is so strong I don't think I can get it off my door without peeling off the paint. 😁 All sorts of stuff out there, but cheaply made. Can a Solar Gen be used as a UPS to keep the network up after a power outage? My security cams store video in the cloud...not any good without power.
> Can a Solar Gen be used as a UPS to keep the network up after a power outage? short answer is yes. some are better at this than others. i personally keep these strategically located around my house for that purpose.
All of these solutions are great. Personally I will not be investing in any of these types of things until I have a bugin place. I won't be carrying these things around with me and before WROL no one will come close to where I'll be bugging in. After WROL, I am my security system and there will be no warning shots.
I believe the .22 caliber blanks-based perimeter system is primarily employed by arctic explorers, hunters, and trekkers to scare away marauding polar bears. Whether the system can also awaken the sleepers to a defensive posture is irrelevant. If the polar bears are hungry and not merely curious, they will eat the campers asleep or awake.

No one comes near my home . My oversized German shepherds are loud and warning one barks at everyone walking by and the female bites if you stick your hand in my fence , she doesn’t warn . My 100 lb Rottweiler just makes people walk away very quickly not wanting the eye contact . They also warn while your sleeping giving you time to get awake and grab your gun to go see what they heard . I have signs on my fence and front door saying beware of dogs with pictures of gsds on them and a no trespassing sign with a picture of a gun . Your “robot” at 6:35 is awesome! Good to see you have a sense of humor too! I’ve commented one other time on your channel but I’ll say it again. Great info. Great research. Well executed.
Loved that opening quote ...! I wholeheartedly believe that....and in SHTF those neighborly 'friends' could sink you. Prepare for the possibility.
Have a great day 🙌🏽
Simpli Safe is a great system. I have had one for about 6 years now and am upgrading to some new cameras now.
G. K. Chesterton is awesome!
Just remember that you need to keep lights and cameras in a location that makes it as difficult as possible for criminals to smash them.
This is pretty easy when you live remotely on a mountaintop in interior Alaska. Helicopter only access.
Great, another Simply safe ad
Thank You for the options, and suggestions :)
Thank you Chris great content always. Security is extremely important now more than ever.
Good Morning Chris!
Thank you for this video! Important to know all the options available.
This is really good information. Thank you City Prepping!
Got myself lone wolf with a gun, gotta a lot of Windows, and knowledge
Harbor freight is great for people on a budget. I decided to go with AV camera setup and solar security lights also door alarms and bars across doors. Dog and firearm also. I have a older 5000 watt generator that needs a little work yet to get going so my cameras could work if the grid is down technically because they don't depend on wifi at all.
I’ve been lax on this topic, and I recently paid a price. Something got into my chicken pen and killed three of the five I have. This is the kind of thing basic surveillance might have prevented.
I feel for you. A predator got in my chicken coup. Now they refuse to go back in. I'm building a new one closer to the house. God bless you.
How horrible
Should set up coyote/fox traps.
@@militustoica Oh boy. I have both.
@@melodyclark4347 Caught any? I *hate* coyotes ever since I saw them rip apart my family’s cat as a kid. Open season and no bag limit on them in Texas. I wish you could shoot them in suburban areas. I’d even be willing to call police to report my culls if I had to.
Thank you for this video👍👍
My pleasure
Dachshunds are more badass than people think.
lol. it's the little dogs that can't help barking nonstop.
"it saved his life" is a bit of a presumption
But what a guy lol
I heard someone at my front door which was very secure BUT I had sliding windows about 18 inches high from the floor. The rest of the windows went from there to the ceiling. They could have crawled right in onto my floor so I quickly locked my bedroom door and looked up large watch dogs barking. I played it loudly as I called the police. They said their had been a group of young teens knocking on people's doors late at night. In one instance thy broke into a house only to be cornered by the owners dogs. Most likely it was them. I guess the barking dogs scared them off.
Home Alone
I recently told my dad we could save ammo by using Bluetooth speakers and look up gunfire shots to scare people off.
Good job, kids. Now get yourselves armed.

LifeProTip: Get a solar powered Beagle. He will howl when the grid goes down as long as you give him kibble
hahaha
Thank You again for an important video.
When it's comes to camera, wired camera with ups back up power best way to go, they can always jam your WiFi signal even You hide SSID 😃
Thanks for the great info. I've been using a small Parrot Anafi for perimeter surveillance they work great.
I bought a Rex II. It's a motion detector that sounds like a large dog barking. It can "see" through walls and doors.
I have cameras and solar motion lights but my primary alarm and initial protection is my dog, she's a large well trained German Sheperd😁 If they get past her I have other means of protection.
Great researched information and presentation.
Who would give this video a thumbs down?
haters...lots of them :(
I love using solar powered motion activated light. You can mount them using (outdoor) double sided sticky tape.
Then add solar powered motion activated cameras (with night vision) that can be linked to you phone and computer.
Thanks fir ViDIEO Chris 🤗👍🙏
Great contribution
I thought I was the only person who used game cams! Nothing is 100% the perfect thing but you just layer it that way with different kinds of security and that’s a good system! Anyway game cams - affordable, battery operated and not connected to the internet in any way!
Hi from Syracuse NY brother and thank you for sharing this information and facts and truth brother
One area of video security that just about everyone misses is to have cameras that are placed away from your home/business. Bad guys have to approach and egress your property during the course of an attack. Being able to detect them and video record their actions as they approach and leave your property can be invaluable!
I was little but, I remember vividly remember odd/even license plate # days. Gas locks I jus bot at local parts/small gas container.
Spike thorny bushes in front of every window, aid in deterring peeping toms and worse.
@@Favorite-catNip not laughing - those thing are awesome
Palapala. In regards to your vehicle security, have a mechanic install a fuel pump bypass toggle switch on your car. The criminal can decode your key fob all they want, if you have the switch toggled, your car won't start
Thank you Sir
a very good video 👍💡🏆
thank you!
I honestly think you need to make a more updated/focused video on how to make your home less appealing to approach when it comes to plants and layout of the yard etc. For example place thorny plants under all your windows.
great suggestion!
after some recent vandalism, security has moved up my importance list.
I know a dude that lives near me that has a drone with a thermal camera on it. Talk about a force multiplier
Blinking led lights hidden near windows and doors. Have them out of sight but able to light up enough to show any potential intruder they may trigger a trap or alarm.
We have very similar system, Seems to work great..... :):) GREAT CONTENT!!!
Great ideas. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
While you're not being bothered by them, they could easily be casing your place to find the best way to get past whatever defenses you DO have.
@@sandym6760 strategic dark zones. Make your most defensive position seem like the path of least resistance. Using levels of redundant hurtles give you the advantage of critical time. The art of war is deception.
The other thing I wanted to share not related to this video is about food storage and storing brown rice with oxygen absorbers can create botulism just thought I would share you really have to be careful of how do you store your food because certain things can create botulism if stored improperly.
This is the first I have heard this. I looked it up after you posted. Thank you for taking the time to share.
Brown rice really can’t be stored long term because of the oils. Store white rice
I have no experience with rice supporting the growth of botulism. Although botulism is extremely toxic, it degrades quickly with heat. Since most rice is boiled, it seems reasonable that botulism organisms growing in stored rice is a moot point . . . hopefully.
Keep some near doors for easy access
I’ve
Learned a lot from an old Vietnamese about home safety & security & they ain’t no joke they’ll come in but won’t come out in survivable peace.
Great info…. See the threat, address the threat appropriately. Preparedness preparedness preparedness. Seconds save lives.
So don’t depend on those internet system to work and send you feedback when the grid is down.
excellent point. definitely test your equipment out without power being available.
I'll make a suggestion. Get a solar powered motion sensor for driveways
If you come over here and you were not invited, I might decide to use Bessie and 6 daughters if the worst comes and y'all do not let me get any sleep.
mahalo .... dogs, neighbors, the aloha spirit - will work on lights and alarm
This video SHOULD have focused on a surveillance system when there is no power and no wifi. When my area loses power, there also no wifi. Wifi runs on power, after all. We lose power a lot.
Helpful
Glad it helped!
If anyone remembers the show 'it takes a thief' from the early 2000s, you'll learn a lot on this subject too.
All sorts of stuff out there, but cheaply made.
Nice robot dance! 🤖👍
lol. i think you're the first to notice it. it's my go to dance move b/c i can not dance ;)
Hi Chris I haven't spare cash yet for cameras as I help my family with a lot if money 💰 ,I HV been doing security things at home last month and this month ,and doing some Security in garden ,I've fitted window jammers on windows and door and I've got Alarms to put on all windows next wk as they Nd extra glue as they don't stick on well ,each window has a window locks on handles and I've bought ,4 security solar lights for garden there brill so going to get two more next week ,I need to find out what I can put legally at the top of my fence so folk don't come over ,I've such a long fence down my yard and all the way round the back I just haven't come up with a legal cheap idea yet ,I hope I can get something ,my cuboard out side has one chain and padlock and I've two bolts and 6 padlocks my friend and family laughed when they saw it 🙈
If you have a dog make sure you have a lot of food for it too.
We have ring cameras, solar spot lights, amazing neighbors, and 2 German Shepards and a Mastiff that go nuts at any sounds they hear. I'm most confident in the dogs.
I'll say this i always know what's going on outside. My Pitbull is on 24/7.
God is our ONLY answer. Prayer, repentance, BEG mercy for our sins....God and His celestial army is OUR ONLY answer, nothing else.
My house protection is five dogs.
My home is brick so it is hard to set it on fire during an uprising of angry pissed off people . Make sure you have wood to nail up on your windows inside and out side when the shtf .
Wouldn’t the marauders just follow the drone to where it lands and attack that place. That’s not very OPSEC
that's a possibility. i've replaced the blades that come on my drones to quiter ones so they're not nearly as noisy. if you use drones, definitely consider landing at an alternative location to avoid being followed. will discuss this in a future video.
Pretty fast marauders if they can keep up with a drone, mine is much faster than a human..
Dog. First line of defense. Alert you. Second. You draw your weapons. Third. You better know how to fight if weapons don’t work. Fourth. Kill by any means necessary. Great video, brother 😎🤙🏽
I know all my neighbors on one side of me I don't know that well. when his mom was alive it was like the hatfield and the mccoys
More ammo.
