- King Charles III has delivered the King's Speech at the State Opening of Parliament, in London.
In a speech written by the newly-elected Labour government, the King announced draft laws including plans on nationalising the railways, renewable energy, housing and planning.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the plans will "take the brakes off Britain”.

Disclaimer, these speeches are written by the Government, not the King
The king looks very uncomfortable - is it the weight of the crown? Is it the speech he has to give, does he agree with what he has to say? He sounds rather bored...
The Imperial State Crown weighs roughly 1.30KG. I don't think it is that heavy for him, nor do I think that the speech itself makes him uncomfortable, even if he personally might not like some things in it. I think that it is his cancer that makes him be in pain and look uncomfortable. Can I just say that I really pity him. He started his "job" when most people of his age are retired for about 10 years. He couldn't do what he wished when he was young, and now is an old ass man with cancer. He had a marriage arranged on him when he clearly loved someone else, had to go through the pain of seeing his children lose their mother. Let's just hope that "William V" will be able to carry his plans on.
He has look that a lot of our politicians do when they vote for something nobody wants and they said they wouldn’t. That look of being a sell out. Either by being bribed or blackmailed. I’ve seen that look a lot lately

It costs British taxpayers many millions every year for Charles, Camilla, William, and Kate to play dress up, ride in a gold coach, wave, read a speech written by a government employee or public relations expert, etc. The money would be much better spent on the National Health Service, education, housing, and defense.
It’s time for this archaic charade to be phased out. These theatrics are so trivial in the grand scheme
No it doesn’t, the Royal Family do a lot of good, they do far more then what you have said, of course we could have leaders like Biden or Putin.
Almost all the cost is generated by the Crown Estates, which has given the government £3 billion over the last decade, for public spending.
I am convinced 99% of anti royal sentiment is envy.
Rishi Sunak has nearly double the wealth, should we strip his assets first?
Finally, the gold coach fallacy, the Gold State Coach cost £7,562 and was built in 1762. They don’t scrap it and build a new one every time.
The other coaches have been gifted from other countries, part of strengthening international relations.

All the income from the Crown Estates
(property owned by the monarch) is given,
voluntarily, to the UK government. It's several hundred million. 15-25% (usually 15%, but currently 25% to pay for restoration of Buckingham Palace which is falling apart) of it is given back to the Royal Family as the "Sovereign Grant". In 2021-22 the grant was £86million, and so we can see that if that was 25%, the government kept £258 million, amounting to a tax rate of 75%. There is some private income from land owned by the Duchy of Lancaster, and the Duchy of Cornwall, and the Royal Family voluntarily pays income tax on this, so under UK tax rates they keep less than half of that.
The monarch used to be exempt from tax, but The Queen decided to pay just because that was the kind of person she was. A rough estimate is that they get to spend less than 5% of their total income, making them the most highly taxed people in the country. What they give to the country in a single year would pay for many coronations. Consider how much money they bring in from abroad in the form of tourism. That's estimated to be in the billions, keeping the travel industry, hotels, restaurants, taxis etc very busy.

really James WHAT is being privatised?
@@samuelhefford497 It was generous of you Samuel to try and interpret James's odd comment.. I think he just got the wrong end of the stick since privatised is the opposite of what the speech referred to. I don't think it meant publicised.. that just means they make the information public. Public ownership should equate to nationalisation which is what the people want to get back to. It worked very well for the people, until greedy politicians realised they could profit by privatising everything.... Post Office, Railways etc etc. and the wretched tories were going for the NHS next. I don't know which govt. it was who did all the privatising but I can take a pretty good guess.
