Kill Creek was an excellent read with a fresh concept re the birth and evolution of a haunted house. Well constructed story with interesting characters who provided a little insight into the professional lives of published and popular horror writers. I thoroughly enjoyed the action-packed and satisfying ending. I was just waiting for that final reveal and think it was so nicely written in a unique way with a contemporary set up. It left me with a big smile on my face! Now looking forward to The Only Good Indians.
Great review. For some reason, RUclips inserted ads six or seven times for this one -- they must think you're a particularly hot ticket this morning! :-)
I enjoyed Kill Creek, gave it the same score as you did! I really liked the truth of the power of the house, where the entity came from, and what it wanted from the visitors. For me, Scott Thomas's spin on the haunted house story was executed really well! I read The Only Good Indians around two months ago and it's been my favorite horror book that I've read this year so far.
I really did enjoy this book but I feel like the death of Daniel's daughter is what really got me. paradoxically, however, I thought Daniel's role as the axe murderer was very troupy for me. I understand why it was done but that was probably my least favorite aspect of the book. Honestly tho, The house "saving" TC totally flew over my head, thus, I was actually quite mad she survived until the big reveal at the end. hahaha all in all tho, 't'was a good one. Reading The Only Good Indians as we speak.
Great review! I liked the book but I didn’t love it, as I was reading it. However now that some time has passed this story has stuck with me. I would say now that it has had some time to sit with me a little while I really like this book a lot. The characters were excellent, and like you, Daniel ended up being one that stuck with me. The way Scott Thomas wrote Daniel’s “big event” and his response to it was excellent. You could almost feel his pain.

This book was well written, there was nice twists and everything was nice and scary. Still I did not enjoy this as much I expected. Why was these sisters important? Why the wall was there? Etc. I'm looking forward to Only Good Indians. I have read the Terror couple of years ago and it is an awesome book. I really like to hear you thoughts about it. Books in the poll seem very interesting, I'm definitely gonna read The Final Girl Support Group and Chasing the Boogeyman.
Hello Crabshorts, thank you again for the book club. I have finished Indians and Kill Creek still stands as my favorite as the club so far. It is the most well thought out and cohesive of the stories so far. I found it very cinematic and feel it would make a great movie. I envisioned the last third of the book as a movie as I read. I am not exactly sure what was the source of the houses power. Was it a witch? Was it public attention and concessnes? Does not matter. It is super natural and beyond human understanding. As long as it is coherent and makes sence for the books characters as they deal with it; which it was. Something from which the other books we have read so far can learn. I gave it a 4/5, which is high praise (5 star books are rare indeed). An enjoyable read. Enjoy you weekend.
Hey Michael. Agreed about how cinematic it was. It was really easy to see in my head what was happening. Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what the presence in the house was either. It wasn't a "ghost", but there was certainly something. I want to read his other book, Violet, now.
I've always seen the cover for this, but never knew what it was actually about. Great review. I'd definitely read every book by that TC Moore character 😂
It was quite good. I wish there had been examples of each author's writing. It would have been interesting to see their style, and yes, I would have loved to read her stuff too.
I read The Only Good Indians last year and was incredibly disappointed. It was so long, boring and not at all scary, except for the last 30 minutes of the audiobook. I'm planning on getting to Kill Creek eventually.
I like the cover-- it looks like a Daniel Danger painting

@@JeBoardCrabshorts Looking forward to that!
