I wish the F-4S was the tech tree version, or if they added a F-4S upgrade to the tech tree F-4J... would love to have a navy phantom with slats in the tech tree
I think the Vulcan gun pod is the one that has a much larger effect which why some people don’t run it on the British Phantoms. The Colt 20 mm is smaller after all so less of an effect on flight compared to Vulcan.
If you're a newer player, take this from an F-5C pilot who's been looking at and test flying the F4S and Mig-23ML. You will spend at least a few hours trying to figure out how radar works in all likelihood. It's simple enough to put on some new key binds for it, but actually being efficient with the radar, and knowing when to use what modes and all that, is going to take some getting used to.
Any advice on it? Been getting into t6 in the us tree, started flying the f3h-2, and been considering getting the f4s to be able to grind out t7 and 8, when I get there, but the jump from essentially no radars, to multiple modes/scopes/settings etc is throwing me for a bit of a loop.
@@SuperAwesomeCloudMan I'm still learning the ins and outs of radar myself, as it is a whole new world. This is the video I've been watching to learn how it works. ruclips.net/video/lF-8jutRymk/видео.html I watch it on my phone while trying to do the things he's talking about in game to learn. I just figured out how to lock at close range and fire. There are other videos of this nature that I'd recommend looking into, like the different types of missiles and such.
Yes im having this problem rn, if i had a quick 5 min detalied description of this plane and its exact radar and all the different modes i would learn it fast i just dont have the proper learning tools in front of me, turning radar on and off, locking targets in radar, changing targets to lock, changing radar search mode i got all that just fine, for me learning all the different modes and what they mean is my only problem
Everyone underestimates an agile eagle but if you're in right speed regime there are hardly any planes that can keep up with your aoa let alone beat you outright, but you have to secure your kill fast because you will have at max 3 turns before things turns before you've dumped your speed. And try not to go vertical because you may fly pretty good for a brick but you're still a brick. Also I know the f4s doesn't have agile eagle per say but its the same principle
This is specially true since most people in air RB don't know how to dogfight so they come in as fast as they can so it's easy to turn inside them even in a phantom. But good luck surviving long enough for you to survive even the first turn in a dogfight since early game you'll just get collected by the enemy team or someone's going to steal your kill
my 2 cents as a radar technician in the navy. theres a thing called radar cross section. basically how big the target looks to the radar. based on the aspect angle of the target relative to your radars position, may give a bigger signature than another target angled a different direction. i highly doubt this is implemented in the game but who the hell knows at this point lol.
I just had a double kill earlier because my first missile went for a MiG-23ML behind the first initial MiG23BN behind it, i don't really understand how, but my first Sparrow was perfectly tracking the other MiG while i was radar tracking the one infront which also hit.... yeah, lucky kill but it confused the hell out of me.
When someone crosses your target at a similar speed, the sparrow will go after them instead, because it assumes the radar locked chaff. I've gotten some crazy kills because the missile veered last second into a adjacent enemy who flew past my target at nearly the same speed. Sometimes it results in a miss. But most of the time, you hit.
F-4s is probably the best Fun versus Tier versus repair cost ratio you can get right now on the US tree. That award used to go to the F5C and it could still be tied for first or a close second. At 5k the repair cost means you can be as reckless as you want. The bonuses mean your always earning. The F-16 and F-14 are great, but your in top tier 100% of the time. If you play a 11.3 the down tiers into 10.3 are really fun to play, especially on the bigger maps. The F-4J was my most played jet after the F5C because of that reason. The F-4J is amazing and if you have the bugged 10 missile loadout before it got fixed its the best jet you can have in the US tree. I used to think nothing beats having 6 sparrows and 4 Aim9s but the F-4s maneuverability outweighs the extra sparrows since ive played it. Its a new experience playing an F-4 that can 1 circle with the best of them if you know what your doing. It should have been a tech tree jet that was out a year ago, but I guess a premium isnt bad either. It has its pros and cons for sure, the major con being the price. If you have gaj bucks from past Battlepass sales or are holding on to something to sell it wouldnt be a bad time to cash it in if you need to grind US top tier. F5c is great grinder but lacks good missiles and ammo for guns is minimal. When you put bombs on, it feels weighted down. The Intruder premium is slow but has good missiles and decent bomb loadout. However on big maps this is painful without airs spawn. So then you have the F-4s...its fast. Has all the ordinance you can ever want. Has great missiles and guns and the best RP bonus for grinding. So its the best of all world for US tree grind for sure.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the new larger ARB maps and the as of this morning, larger team sizes. In the past you were against larger teams and bigger maps so I'm wondering if that's still the case. It seems to make it a little harder to get good positioning and predicting the path of the enemy team is more tricky since people are just going all over the place but that may change once a new meta develops.

@xxSgt_Aryes not to mention the SL and RP bonuses are crazy. First game I took it out in I only got 4 kills, killed a teammate and respawned like 14 times (it was my first game and I was facing Mig 29s the whole came, k?) And still walked away with 150k.

I think they've changed some values in the Sparrow code to make them less accurate or some value in the radars for the same effect, that's what it feels like

You end up in gunpod situations because you put yourself in them. I'm not saying having the gun is worse than not having it. The gun just complements your play-style. If I'm flying a phantom I'm going to keep my speed above all else. I have the engine power to control my distance and engagement with bogies if I'm smart. I try not to dogfight in phantoms, but that's just how I play this plane.
Most planes have significantly more engine power than the phantom these days so you’re really not much in control of it unless you’re playing overly passive - in which case i’m sure ur team is appreciating that
The Israeli Kurnass 2000 is the best F4 in the game. 6 AIM9 Ls and Sparrow 7 Fs plus maneuverability mods in tech tree and the US gets a bad F4 for $70
the F-4S is the best phantom the US ever used in service. Phantoms such as the EJ kai and Kurnass are upgraded by the countries that have them, and as such the US never used them.
7:37 to be fair that is War Thunder they put in alot of cool sim stuff then proceed to not fine tune it for realism... My main exemple is how guns feel in WT... They react to your momentum roughly 2x-3x more then they would IRL making them very funky and unlike any other game/sim...
I bought this for 20 dollars by using Microsoft rewards right when it dropped and its one of my favorite jets in the tree. Its everything I love about the J/E with a fat SL booster
Great review and I agree other then you want to play the Phenom historically. Or if you think you won't live long enough to use the gun pod and tthe extra speed is more useful to get you those missile kills then go gun pod.
What do you mean by your recommendation on buying the MLA? there is no premium one as far as i see. I'm asking because i'm looking forward to buy my first premium and don't know which one i should get
I wish I got those rogue aim 7s, mine will randomly just lose lock on the person I'm shooting at even though my radar is still locked. Maybe it was trying to go for another person and lost lock but idk.
for top tier it’s better than how it was but still not ideal, my ideal top tier is the larger operation maps from the old rotation, as an 8v8. either way, for non top tier it’s a big negative
Because there’s absolutely no reason for vehicles below 11.0 to increase in player count. Or map size for that matter. There’s such thing as too much going on at once.
I noticed you unlocking a target to switch radar modes. Are you doing that on purpose? Because you can switch radar modes midlock. Or maybe the F4S radar specifically cant do that
So I need some answers. I bought this plane to grind for the F14 tomcot. I do have top tier experience with my F4F however I almost never touched radar missiles until now. And I am having a hard time learning them. Like I switch to square mode but every time when I see an F16 or MiG even F4S it just doesn't lock. I normally fly low altitude with high speed. Do I need to fly wirh high altitude and high speed to get it working and lock on someone I really need help.

$70 for a warthunder jet is absolutely stupid… no interactive switches in the pit and no real systems modeling for what equates to a simple flight model is abhorrent and I can’t believe people are unloading cash on these top tier premiums
Just a warning to anyone who wants this thing, the radar gun lead is broken and doesnt function right now, but it is supposed to have it. Good ol' gaijin half-assing stuff again.
the gun radar is fixed but it seems to not be very useful because it only works if youre locked onto the target. Am I doing something wrong? Keeping a lock during a sudden dog fight doesnt seem like its very common

If you had the enemy locked the Sparrow can’t physically lock onto anything else because it’s SAHR. If it did so it’s a bug and a pretty game breaking one at that.
@@earthspace8666 that’s not true
@@Rmmmmmmmmmmk Unless the pilot relocks something else, it cannot go for anything else, it literally doesn't have its own radar, unlike a FOX 3, a FOX 1 doesn't go pitbull and is therefor safe to fire into something like a furball.
@@earthspace8666 it’s totally possible for the missile to pick up a target you haven’t locked, provided the radar return from the unlocked target is stronger from the missiles point of view. Think of the radar like a big flashlight, sure it’s pointed at the target you have locked, but the missile can still see radar energy reflected from something else and go for that instead, it’s the same reason why chaff works
@@Rmmmmmmmmmmk True, my mistake, the missile can in theory go for a radar return stronger than what is being locked, I have only ever seen it happen when the chaff is being used though, an STT lock is pretty strong and I have yet to see when I'm playing that a friendly aircraft have had a stronger return than what is being locked in STT.
Really wish this was in the tech tree this way i dont have to grind 4 different lines to get rank 8 usa such a money grab lmao they get away with so much
I would say grab it if you haven't grind out the US tech tree.
Most planes have significantly more engine power than the phantom these days so you’re really not much in control of it unless you’re playing overly passive - in which case i’m sure ur team is appreciating that
@Seek Is boom and zoom in props considered passive? Cuz that's basically how I play the phantom. Just on a BVR scale.
It’s still not out on PSN. Idk if this is a warthunder thing or a Sony thing. But it’s annoying
Great review and I agree other then you want to play the Phenom historically. Or if you think you won't live long enough to use the gun pod and tthe extra speed is more useful to get you those missile kills then go gun pod.
Somebody please tell me why I can't buy the f4s it just says coming soon
What do you mean by your recommendation on buying the MLA? there is no premium one as far as i see. I'm asking because i'm looking forward to buy my first premium and don't know which one i should get
I meant ML. Which is a copy paste MLA, but a russian premium
@@SeekerHead thanks, i didn't know that
Thank you
They have yet to release this vehicle for consoles along with a few other ones it's ridiculous
this things radar has a tendency to ignore chaff. i keep dying to the f4s, chaff doesn't work for me for some reason
can you make a video of the settings of your plane control that you use?
I wish it got all aspect IR missiles.
I wish I got those rogue aim 7s, mine will randomly just lose lock on the person I'm shooting at even though my radar is still locked. Maybe it was trying to go for another person and lost lock but idk.
Thx for posting vids almost every day bro
I can't even buy a pair of shoes.
Took f4s as a new pilot
Dude, its definitely worth it, 6 sparrows, good enough radar system, hmd system
I'll open f14 in a few days already 😮
its the aim 7F that uses the HMD/Radar right? or can you use the IR missiles with the HMD as well?
Yes
HMD WORKS FOR RADAR LOCK VERY WELL
What is your opinion on them increasing the player count on teams?
for top tier it’s better than how it was but still not ideal, my ideal top tier is the larger operation maps from the old rotation, as an 8v8. either way, for non top tier it’s a big negative
@@SeekerHead how is it a negative?
Because there’s absolutely no reason for vehicles below 11.0 to increase in player count. Or map size for that matter. There’s such thing as too much going on at once.
I got it I have fun with this jet
I am on PlayStation and i can buy it but way
I noticed you unlocking a target to switch radar modes. Are you doing that on purpose? Because you can switch radar modes midlock. Or maybe the F4S radar specifically cant do that
switching modes mid lock is a feature not every plane has. Mostly just the newer ones. The F4S is too old, you have to unlock to switch modes
i can't speak about the F-4S radar. But I know for a fact that the Mig23's radar doesn't have that functionality.
By square mode I mean IRST mode the one where the radar gets a tiny bit of space
aww i got the f5c on sale and im getting better init but i really want to move up to get a reall top teir experience aww i just duno if i should invest yet cozz im only now hitting 9.3 br hmm
Hear me out now... zunis with short fuses. Why take bullets when you have flak?
No! Absolutely not! Not worth $70.00, not even close!
I have it for 1 Day now and im am at the and of rank 5 🎉
Bro o have a problem, I want to buy the F4s but it appear in red and when i want to buy it it says soon what i can do
Here I am 9 yrs old plenty of time but no money for a premium nice
this is just why phantoms are superior u can shoot at 2 targets at once lmao
hey what about the F4EJ KAI?
why a10 have 9L but 4s dont ?
if you have money and some competent amount of skill then yes
Top tier premiums are scum, but it's great to fly this around in test flight to get practice with high level radar.
Had one match where most of my kills came from the gunpod
Imagine if I had not had the gunpod because I wanted to gain speed 3-4 seconds FaSteR
Would literally just be shit out of luck and just die to MiGs
How did you get that amount of fuel?
I tried buying it but entered the wrong account information and lost $80, this happened twice and im unfortunately still F2P. Im never buying another premium again.
Contact Gaijin support. Provide them with the card information u paid with and the account information you accidentally bought it for if you remember, as well as the account you intended to buy it for.
way I see it why do you need the extra performance if u dont have a gun?
Same thinking from me
Does this have the lead indicator for it's guns? Can't figure it out in test drive
no
Imho at the state of the game you shouldn't buy anything... only premium time.
For everyone who thinks it’s just $70 it’s not you’re going to have to pay $5.06 for tax
Wether you should buy it or not depends on if it has AiM-9Ls. Does it?
No.
That’s the answer, but still watch the 10 minutes of soothing gameplay and comment skill issue at the end :) love your vids Seek
I mean the 9H isn’t vastly different from the 9L these days since the 9L got the flare resistance nerf. The only big noticeable difference is close range pull. Thanks :)
You do it wrong that why, you need to put him in to radar and after lock him before you shot!
I did same before but now its all good!
Is the f4s better than the f5c
It won’t let me buy this on console does anyone know why?!?
remember when premiums were op and p2w? good times
F4s is just carbon copy of f4j but just heavier and turns slightly better i think buy it wont matter if it turns lil better. You get outclassed by any other toptier plane like mig23ml. So wont matter. Just a copy
Not quite a copy. It's slower and gets about the same loadout. The slightly better maneuvrability won't really matter that much when you get sniped by 27ERs
@@mase8832 better IR missile loadout.
Mig 23 ml turns better? The fuck?
I’d say I’d buy another games for $70
Guys either don’t buy premiums or buy the mig-23M!!!
how to make such a radar?
I’m gonna say yes buy it simply becasue I love killing them in my german mig29
When they get uptiered they suffer yep
@@explosivecommando9100 the way the match maker works rn is that 12.0 doesnt have its own lobbies you are always in a 11.3 lobby they just limit how many there are in the game
I bought it it was very worth it!
i love this guy
As a ps4 player its not availible
I can’t even play my F-4S. It got removed from my account for some reason a bunch of people are having this problem rn.
Yo me too I’m soo confused!
Nah don’t buy its not worth unless u don’t care bout grinding
What does "On the deck" mean?
as low altitude as possible
@@SeekerHead Thanks!
The F-4J has slats as well. They are the combat flaps, which can be deployed at pretty much any speed, kinda like the F-4E. This makes the F-4J turn pretty well actually. So if you have the F-4J just talisman that, I guess.
i know what you’re talking about but they’re not quite the same thing
Not at all the same
@@SeekerHead You are right, they are not the same thing. On the S they are maneuvering slats and on the J they deploy to have a lower stall speed. They can still be used in dogfights, though. Not saying the J will outperform the S but still better than nothing.
@@TheProfessionalDrift the F-4J's leading edge flaps make it turn WORSE at high speed.
@@jaek_898 is that just a bruh moment or is it actually realistic?
love the vids homie
WTF !!!
you pay MORE then DCS and you have LESS or HALF of things
ROFL
No, and I havnt watched the video yet 😅 no one should have to pay £70 for a bloody plane on a game!
Short answer: No.
I can buy it for 30 Dollar if someone wants
TLDR: NO!
front fight missile plane is so shit now as soon as enemy start notching , going on the side and so on . i think a plane must not be on 11.3 (maybe even at 11.0) not having a single all aspect. Oh im a J7d ! i have pl5 ! it a matra ! oh but its rear aspect , i must stay behinde mig 29 to kill him on my powerfull chinese mig 21 yeeey. Oh w8 ... is that an r 27 ?? oh well ill just doge it .. what you mean i cant do that fast enough ? ... oh well i better buy than lazur M . . . i sure have all aspect and will kill all ! oh wow its good , im fster than j7d , and all aspect ? ah here is another r27... ah and a 9L on my side ... oh well i go buy mirage 200 than , Must be a good one . Oh no......
Does the F4S get a radar gunsight?
no
Paying $70 for a Chunder premium when cheaper will get you a full fidelity DCS module with multiple airframes. Sheesh lol
not everybody enjoys DCS
@@SeekerHead I can’t imagine enjoying this suffering/greed/lack of care for the player anymore. But that is true
As many issues as the game has, I much prefer it over dcs. I can just get on, select air rb, and play with mouse and keyboard
@@chameran3591 this is absolutely valid. Still doesn’t excuse Gaijin selling aircraft with minimal work done to them for prices higher than full fidelity DCS modules. They’d should cost half as much
@@jordanharvey5739 I agree, all they need to do is decrease premium cost and focus on game modes and not just “changes” they think will do good. It’s so bad to grind rn in top tier I don’t like it
No.
Aren't you like burned out and don't want to make videos?
patch season boyyy
Warthunders missiles are terrible and unrealistic, and have always been.
they’re really not that unrealistic
@@SeekerHead they're pretty terrible. I've seen missiles pull harder than they possibly can to track flares that are way off their seeker.
