Looking at this in 2023 reminds me of how stunned this show left me after watching it back then at the Dominion. And now I literally can't wait until this amazing production finally returns to London in spring 🤩
I'm no professional critic, and I don't believe I really write that well, and I usually don't give reviews/ my opinion too much because it's my own and I don't think people be too concerned with it, however, I had to write something about this play. My wife took us to see the show in NYC on 8-10-19 at the off-Broadway New York City Center theater. WOW!!! we had an amazing time, the show was great, the players outstanding, and of course the music was mind-boggling. (having grown up in Meatloaf's rise to stardom, we know the album/music very well.) We loved it from the get-go all the way to the end. It became one of our favorites and we will be back!! The story they developed for the album was great, I felt it matched up with the songs so well, that I have a whole new outlook on the album as I'm listening to it for the 7-8th time since the show. I loved how everyone was perfect in their roles and did the music justice as they sang wonderfully. Andrew, & Christina were magnificent and stood out in their lead parts, but that doesn't mean the actors/parts of everyone else doesn't deserve accolades for their part in the play as well because they sure did/do. Everybody sounded great, everybody did their part extremely well and we loved it anything in totality with everybody included. We laughed, we sang and just has a great time. Thank you for the show all!!. It was a radically fun show and can't wait to go back to see it again. I hope it stays in New York for a while to come!! The theater was a great place for the show too, and kudos for the stage design guys for all the great scene designs they created/ used. The director/ producer should be proud of the musical in its entirity as it gets a 10+ from us. By the reaction of the crowd we were watching laughing and singing with (everyone in the sell out crowd) I'd say the feeling was the same. with everyone)

Dear Michael, thanks, you did well, better than a professional review. Jim Steinman (RIP) and Meat Loaf(RIP) would really appreciate your comment and how you praised the cast. It was a great concern for both of them during their lifetime to realize this musical. I hope they come to Germany again so that I can experience that musical live. Greetings from Germany.
Danielle really rocks that outfit she's nearly wearing. First time I heard her voice I almost fell off my seat, never heard anything like it.

What Part of My Body was a song I didn't know, but it immediately blew me away. I like Tink nodding approval in the background. Rob and Sharon are amazing.

LMAO.. What is that man doing with the leather jacket and headphones on? And please don't say that he's the conductor because nobody's watching him.
I've tried to like this musical, I really have...but I'm sorry, I can't..and I think its because of the lead. The girl is good and the backing singers are great, but I just get the feeling that this guy is an X Factor wannabe, and he doesn't really feel the lyrics nor the rock n'roll as it was intended...you can put all the black mascara and leather clothes on him, but he doesn't have that attitude, that feeling to be a rock singer...don't get me wrong, he has a great voice and is a good showman, but I don't think this is his role..Anyway, just y opinion.
I think Steinman and also Meatloaf like him a lot. His voice is perfect and I think his look is exactly what they want. These are kids, they aren't older than 18 so they need to look young and I think Andrew looks vulnerable. This is a story that's a vehicle for Steinmans fabulous music, not a Meatloaf concert. New people have to sing this music or it will die. Meatloaf is one of the greatest but he's an old man, he's not well, Steinman is not young and this music needs to be heard. I love this show and I just missed it last fall and I can't afford another trip to London this year but if I could I'd be there and would have a seat for every night. Wonderful music sung by lovely, talented people.
Honestly, having seen the show a few times, I think he's perfect in the role. But it's the role of Strat, the perennial 18 year old, which in itself is likely very different from the role of "the perfect rock star in your mind". He's got a manic feverish delivery when he needs it, he's got a tender and gentle side when he needs it.
But since you've made your mind up already - maybe try and go to see the show on a night when one of his understudies are on!
Also - a lot of the songs in the show are performed by the other cast members and as you already noticed, they are *amazing*!
Have you seen it live? He blew us away in the theatre in the original London run and has a real rock presence on stage. As others say above, is it the role rather than the singer that maybe you have an issue with?
Anyway, were going back in a few weeks and cannot wait.
