Geoff, as a Baritone/Bass in a singing group I have to thank you for bringing awareness to the awesomeness that is a Bass singer. You have inspired me to solo more. You've taken your video-making to a brand new level with this one, to say nothing of your deeply convincing acting. I genuinely wanted to give you a hug at the end of this. Kudos all around, sir.

Hey Geoff, i'm a little frenchman who discovered you (and Voiceplay incredible "the Dragonborn comes") just a few days ago with your beautiful "Far over the misty mountains cold" version, the best cover i've heard of this song, and my new favorite song. I'm listening and playing music for almost 43 years, and rarely been so impressed and touched by an artist. Your talent to sing, harmonies, arrange music and create such incredible videos is unparalleled for a solo artist. I just can't understand how do you not have dozens of millions views and dozens of millions followers/subscribers... and you love cats, that's even much better. 😁 you seems to be a really genuinely nice and sensitive guy, father, husband, human being. I wish you, your family and Voiceplay all the best and can't wait to see your next work.
I don't know if you're a fan of Jacques Brel, but if you are, don't you think Geoff could do some amazing things with some of Brel's chansons? Like Brel, he can tell a story with a song.
I may have at least a partial answer for that. We who love, love, love VoicePlay and Geoff can't wait to see the incredible reactions of those who are seeing the video for the first time. We will watch every single one of them to enjoy not only our VoicePlay but the unbelieving reactions by those listening.
@@laras678 hey, I didn't thought about that, the singing style of french speaking singers like Brel, Ferré, Piaf, Aznavour, can be very interesting but a little bit tricky for english or non french speaking singers, but I think it could be very interesting artistically to see where Geoff could go with Brel, I don't know if he knows french singers. Hey Geoff, do you know Brel?
Thank you for mentioning Jacques Brel. My Dad was a Rod McKuen fan and I grew up hearing a lot of stuff from McKuen and from Brel. People say McKuen was corny but I don't think so. Music is meant to bring out all the many emotions and there's no shame in that! This cover is in that tradition.
How someone can sound like a demon one second and then like an angel the next, I’ll never know! My favourite singer of all time and I’m STILL always surprised at how amazing he is with each new song! Just wow!
That image of you sitting surrounded by light-sunlight pouring in through the windows and glowing on the floorboards-while singing "ain't no sunshine" is really powerful. Goes to show how a dazzling exterior can mask a whole lot of inner pain and regret. The "darkness every day" is something we carry around inside of us. Reminds me of a line from another song: "There's a beauty in being broken, I've been seeing it." That's what you've done here Geoff; you've found beauty in the brokenness, and shared that vision with the rest of us. Thank you! 💙 (that line is from "Without Fear" by Dermot Kennedy, btw)
I hadn't picked up on that until you pointed it out. And yes, the juxtaposition of the light and dark is powerful, but it's an inner darkness. .... mind blown
If a person doesn’t break a little here and there, how is their soul going to grow? There is a Japanese-word for the repair of a broken vase. You don’t just slap a dab of glue on it. Oh no! You thank the brokenness with a glimmer of pure gold. You’ve outgrown those baby booties. Walk tall and just be. Pain and all.
I'm absolutely in LOVE with Geoff's upper range. There's such a clear and beautiful quality to it that just takes my breath away every time I hear it. Please sing more songs like this Geoff!
I completely agree Victoria! I love his smooth buttery mid range but his beautiful high range makes me grin like a Cheshire cat just as much as the bass drops. We definitely need more! 😊
OKAYYYYY!!!! This is a masterpiece of craft, a genius creation and most of all a you've got serious vocal elements working truly well together, especially from one vocalist. Extremely complicated production with just one artist. I can't explain it! It is extremely well crafted from beginning to end by one human. This must have taken months of planning and executing. AMAZING and beautiful. It even has the sticky effect, you nailed it. I just don't know how you accomplished such composition and development. Honestly sharing this, this is a very contrasting piece, packed with talents I thought would never compliments in a production of just one artist, usually we get a short few seconds, but this is just spectacular. Geoff, I am curious, realistic, how long did this masterpiece take you? Please let me know, because this is sonically impressive. Who else feels what I am saying?
Where does he find those high registers? The range on this guy is one of a kind. Nobody can do the things that he alone can do. Can you name anyone else. Nobody with his bass range can also be in perfect pitch in high range and still have a purity of tone. Geoff Castelluci you are quite literally "something else". Congratulations.
OK. Has everyone missed him lightly running his fingers over the carved edge of the table that he might feel something other than his crushing pain? The only thing that rivals his sublime voice is his mindbending stagecraft! I'm in love!
It was also a way to show the two wineglasses, one on its side. I think it's a nod to the original song, which was inspired after Bill Withers watched Days of Wine & Roses, about two alcoholics in an unhealthy relationship. When she was gone, she was often off on a bender. This guy is untucked, untied, undone -- another subtle detail to tell the story of the song.
@@bluesmith1938 Oh he certainly is, but that was also how I missed things! Now my method is: 1st watch - look at Geoff and only Geoff *sigh* 😊. 2nd watch - struggle to tear my eyes away from Geoff 😊👀 to catch the wonderfully subtle and creative extras! 3rd, 4th, 5th watch.... well I'm sure you can guess! 😂
If I showed this to someone who did not know him, they would swear there were four different singers. Another amazing performance that will enthrall the audience.
@@paulwhitford6814 I remember when my husband first discovered Geoff and then Voiceplay, he had to constantly tell me which it was. I honestly couldn't tell the difference between his songs with himself or with the other guys!

Are you kidding us Geoff?!?! This arrangement is absolutely insane! And I LOVE IT!!! Videos like this one really show how good of an arranger you are. Seriously, you‘re a world-class arranger. The creative ideas that you put into your songs are just amazing and specifically with this one you outdid yourself once again. Bravo Geoff!

I've seen this repeatedly on Patreon and I'll never tire of it! Melancholy Geoff and his singing are riveting. The style is different from what he normally does and I'm loving watching him evolve and grow. Geoff's harmonies are spot on and take advantage of a good portion of his amazing range. Geoff's acting is convincing and heartbreaking. Awesomeness!!!!! 💜💜💜
I have a hearing loss in mid and upper ranges. Not total loss, but moderate. But i can still hear that bass, and I love music so much, these deep bass voices are a gift for me ❤
Check out his video on hearing loss. His wife has significant hearing loss, and I just keep thinking how blessed she is to have such a deep voiced husband!
OK, I'm slow. I finally realized how Geoff turned this song inside out, just as he did with Dream On. Withers made the song about missing a lost love. Geoff focused on the grief of passing time. The use of the repeated word 'anytime' (in the original, but not a focus) in the stutter/stop musical sequences (sorry, I don't know what that's called) to the fade sequences in the video that showed us this was an ongoing grief he'd felt many times in the past, to the background percussion that sounds like the ticking of a clock - all of that is powering this sense of grief and time lost. It's still about the girl, but much more focus on time passing. In Dream on, he took a forward-focused rock anthem and turned it around to focus on time gone by. Instead of the original last words, pushing forward, running ahead of time "Dream until your dreams come true, maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away" - he transformed it to an elegy by making the last words "the past is gone." This is so much bigger than the usual "reinterpretation" that I'm simply in awe. It's so smoothly done that it took awhile to realize just how radical the transformation of both songs really is. Kudos, Geoff. This is ART.
I had the great honor of meeting Bill Withers many long years ago. He was a very nice, very kind man. I didn’t know him more than a few hours and I had no idea who he was at the time-which he and his crew thought very funny. A few days later I saw him on TV performing Lean On Me, a song I’d always loved. #Headsmack. Anyway, I remember thinking that day that he was a man who carried a lot of sadness and a lot of beauty with him-it was an odd thought but I never forgot it. I think this arrangement and Geoff’s performance really does him justice.
This is the best display of Geoff's range yet. Simple yet absolutely incredible. He has managed to keep the soul of this song and give it a beautiful modern twist. I am in love with all the highs and lows of this !!!
His range is ridiculous. Like full on ridiculous. How? It sounds so effortless regardless of where he's singing. I also enjoy how he "sings with his hands" as one commenter on another video said. You can anticipate the low note and your soul still isn't ready...just wow
What a joy that you have given us the opportunity to support your music and your videos, Geoff. This one blew me away, auditory and visually and I'm so glad I helped for a small part to make this a reality, because I am in awe.. Immediately from the very first seconds, you start it off with this highly impactful, catchy and groovy motif which almost feels like a punch to the gut, which aids in telling the story to be told. Only to later strip it down and build it back up. I wish this could be about an hour longer, as I was absolutely enthralled by your interpretation of what is an absolute classic and you have my full attention. Using your entire range again, using so many layers and elements, with smoothly performed riffs which all has their role in the story you are telling. You have given this track such an updated feel, pacing and vibe. Whereas the original stays the same throughout, as usual you can't help yourself but to mix it up and make it different. Which is so interesting and with each listen there are more details to pick up on. On repeat. Endlessly. It won't get boring, It will join the ranks of the classics, as it's original inspiration. Visually, It is rather different from what we are used to from you besides the group shots, but I so SO appreciate you trying new things, and I duly enjoyed many of the choices you made. The movement of the camera, the composition of all the shots was really well done. The lighting, the effects that you added here and there. Unfortunately sometimes the group shot was a bit too blurry for my liking, but not in a way that disturbed the overall result too much. You always nail the details, this one is no different; Very fitting elements on set and one item making its return, the intentional blur, symmetric vs asymmetric shots.. The editing of the different chosen shots together with the camera movements really works. Your "acting" is a wonderful touch to change up your videos and in several parts you really sell the story you are telling. Thank you for trying different things and taking risks. This one is for sure near the top of the list of your best creations yet. Thank you for sharing this with us.
I'm not sure why RUclips dropped this in my recommended list since I'm far from the demographics but I'm so glad they did. From a card carrying senior citizen whose long ago teenage self had a crush on a long forgotten actor who sang this on a long forgotten variety show, I thank you. Music should evoke emotion, no matter your age. This brought a smile and a tear to that long forgotten teenagers face.
Excellent cover, as usual. Geoff NEVER disappoints. His range is off the charts. But the truly amazing thing is that his tone, vocal expression, clarity, timber etc. are "spot on" regardless of vocal register. On VoicePlay's cover of "Oogie Boogie's Song", you'll hear Geoff float from his upper registers to lowest registers with no detectable effort at all. His voice is smooth, haunting, sexy & delicious. I love ALL his music and that of VoicePlay too. My favorite Geoff cover is "Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold". He is my favorite bar none.
I am completely agree with other people in the comments - his lowest notes are unique and gorgeous, but we definitely need to hear him singing something in his upper register more often 🥰 Hachiko mode is ON 🥺
You have spoiled us sir! Now anytime I listen to other music I expect the same absolutely epic excellence I get with your music. It’s an entire experience it’s not just a song! The emotions you both portray and invoke, the video quality, the vocals, all are top tier excellence. Thank you for sharing your talents with us!!!!
@@suzyb1701 it probably helps on Voiceplay that nearly half their music arrangements are done by Geoff. He knows his range but gives everyone something to do. I think PTX, Home Free and other acapella groups kind of keep their bass singers in the basement and let them show off their range once in awhile.
@@waltermcgarvin8001 I agree, but again some people complain wanting only one person to sing lead, whereas I love the fact they hand off the lead to each other so you get to hear and appreciate each of their talents! 🙂👍

@@bjspeck4337 that's so great to see other people reacts to Geoff or Voiceplay, so many feelings, emotions, I really enjoy all of these good vibes.
Just wow!
Exactly. I'm so used to his low notes that hearing him do higher ones kinda throws me off for a second.
If you want another demon/ angel singer look up jinjer you might like it
@@linkthor5247 Thanks for the suggestion. She’s definitely impressive.
Amazing how he harmonizes with himself
That image of you sitting surrounded by light-sunlight pouring in through the windows and glowing on the floorboards-while singing "ain't no sunshine" is really powerful. Goes to show how a dazzling exterior can mask a whole lot of inner pain and regret. The "darkness every day" is something we carry around inside of us.
Reminds me of a line from another song: "There's a beauty in being broken, I've been seeing it."
That's what you've done here Geoff; you've found beauty in the brokenness, and shared that vision with the rest of us. Thank you! 💙
(that line is from "Without Fear" by Dermot Kennedy, btw)
I was gonna do a long physiological comment on what many men feel but decided not to do so.
If we'd never been broken before, never had any cracks in us at all, how would the light ever get in?
He seems so heartbroken, it makes me cry. Astonishing acting! 💔❤️🎶❤️🔥
…and a FANTASTIC rendition of this song.
Right? We all get goofy over those lows, but man he sounds great up higher too.
@@suzybailey5501 it's the contrast from the high notes to the low notes that just tickles my brain cells 😮💨

When Geoff Castellucci interprets a song one feels that this is the one and true way to sing it ❤
This man has a stick of butter for a larynx. His voice is way too smooth!
1:18 what the….. how is this man for real?!?!?!?!?!
He's for real alright
This depth is a sound from Mother Earth's soft womb and reaching warm summer sun.
Such powerful and yet soothing masculine voice ❤
His higher registers sound incredible.
SQUEAK - thank you
@@GeoffCastellucci lol
Where does he find those high registers? The range on this guy is one of a kind. Nobody can do the things that he alone can do. Can you name anyone else. Nobody with his bass range can also be in perfect pitch in high range and still have a purity of tone. Geoff Castelluci you are quite literally "something else". Congratulations.
How many octaves is his range though? damn lol well i bet someone is gonna vocally analyze this song at some point
@@themagescorner 5 octaves
Y’all aren’t ready for this. This might just be my new favorite from Geoff. So great
It’s hard to top High and Dry, 16 Tons and Misty Mountains, but yeah, this one just moved to the top.
Haha. Every song by Geoff is my new favorite. :)
Lovely arrangement for a fabulous classic. ❤
@@shirleykarr3554 Oh, very much so. And the utterly crushed posture. I ached for him.
Oh yes, I quickly learned to pay closer attention to Geoffs videos, so as not to miss any of the often subtle and wonderfully creative little titbits!
@@suzybailey5501 Great that he's so very easy to pay close attention to, isn't it?
@@bluesmith1938 Oh he certainly is, but that was also how I missed things! Now my method is: 1st watch - look at Geoff and only Geoff *sigh* 😊. 2nd watch - struggle to tear my eyes away from Geoff 😊👀 to catch the wonderfully subtle and creative extras! 3rd, 4th, 5th watch.... well I'm sure you can guess! 😂
I WILL FOREVER BE CONVINCED THAT NOT NEARLY ENOUGH PEOPLE KNOW WHO GEOFF IS. LIKE HOW DOES THIS NOT HAVE MILLIONS OF VIEWS?
I mean he does get over a million on like every cover he does but yeah it deserves more
It will. Oh, it will!

Поет как дышит. Дышит и поет. Гармония. 👍👍👍👍👍
Geoff's range will never stop putting me into shock at the low notes.
His voice is instant calm. I can never get enough.
А меня впечатлил дизайн, единство интерьера и одежды. Стильно! Исполнение песни тоже на высоте.
Найдите кресло Мерин Монро , я его видел в книге1986 . Бомба . Но до сих пор не немогу найти эту советскую книгу.
If I showed this to someone who did not know him, they would swear there were four different singers. Another amazing performance that will enthrall the audience.
Funny you pose this, I came across Geoff recently and thought it was 4 different people. He has an amazing voice.
@@paulwhitford6814 I remember when my husband first discovered Geoff and then Voiceplay, he had to constantly tell me which it was. I honestly couldn't tell the difference between his songs with himself or with the other guys!
The Headless Horseman, and Misty Mountains are the ones that really kind of threw me for a minute, until I figured out that it was all him.
The first video I watched Idid think there were 4 singers. His videos and his voice are amazing.
That was a super creative arrangement. He always manages to one up himself

His voice is totally sick his range from top to bottom is crazy amazing. Love when he hits that super low octave
Восхитительный бас! 🤩удивительное сочетание такого глубокого баса с такой хрупкой романтичной внешностью. Четыре октавы - это сильно! Джефф, люблю ваше творчество!
I believe his wife Kathy is his production manager as well as Voice Plays. She is so overlooked as a part of the team.
@@marshayoung9387 If kathy arranged this it looks like this :
Kathy: in here you must hit 3 tine G2 "i know"
Geoff: I WANT G1

He's got such an amazing range
And he can sing in all of them.
Geez. This brings tears to my eyes every time.

Astonishing multiple octave voice! Beautiful.

Hello 👋
I can't stand the original version of this song, mostly because it's on our work playlist and MASSIVELY overplayed, but this cover is EXQUISITE 😍

New Voiceplay AND new Geoff in one week?! Sign me up!
Instead of the original last words, pushing forward, running ahead of time "Dream until your dreams come true, maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away" - he transformed it to an elegy by making the last words "the past is gone."
This is so much bigger than the usual "reinterpretation" that I'm simply in awe. It's so smoothly done that it took awhile to realize just how radical the transformation of both songs really is. Kudos, Geoff. This is ART.
Einer meiner Seelentröster❣️
I totally love this song. His facial expression looks likes he's serious. His voice gives me chills. Keep up the awsome work.❤❤
I had the great honor of meeting Bill Withers many long years ago.
Wow! What a range!!!!!🎶
This is the best display of Geoff's range yet. Simple yet absolutely incredible. He has managed to keep the soul of this song and give it a beautiful modern twist. I am in love with all the highs and lows of this !!!
If your bones don't rangle while listening to his songs, you're missing out on the experience honestly.

Wow! His beautiful low notes & the arrangement are perfect. He can sing a full five octaves!!!
I’m really impressed with your comment, if you don’t mind friendship where are you from?
This guys doesn’t feeds music to your ears, it’s goes directly to your soul.
I am completely agree with other people in the comments - his lowest notes are unique and gorgeous, but we definitely need to hear him singing something in his upper register more often 🥰 Hachiko mode is ON 🥺

@@suzyb1701 it probably helps on Voiceplay that nearly half their music arrangements are done by Geoff. He knows his range but gives everyone something to do.
