    Your fan cable routing block the air flow to the fins

  • @Pngwolffman
    @Pngwolffman 7 месяцев назад +36

    Wires are blocking airflow through the fins directly to the fan... I wouldn't run the wires like that.

  • @shaolindan
    @shaolindan 7 месяцев назад +26

    The fan cable is that long so it can go in a cable tray built in to the underside of the main (middle) part of the case.

    Notable omission in this test is noise comparisons. While I do care about cooling performance, the Pi Active Cooler is quite loud when it kicks in. I'd love to know what the Argon case sounded like under stress testing.

  • @nfriedly

    Is the extra wire blocking airflow from the fan to the fins on the heatsink?
    Could you redo the test with the excess wire over by the GPIO pins instead and see if it makes a difference? (Edit: or in the cable tray that someone else mentioned.)

    The great thing about the Argon cases is that when the chip is idling, the fan does not need to run at all. Fans will eventually wear out, so the less you run them, the longer they last. I have the Argon 1 m.2 for the Pi 4 and really like it. I hope they come up with a version like this for the Pi. Having a case with full-size HDMI, everything on the back, and a real M.2 would be great.
    The one thing that has always bothered me about the Argon aluminum cases is that nobody really mentions how the metal affects the WiFi. I usually use a wired connection, so not a huge deal for me.

      I have an Argon 1 m.2 case on a pi 4 and use the WiFi. I'm one room over from my router and both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi work fine. Very annoying that they did not make the fan cable the right length, but it is a very bad idea to lose the extra length in the gap between the side of the fan and the heat sink fins because the air is supposed to flow through there. Only semi-neat way I found was to coil up the excess length under a bit of heat-shrink tubing immediately above the plug. Other bummer is there is no good place to stow the RTC battery. Only solution I found for this is to make a pocket for it in the lid. Literally thirty seconds later I forgot about it and yanked the wires when I took the lid off again!

    Does this case blow hot air out at the top?
    Where does fresh air come in, from the holes in the bottom?
    This would be great, because it would cool the backside of pi5b too.

    should have compared with and without lid as well, as I think it without would have scored significantly lower, as shown in the test of the Pi active cooler over at the ExplainingComputers channel, so would have been interesting to see if the Neo would have gone even lower than that without the lid on

    very nice case looks tempting but based on perforamnce id have to past. my over clock temps at 3000 and 1000gpu i get 28-53c over several hours of ps2 emulation and stress tests. open air case is best design. these cases are trapping in an abudant amount of heat from the unit and ps2 aestherx is the most demanding even on the orange pi5. opi5 temps are alot less than this.

    Hi , how ironic I wanted to ask people who may have bought this case a question and its on ETAPRIME's channel which I really enjoy !
    My question: Can anyone recommend a cable of 1m or less please that they have a solid tight connection with this case ?
    Background:
    Before I had a pi 3b, flic case and HDMI cable with no issues. With this case for my pi 5 it uses micro HDMI instead so I bought a UGREEN Micro HDMI to HDMI 2.1 Cable 8K 4K@120/175/240Hz. Bit overkill. But like some other issues I read with Pi4 and micro HDMI because of the case design people did get some connection issues. On my Pi 5 to me the cable is not going in far enough, so if I move the case by powering up or plugging controller in to play on my pi 5 emulation .... I loose the video and audio, I have to wiggle and push it in tighter again. The lead is too loose. I dont really want to dremel the case like others have done for pi 4. Can anyone recommend a cable of 1m or less please that they using and have a solid tight connection with this case ? Thanks in advance. Amazon will take cable back they are very good ike that ! A point to note unlike the flirc case this has a screw on cover, which if you swap the car a lot may want to leave off.

      Sorted this out ......The official raspberry pi hdmi mini to HDMI , the metal connector is physically longer you can see it when you put then on top of each other. Connection through the case is now a lot better without it losing signal.

    I would really be happy, if they (companies making cases for pi) could design some universal case that would fit all versions (can be bit bigger case).
    As for this in video, I do not like the design at all. Somehow ARGON NEO for PI4 look better, this one is just a black brick. But if it cools, works then guess it is fine.

    Therein lies the problem with the latest Pi. It's price level is approaching mini PCs price level when you factor in, a capable power supply, max memory, effective cooling and a case to suit.
    Not many people care if a mini PC uses up a few more inches of space compared with a Pi, so minis must look like a much better fit, especially when the use case is old game emulating. With a PC memory, size is way more flexible as is the power choice of engine and GPU. It's obvious that mini PCs will emulate more consoles glitch-free, no argument there.
    What's in the box running this game emulator? Who cares as long as it works . . . properly. That's a mini.
    You can bet your sweet bippy that ETA uses a powerful PC of some description as his emulator engine of choice. I do.
    Oh and ETA, the Argon Neo is not "an all metal case".
    Let's not do that okay? Just sayin', but appreciate the video all the same.

    i hope they make a version without that red two tone. argon should keep to its colour scheme. not a fan of red.
    the design is a bit inconsistent there requiring screws to open the to cover. was a fan of the previous sleeker design with the magnets and black and gray colours.
