Excellent video. I have my lab pup (11 months old now) pretty reliably stopping to a whistle blast and looking to me, but never included the sit part. I have to use hand signals or voice (if close enough for him too hear). 2 pips on the whistle for a great recall. Got to learn how to move onto the next whistle based commands now.
Yes we will look to do this! I struggled with drive with the dog shown in this video. Best bit of advice to get started it don’t worry about your steadiness while building drive, and don’t do too many retrieves in a session. Stick to a max of 4 in a day
Hello - just found your channel and so happy to see a toller in UK gun dog training videos. That never happens! Where are you based? I’ve just got mine stopping on the whistle on the way out to a retrieve so I can cast in another direction. Never thought we’d get there. Would love to meet others doing the same. Thanks for showcasing them and your training!
We are based in Warrington, Cheshire. Stop whistle away whistle is for certain the most tricky to nail but once you have it there is so many fun exercises you can do!!
Couple of points. This is a gundog breed which shows your lack of knowledge. There is also nothing wrong with treat rewards if that suits your dog for praise, the thinking that it isn’t ok to reward a gundog with treats is outdated and nonsense. Our dogs still work for us when there is no treats on offer too. Also there is no reason someone couldn’t do gundog work with a dog that isn’t a gundog (which this dog is) Dog training is for all, whether you want to work your dog, complete in tests & trials or just enjoy training. There is no need for this sort of negative input.
Great video, nicely broken down into the different stages & well presented. 👏👏👏👏

Nice.
The International Emergency Signal of Distress is- three of anything, whistles, blasts, fires etc. I use four or five toots of the whistle for recall.
Your videos are fantastic. Could you do one on drive building exercises? My dog needs a kick start and I am nit sure how to do this thanks
