.380's are really fun to shoot... In the right gun. I've got a couple mouse guns that are just about any and everything but fun. This would be a nice little EDC or "church gun". Maybe even tuck it in the utility draw in the kitchen. For the price it's just about unbeatable. Great job GB and Teya.

Great video, thank you. I was on the fence about the SCCY .380 but not after this. I personally don't mind a CCW with a safety and I think what you did by verbally reminding yourself "safety on", "safety off", is a great way to train until it becomes reflex.

SCCY's FAQ specifically says "Most name-brand brass cased ammo can be used. Do not use Steel Cased, Aluminum Cased, or reloads. Standard grain (bullet weight): 115 and 124, and 147 in Gen 2"

Looks to have an improved shorter safety lever. I had a first generation 9mm that the safety would occasionally get bumped on in recoil. This was before they added the shelf below the safety to prevent that issue. I also lost the front sight during shooting. Called SCCY and they mailed me a new sight no problem in a timely manner. They seem to have pretty good customer service. Want to check out the new red dot pistols when they hit the market.

I have a S&W bodyguard 380 and it's a pleasure to pocket carry, but it's no fun to shoot at the range. It's dead on accurate, but it is snappy as hell. Since I do own a Ruger LCR 9mm revolver, I would say that the long heavy trigger pull is more like a revolver for guns like the SCCY CPX series and the Bodyguard 380. If you have gotten used to striker fired guns and you compare these hammer fired guns to them, you aren't going to like the long pull trigger. However, if you put in the time and train yourself to become used to the trigger you can shoot nice tight groups.

I think this is a cool little gun, *especially* @ $150 or so, otd.
Still, tho, if Im gonna CC a .380, think I'll stick with my Bersa Thunder. Has more bells & whistles, looks 'PPK-esque' lol, and has been uber reliable over 20 years of carry and range-time.

@@realQuestion Depends on your priorities, really.
I love my Thunder's reliability, of course. But, I also love the safety/de-cocker, the mag-disconnect, the auto-chamber feature (when you slam a mag hard enough, the gun chambers a round, & yes, *its a feature* -- and it does "get you back into action faster" with training.)
The low price is definitely a plus, and the fact that it breaks down simply like a PPK/Makarov (blowback).
Also, its a very concealable little gun--there may be smaller & lighter .380s, these days. But the Thunder still hides pretty well, all things considered, especially with a good holster.
The flip side of all that, though, is that there are some people who can't live with some, or all of those features.
I don't understand it, but ok... lol

@@mikee3997 the CPX is a bit chunkier, not in a bad way though! I use the IWB " sticky holster", and if I were to add a padding of cloth in the bottom where the muzzle fits that would probably work. I did not have a specific holster for the LCP 2! Recoil is much lighter on the CPX 3. The trigger is a bit long however very smooth, and with only a few rounds through it, I was used to it. Unlike the Ruger, I did a lot more research on this pistol, than I did on the LCP! I would estimate the muzzle flip on the Ruger would be at about 2 inches, or more, on the SCCY, about 1 inch. Accuracy very good!

I reached out to Lakeline and also Dawson Precision to see if they'd be interested in developing better sights for the SCCY guns...they both responded that they'd look into it but I'm doubtful it'll go anywhere. It's a shame really, I know they're cheap but a good set of sights, even night sights, could make it even better. People will pay $500+ for any other gun and not blink about adding $175 night sights, but pay

@TOM ARCHER the companies that I reached out to, mentioned in my comment, never made the sights. They both responded that they would look into it and thats as fas as it ever went. I sold my CPX2 so I never pursued it. The new SCCY, the striker fired DVG-1, uses a Glock front and rear sight...if you can ever find a DVG-1 in stock at a gun store.

My wife bought a CPX-4 and one thing I noticed with her pistol is that it throws brass from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock position with a couple pieces of brass hitting her in the face. She did experience a couple of failure to feeds and failure to ejects. This .380 is fun to shoot and very easy to rack. My wife also has the Walther PK380 and she likes her SCCY CPX-4 better.

They have listed the trigger kit for the SCCY CPX-3 (same as CPX-4) for months as out of stock. The CPX-1 & CPX-2 are 9mm and aren't the same as the one for the CPX-3. I have contacted them a few times over the last several months and they have not been able to provide any estimated time when they would actually have them for sale. I want the CPX-4 for its safety, but would love to put a lighter trigger in it, still waiting for it to happen. Galloway has a spring kit and also a trigger kit, however they cost a fair amount more.

I had a hard time with the CPX-1 (as I mentioned in a prior thread) because the recoil was too harsh and the slide was so difficult to rack that I could barely manipulate it to view the chamber and most certainly couldn't rack it all the way back to chamber a round or disassemble it. I watched Armed and Feminine's review of the CPX-3 (I watch her channel fairly regularly) and from what I recall most of the women in that video who shot it said it was a decent pistol and Kelly herself specifically said she found it easy to rack, which caught my attention. Is the CPX-3 or CPX-4 worth considering for someone who may be considering a budget option that is easy to use?

I'm not a big safety fan...my wife on the other hand (a more rookie shooter) enjoys safeties. That being said I decided to buy us cheap SCCY guns...thought it was going to be a CPX1 for her and a CPX2 for me, but after handling them in person, with the heavy and long trigger pull even she passed on the safety version. I now wish I would have gotten her the .380 version with the CPX3, as the 9mm recoil spring is a bit heavy and recoil is a little stout. I shoot a lot so I don't really notice or care, but definitely notices. I did install ribber Talon grips on both, as the plastic grip doesn't offer much traction.

    • @scotteger6271
      @scotteger6271 3 года назад

@TOM ARCHER everything I wrote is English sir...if you can understand it that's a shame. It's pretty easy to understand...take a moment and re-read it...the post is regarding the CPX1 with a manual safety, vs the CPX2 without. The CPX2 had a heavy trigger, which was enough of a safety for my wife to be satisfied, without having an external safety lever.
Additionally, I also mentioned that the recoil from the lightweight 9mm is quite snappy and wish I would have purchased the .380acp CPX3 for my wife.

Some of them can, but in exchange for a little more snap. Heavier loads tend to push a little more in recoil, but it's all very subjective and relates to the velocity created. Even the same load can feel different in guns with different barrel lengths and overall weights. I know this isn't a definitive answer, but I don't think there is one.
