If Stormfiends had to come to Total War, they'd best as a Hero unit. It would account for how excessively powerful they seem, and would give the Skaven their first monstrous Hero. Instead of bloating the roster with 6 different varieties, the weapon loadout can be changed like mount options (which is something people have already implemented with mods).
@@jiado6893 I disagree with turning them into heroes, the skaven hero roster is already super bloated as is. And at the moment, there's only two types of rat ogres, with only one of them being a unit, the other single a entity. A bloated roster still offers more choice than a bloted hero roster. Not that I am against adding more heroes at all, especially legendary ones, but not at the expense of turning units into something they're really not. Not to mention stormfiends as units help bring a new meta into the game as monstrous skirmish unit (the only other being ushabti great bows, as salamanders/razordons are a hunting pack but still close), something that will be more prevalent in game 3, where they'll be featured. There is more variation and builds available they could do (2 types of range, a melee varient and a RoR), whether for competative online builds or lore friendly builds in campaign, way more on offer keeping them as units, or at the very least having them as units alongside a hero equivilent. This is also not even including the lore restrictions, but I avoided mentioning those since I personally prefer a stretched out lore to a completely faithful retelling. After all, this is a video game, not a board game and GW isn't infallible.
I love this mod. Well done to ChaosRobie for tweaking the stormfiends a bit, it’s nice to see them closer to how they are portrayed in the lore and it’s great that he listens to feedback
In regards to whether or not the stormfiends fit the Skaven aesthetic/theme/whatever, I think they're a great example of what the Skaven can accomplish if they stop fighting each other for five minutes. It really illustrates how the Skaven are their own worst enemy.
During that second battle I was busy watching the Stormfiends turn the enemy leader into Swiss cheese and didn't notice the infantry get deleted until the leader died
Great vid as always man! Thanks for introducing us to this wonderful mod and modder! I had some of his stuff already (but not this one) and didn't even realize it!
My only issue with Stormfiends in this case is that they just feel like weapons teams tbat dont suck in melee. To me, it kinda feels like the shooting should be a bonus; something they can do while charging around, smashing things to pulp. I never played WHFB so maybe this is how they played, but I would personally like it better if they were a even lower model count (maybe even a SEU) monster with decent ranged, rather than a ranged unit that also happens to be a monster. That said I think the mod is absolutely fantastic; just not quite what I envisioned, which is fine :)
True, indy was hyping them up so much but regular rataling guns seem to actually be better as long as they are out of melee, and honestly if you try hard enough the enemies wont get close
Hell the stormfiends are probably large enough to be similar in stature to dreadnoughts from 40k; they even have a ranged weapon in one arm and a melee weapon in the other! A little smidge closer to total war: 40k I'm hoping!
I use a combination of stormfiends and rattling guns since the fiends can just stand inside the rattling units and still shoot unhindered. This way i get much more concentrated firepower.
The thing is about them being tied 5 is that skaven don’t need to wait for growth cuz you just use food to push settlements up to max tier when you capture them so you really just need the money to Get the buildings which is easy cuz skaven are rich and can sack and occupy and not worry about bringing the settlements level down So you could probably have them by turn 45-50 if you play your cards right

The combination of consistent heavy fire and artillery as shown around 15:40 is what we call in my line of business "Shake and Bake". (Not really, it's smoke mortars mixed with WP shells but you get the idea).
@@milkandcookiesTW Yeah, it's legal and still used. The extent of my knowledge and best way I can put it is "Can't use it for the purpose of specifically burning people/ nor in areas where civilians may be present" but can be used in a combination of things such as fragmentation/ HE. This is of course in the context of lawful military engagement against lawful targets. I don't know anything outside of that, tbh. The "Shake and Bake" thing is mostly to severely disorient your adversary.
buffstack you're saying? Do you mean having more than one warlock engineer per army that give bonus to ranged unit on top of the lord's?(Plus, stormfiends are moulder unit, hence, buffed and healed by pack-masters)

Clan Moulder has a dragon mutated into a horrific abomination. Lizardmen have dread saurians. Orks have a totem animated by gork or possibly mork. In terms of outrageous units they seem in good company. From a lore aspect they make sense. If ratling gunners are okay, rat ogres are okay, then why wouldn’t Skryre combine the two. The stormfiends just seem like a logical expansion. What I want is a steamtank with a Helblaster and a ghorgon for the beastmen. From a balance standpoint I think it works. For like 25% more you could get a feral dread saurian. I don’t think they’re as effective.
Man, I hope you do some mad lore battles with his other skaven modded units: He's FURTHER updated the stormfiends now! they come in twos but are now a lot stronger, bigger and NOW have DUEL FIRE--aka DOUBLE rattling cannons YES-YES

i would be fine with it, but i honestly think they need to start making skaven have failed technology or something, on the battlefield where not all your units weapons don't fire or work properly or explode on usage after being used to much, since its skaven technology. dwarfs make their technology to perfection before use in battle the skaven just don't care, so with all the units skaven keep getting it would be nice to see their experiments fail on the battle field at times.
More Poisoned Wind Mortars would be better too. lots of ways to make Ikits stack better than the one I have atm. but having fast Terror that can chomp up a backline is fun
