He had no idea about having to make a speech. Barely skips a beat and delivers an insightful personal description of the art of screenwriting. What a legend.
1:16:32 For every original and truly creative, aspiring or established screenwriter/director who wants to really understand what the term Cinema actually is. I haven’t ever found is more beautifully and more simply articulated than this. Kudos to the lady who asked the question. We’re blessed to witness this.
To this explanation Cuarón gives, I would add what David Lynch said (also at BAFTA) about people not getting it: "The film is the thing. You work so hard, after the ideas come, to get this thing built. For all the elements to feel correct, the whole to feel correct, in this beautiful language called Cinema. And the second it's finished, people want you to change it back into words. And it's very, very saddening. It's torture. It's the _film:_ the language of Cinema."

I never even entertain the idea of watching Gravity or Interstellar or Roma or Shape of Water in the phone or even on the computer. Thank you for the gift Alfonso. I have always been a fan of the Three Amigos of Cinema, have been a fan since Y Tu Mama Tembien, And Guillermo's Devil's Backbone, and Alejandro's Amores Perros. I am so grateful and look forward to more to come and more such educational and inspirational interviews. Thank you so much and thank you so much for the upload.
I think it just wasn't creatively satisfying for him. I agree, if he had done the rest of the films we'd be hailing the HP series as one of the greatest tent-pole series' of our time, but we'd be deprived of original masterworks like Children of Men, Gravity, and Roma. POA is one of the greatest films of the 21st century, and I'm happy we got a slice of true excellence. I can't wait for the next Alfonso film!
Así que ya lo saben lo dijo Alfonso Cuarón no te detengas con tecnicismos a la hora de escribir...El Cielo es el Límite para tu imaginación, buena entrevista la de Jeremy Brock saludos a todos
Towards the end of the clip, Alfonso beautifully captures the essence of cinema as the dance between its elements, where the synergy creates something greater than the sum of its parts. He distinguishes this immersive experience from what he perceives as "books for lazy people" - series and movies that lack the depth to engage one's senses fully. His perspective highlights the richness of cinema, where every element contributes to a captivating and meaningful whole, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in the art form.
Does the interviewer have to say something every time Alfonso pauses? "Yes...of course...right....mhm...." Someone please tell him to wait for his guest to finish everything they have to say to interject.
I enjoy so much hearing him speak, he has a very interesting conversation. I’ve seen some of his movies but I fell in love with Roma! Felicidades master y viva México! 🇲🇽
It’s interesting to see that the moderator/writer Jeremy resembles a lot Pawel Pawlikowski who’s a close friend of Alfonso and who’s also currently in the much deserved limelight for Cold War ! It’s a trivial thing but I found it worth mentioning.
Thanks for this. The moderator keept talking about Tu mamá también as Cuarón first film, actually he made a stir in México with his first commercial release movie Sólo con tu pareja. He always does reference to Bertolt Brecht, like the man singing in the middle of the fire in Roma
Really wish the moderator wouldn't try so hard to be a know it all. Just listen, let the man speak, that's what he's here to do. Otherwise very insightful talk.
Around minute 42:00, he mentions a movie Dead Man Escapes by Breslin. I can't find it anywhere other than perhaps a Stallone movie. Can anybody enlighten me further please?
I have to disagree, cinema is also visual. and tarantino delivers amazing visual compositions. just look at kill bill. cinema is also visual language. so I don’t get why you say that.
He's like the last director in hollywood that's still allowed to do what he wants, and it leaves an impression on the younger generation of moviegoers who have been oversaturated by marvel and star wars.

"Andrei Tarkovsky: Cinema Is a Mosaic Made of Time"
Agreed!
Right, whenever he speaks about cinema there is a certain joy and passion in his voice and his lights up and thats extremely contagious to the viewer.

Intelligent cinema, difficult to find directors like this
Unfortunately intelligence on a creative and philosophical level isn't saught after in hollywood. They love the yesmen.
Roma is a masterpiece. A universal tale and beautiful in every way.

Prisoner of Azkaban was the best and most thrilling of all Harry Potter movies, I don't why he didn't direct more parts of it!
It's good he just dipped in and did one, going that route seems to turn ones career into making marvel and Disney movies forever
@@TheJonnyEnglish Fr he might not have made Children of Men if he kept on the franchise route

What is the piece of music he talks about at 16:53? The subtitles says Tristan by Hansen, but i can’t find it when i search it up.

Who is the interviewer?
Please let Alfonso Cuaron direct a Tarantino script
That'd be interesting
This interviewer is so annoying, can't he just listen, does he have to impose himself when master is speaking.
The 4 dislikes must be from the other directors that got snubbed for an Oscar last year.
Jesus christ the interviewer is unbearable
