Great idea ,I know I did similar in our old transit RIP died to RUST 😢, had a shelf above back double bed ,great for storing bedding/ boys bunk bed until Wife-Samantha said Arthur to heavy for this , So pulled it out looked at front seats slid across ,cut a hole for gearstick ,two storage boxes two cushions to steady ( did not think of straps,) silver screens around front screens ,forgot 4 camping mat glued together made nice mactress ,similar idea ,KEEP up 5he great work. watching from North Devon.
Did very similar when my lad got to heavy for our overhead bunk in the back of our old transit,he got to heavy & it made unerring noises above the Mrs head ,so pull it out & slid across front seats , cut hole for gear stick supported by boxes& cushions, the lad loved his own cabin & we slid it back had room to store all bedding , Great VLOG ,just hit the bell 🔔 for ideas on our new build Renault lwb, taken ideas to do holding straps on ours . Keep on , stay safe & well. ☮️❤️👍
very clever and well executed. imagining this with seats that are swivelled back and some mechanism to create a clone, above, a second bunk bed, thats fixed to the headrests. Thankyou Bowley Bus.
I just bought a patio lounge chair cushion to put on my front van seat for sleeping, as I am not a carpenter. It actually is very comfy. But you did a fantastic job!
what a good job and a good idea, also looks really good, greetings from Bulgaria from a Dane who lives here, I have exactly the same car and think I will do the same when I drive back to visit friends in Denmark on holiday, I sit on the other side and drive, but it all just has to be done the same way, just the other way around.
Nice one, I'm thinking of doing the same for our 19 month old. My idea is to have a plywood moulded base like your but with two additional flaps on piano hinges that fold down and act as legs in the foot well of either side. I'm also thinking of adding some aluminium tube that snaps in and out of the plywood base but to go across the gap between the two seats that leads to the rear of the van so our kid can't roll out / escape at night lol. When not in use I will lay the plywood base under our queen mattress and maybe buy a kids inflatable mattress to lay on top of the plywood base. Hopefully that makes sense? Thanks for the inspiration and motivation to hurry up and do it!

Thank you, we have a garage area underneath our bed at the back of the van. I plan to make a little drop down shelf so that it can be easily stored without anything getting in it's way. I'll be making another video about the storage of it soon.
This is a great idea, ive got the same van and my daughter getting a little too big for her bed in the back. Out of curiosity would you ever sell these? Great vid👌
Their is a product called “Cabbunk” which attaches to the front seats once they have swivelled around, which provides for Two 170 Kilogram capacity Children’s Bunk Beds (or just One Bed if you prefer).
Yes I have seen a couple companies make a bunk bed system. Most seem to rely on having swivel seats at the front which we didn't want to do in this build.
I absolutely love this. Can i ask, you used 12mm for the base? Would 9mm work? Where did you get your ply from? Also, what kind of hinge did you use? Thanks.
Thanks, I think 9mm would be too thin personally. I just got a sheet of ply from B and Q. Then some basic hinges from screwfix I think. Had to use washers so the screws wouldn't poke out the otherside. 👍
@@paulontour2 I can't quite remember where I got them from. I just bought a pack of rachet straps that had hook ends. I seem to remember having to pay more for black ones.
Thanks. I just bought a pack of 4 ratchet straps from screwfix for the hooks and the fabric was from a company called Haaris Imaan on ebay. Fabric is called Graphite upholstery fabric. 👍
Thank you, yes it easily holds an adults weight. Majority of the weight is on the seats, but it maybe a little short for an adult. I can lay down on it and I'm 5'9, if I pop the pillow up on the window slightly then I can stretch out.
Hi Simon, Sorry for the delay, we were away in the van! I jus searched for black ratchet straps and found ones with hooks. The music on your b roll is too loud compared to the volume of the narrated segments. This causes people to click off of your vdeos and not watch until the end. I like your content, this is just a comment on your production. Thanks for sharing this, it is much appreciated.
Nice to get your lad helping you. Very sweet
Thanks for sharing! Great idea 🙏🏼

Thank you, very kind!

I like your design and will try something similar. Thanks for the video

Or maybe just some of that cargo netting to go across the seats and fill the gap instead of aluminium tube?
Super Thanks
In lieu of me finding a partioned bench seat that can do what I'd like I may just copy this. Thanks.
Nice idea.
Great video.

You should sell these

Its not 170 kg, its 70 kg, and if you don't have both front seats swivel, the carrbunks will not work, also $$$

I'd buy one of these. Get them made to order with dimensions of cab and charge 1k+ for em custom hand made, bespoke n all that jazz
I like it but where does it get stored?
We store it under our bed at the back of the van.
Awesome job! Please any idea where I can get one of these made for a Ducato front cab?
Sorry, not surewhere you might be able to get one made.

Thank you, yes it easily holds an adults weight. Majority of the weight is on the seats, but it maybe a little short for an adult. I can lay down on it and I'm 5'9, if I pop the pillow up on the window slightly then I can stretch out.

Maybe cover steering wheel so your feet don’t trigger the horn when you turn over in your sleep.
Yes at the moment his feet don't reach down that far, but something to think about in the future when he is a little taller.
We disconnect ours under the bonnet clip on and off easy job!
Would you be able to send me a template of the bed? My daughter now wants her ‘own room’ in our camper.. many thanks if possible..
