Imagine is you could file a claim on your auto insurance when your car is 10 years old with 250K miles on it when you get a rock fling up against it and putting a small dent in the hood and having the insurance carrier pay you for a brand new car... This is exactly what is happening with property insurance....... It is a complete and total SCAM!

Personal experience with my insurance company tells me that they low ball the claim or deny it totally. After 2004 Charlie made a direct hit on my home, 2 trees smashed through the roof, the first State Farm adjuster said the damage was about 17K.......that seemed way too low so I asked for another adjuster to come out. Husband and wife team, Iowa farmers that went around the country to storm damage sites for State Farm, when they looked at the first adjuster amount and then saw my house, they apologized in kind and they new amount went up to 34K, the proper amount to repair my home. So, I am hearing about all this roof fraud and yeah, it happens, but when a claim is valid, the insurance companies need to pay up and this will reduce the added huge cost of litigation.......IMO.....These were both State Farm authorized adjusters , how could they be so far off????

Roofing scams are a problem . But the bigger issue for Insurance companies is the massive growth that's taken place along Florida's Coastlines . And instead of Homes being worth $150,000.00 , now their Value is 3 times that or more . All it will take is a Cat 4 or 5 Hurricane to hit a Coastal Area such as Tampa or Miami ? And you & your Insurance Company will be in some very deep doo doo .

Ironic that the insurance company don't get in trouble for not paying out on certain real problems that occurred due to storms and stuff like that they cut costs and try to lowball the homeowners specifically the lower income and yes still charged in the higher prices absolutely appalling. And then all the ones that are committing insurance fraud are reaping the rewards why the ones who pay and have no claims they get charged more money appalling Insurance scams running in circles this is disgusting from the insurance people who commit crimes to the people who commit insurance fraud. Makes people not want to have insurance probably better just to save your money and insure yourself

Insurance in general is the legal way in the US to rip people off. I know someone who owns an insurance company. It cost him $72 per month to insure my home and both my autos. He then showed me an average cost from the competition of what they would charge me per month and then it gives him what he should charge me which the cheapest is $3900 annually. So doing the math it actually cost $864 annually for the policy but insurance companies are allowed to inflate resulting in a $3,036 annual profit. I have no claims, tickets or accidents. Now consider this insurance guy has 5300 customers at this 1 single insurance company, has super nice cars and multiple homes not to mention the guy is always traveling. If he has 5300 customers like me then his annual profits are over $16 million at this 1 single office and this guy has 8 offices. I have to play it off with the guy cause he is a nice guy and sort of like family to us but holy crap this is insanity for companies to profit like that.

This is a disappointingly skewed explanation of the causes of homeowner insurance rate increases. There are other factors that weren't even mentioned, like increased cost of materials, increased frequency and intensity of disasters, and the increasing cost of re-insurance (the insurance that insurance companies need to make sure they have sufficient funding to cover losses). Re-insurance that carriers pay accounts for about 50% of the cost of homeowner's insurance in Florida. It creates a false narrative to leave out these important details.

People are so gullible. Here you have an attorney stating he makes "no more than the roof", that is double the cost, but everyone believes carriers are the problem. This is abuse of the legal system not the cost of a roof that is a problem. Judges are saying it, not just carriers. Attorneys make a point of adding delays to beef up their fees. He is ignoring the fact that the current situation is unique to FL. Florida has less than 10% of total claims yet has 78% of all property suits filed nationwide, to give it perspective. Thirty years ago attorneys would not take property claims because there was no money in it, now look. Cap attorney fees for insurance proceeds, ACV coverage is NOT the answer.

Roofers are pushy, full of crap, and crooked... that's not exclusive to Florida. Florida's republican government has added to the burden though. We get hail and that's like ringing the dinner bell for contractors. One roofer wanted me to sign something and it said that even if I changed my mind and didn't go with him, I still had to pay him and he said he was good at getting extra money from the insurance. Why would I want him to get EXTRA money? I decided to lie to him and tell him I had to talk it over with my (nonexistent) boyfriend .. you know big man makes the decisions and woman just goes along with it... I figured he'd accept that and he did. i quit answering the door or the phone.

Only it was someone that came and cut a tree down in our backyard. My husband called them to see what they would charge, but never hired them. He was at work, and they showed up at my door saying they were there to cut down our tree. I didn't know my husband never hired them. So I showed them the tree and they took it down. I wrote them out a check and the guy wanted me to make it out to him personally, and I did. He knew axactly what he was doing. When my husband came home he was mad. He said he never hired them and the guy wanted the check made out to him personally so he could run to the bank and cash it. If I had made it out to the business he would have had to deposit it and wait 3 days to draw from it. Then my husband could have put a stop payment on the check.
