  • Rust bases come in ALL shapes and sizes. Today we find out if building SMART is better than just making it BIG. I have recruited two 9000 hours Rust gamers to construct two VERY different bases, then my team of capable raiders with over 25,000 hours will put their structures to the test. Enjoy!
    What is Rust? Rust is an INTENSE PVP multiplayer survival game that I've played for THOUSANDS of hours. I've gone on MASSIVE Solo adventures, clan wipes, HUGE raids and just about every experience under the Sun. It's a game that can have the most intense nail biting moments, or you can spend hours doing nothing interesting, The way the cookie crumbles can never be predicted and of course I save the absolute best bits for you guys. Whether it's PvP moments, epic counter raids or my clan messing with each other, everything you need to experience Rust is right here on the Max Mears channel. I hope you enjoy, peace.
    Thanks for watching, and as always, have fun guys!

    I get the argument against bunkers but I really feel like they’re not that broken as not many people use them and big groups have enough boom to flatten your base so removing them would only be nerfing the solos mostly and it’s hard enough as it is to play solo so I feel like we shouldn’t be nerfing solos anymore

      Yeah I fully agree. I get why streamers are against bunkers since they always play in groups and/or can be online 24/7 but for solos and people with jobs bunkers are the only way to give a chance of keeping your loot for ONE night. :) Like the guy who play 10+ zerg...well they are the reason why bunkers exists. xD

      If AIT got to build one of his bases there's no way a team of 4 like these dudes would be able to handle it, imo. They were way too disorganized and careless with things.Lol
      They were literally shooting different walls, ignoring each others calls, wasting time arguing, etc.
      The only thing that would stop AIT is if he ran out of time trying to build/upgrade everything to his usual specifications or if you used a larger group with a lot of hours playing with each other.

    from what I understand, old rust bases were strong and expensive mostly because the tc upkeep worked differently, although todays bases are based on cost for efficiency which leads for cutting on actual raid cost for better peaks. at the end of the day it doesn't matter if you have a big, small, tanky or cheap base, what matters is how you use your base. while playing a wipe you get used to the layout of your base that helps you with the raid defence.

    • @kghhansenn
      @kghhansenn 4 месяца назад

    • @avery1349
      @avery1349 2 месяца назад

      The best builders can actually make all 3 work in tandem though, using highly complex separated shells with cheap honeycombing split onto different tcs, made up of an interaction of floorstackes halfgaps, freehand gaps, and widegaps. Layer this with specific build techniques like functional honeycomb window lootable rooms and pixel gaps, vending machine tricks, and you can make highly efficient hefty raid cost bases with top tier peaks

    • @avery1349
      @avery1349 2 месяца назад

      Understanding how your footprint will influence all of this is also super important, because great forethought can let you set up things like internal floating double ramp peeks that still barrier entry, work as retakes, and will influence what you can do while maintaining strong base mobility

    I have 4k hours, but consider myself a master builder at this point since that’s my favorite part of the game. I only build solo bases since I only solo. I want to say that it is possible to build a “large” cheap solo base if you know what you’re doing. My main base that I’ve been using for a year now costs almost 28k metal, 13k stone, and 450ish hqm. Upkeep is 800 stone, 3200 metal, and 45 ish hqm. That includes everything and I mean everything in the base other than the 6 auto turrets. The base looks like your typical group base with an inner and outer core. There are inside and outside peaks, full auto turret coverage in peaks and roof, in base oil refinery, enough room to fit 6 mixing tables, all 3 workbenches, at least 9 small furnaces for charcoal and 15 electric furnaces (not that I need it, usually just have 9 which is equivalent to 3 large furnaces which is overkill already for a solo), 2 bedrooms, and enough loot space to fit roughly 25 large boxes and a bunch of small ones (basically I’ve never utilized more than half of the available loot space even when insanely loaded). I took me years and many iterations to finally get to this point. Oh also, the base is a minimum 31 rockets, but more realistically it’s in the low 40s depending on the raid path and it’s an easy rebuild. I’ve been able to continue wipe multiple times after being raided early on (never been successfully raided when base has been completed).
    Edit: As a solo, bunkers are necessary. I wouldn’t be able to play this game without them since I’d be getting offlined all the time. Usually it’s group/clan players that hate bunckers because they’re the ones raiding solos with bunkers.

    I believe that this video is a great comparison between compact bases and larger bases. Although, due to the fact that both builders had the same materials and time, the attackers should have had the same amount of rockets, the additional 35 rockets provided to the attackers while raiding that base gave them an advantage against that base, it was meant to withstand blows while not needing to be overly defended. This caused the base to be better protected against offline raids. Meanwhile, the smaller more compact base built around honeycomb and online defending, had a clear design choice that proved to be disadventagous. With all that in mind i believe that the attackers should have been supplied the same amount of rockets during both raids, the clear design choices made it clear who was the surperior builder while trying to protect from an online raid.
    In short, both designs were intentional and even though both builders were supplied an equal amount of supplies, the builder of the larger base reigns surperior due to his awarness of how much the resources at hand could protect him.

    5:10 the easiest way to place it the way you're describing is to place the shelf first, then flip the tc sideways and back up to the fifth square (assuming stone foundation) and place it while pressing against the wall. You have to wiggle it around a bit, but it locks in pretty quick

  • @OV_DD
    @OV_DD 4 месяца назад +1

    im someone who has played solo, all the way up to 14 man, from experience i will say it is so easy finding tc in large clan bases, even if they have 5 layers of walla you know it will be profit so you pummel straight through and get all their loot. The reason smaller smarter bases are better are because although you might spend the same amount of boom or less you will be taken through an unexpected route, smaller bases have a way of being bafflingly expensive especially with bunkers and such

  • @arek1366
    @arek1366 5 месяцев назад

    For people who don't know how to fix the shelf problem that Max had at 3:34 what you need to do is "i know it works with vanilla build skin of stone" that you stand like the builder stood and flip the walls behind and to the side of the TC to hard side then place it as close too the corner and flip the walls back, reason for this is because the soft side of the walls are thicker then the hard side.
    now if you placed the TC right the shelf should be able too be placed

      IMO I think raiders are used to patterns. The problem with symmetrical bases is that raiders can make an educated guess and if they're lucky they get it right. Just make a wide and tall base with no symmetrical pattern to it and raiders wont be able to guess where TC is. As long as someone is online it'll be loads harder than a regular raid for most people.

      The main difference between both raids was confusion. In the first raid they were certain they knew where to go and they were better at PvP than the first builder. This kept them focused and communicated. In the second raid they were beyond confused by the "stupidity" of what they are seeing which the builder then utilised to mow them down, causing the Raiders to panic and lose all semblance of communication... Also for some reason they had much less teamwork at the start. In the the first raid they focused single targets with rockets but in the second raid they kept rocketing different things... I don't think the test was effective for base design but it showed that the best raid defence is confusion.

  • @Night_Hawk_475
    @Night_Hawk_475 3 месяца назад

    Awesome video man!
    I think a really cool way to modify these base building/raiding challenges would be if the base builders were required to also find a location to place a pair of storage containers with useful raiding supplies (that you fill them with as part of raider's supplies, in addition to their initial starting supplies) that the raiders can make use of. (the defender cannot pull items from these designated chests ever, and the two containers and the TC all must be on three different floors - to force everything to be spread out -- maybe a 3rd container that can optionally also be on the TC floor so that the raider's can't infer what floor the TC is on by the location of the containers...?)
    By doing this it allows you to give the raiders less supplies at the start, and they have a way to resupply mid-raid.(But they have to earn it!)
    (And no special rules about loot extraction or anything, just like it would be in vanilla if the defender can stop them by killing them then they don't automatically get loot added to their supply/FOB or anything, it'll just be left on the ground with their bodies (perhaps then available to the defender to take too?)
    This would allow there to be plenty of rockets, but perhaps the raiders are only given like 30ish to start with, if they're lucky it's enough to go straigh to TC, but mostly it'll be enough to get in to obtain some extra loot after finding a chest inside the base, allowing them to use rockets to get further into the base after they earn it.
    (effectively, these chests give you more options when choosing how to supply the raiders, allowing you to not have to give them all their supplies upfront)

    • @Bugahud
      @Bugahud 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@KiTho06 Well, I think bunkers altogether are fine. It is a way to add raid-cost to your base without doing much effort, should we remove honeycomb just because people think that it makes a base harder to raid? Absolutely not. Also, some bunkers add alot of cost to bases build cost and upkeep. The cons and pro's even out. Bunkers sacrifice the space and movement room for a bigger base/team and that could let raiders get into the base a decent amount before the group even gets out. Also, in a big base, it typically won't matter if you have a bunker because most teams will pummel or go through walls. Why fix a very minor issue that greatly affects the game? Also if they messed with stability bunkers specifically it could ruin several building designs that don't even include bunkers. The state of the game is fine right now, especially since mainly groups will be spending that many rockets on a base and if a solo is raiding, there are serveral ways to avert from raiding a bunker base. Also solos can easily softside foundations to get into a bunker. The state of the game is fine right now, thats my opinion

    That one kid who keeps saying "I know this base" "100 percent a 2x1" "TC is on roof" he ain't no shit, clearly ain't a 5k hour player, most likely a bought account with the world's biggest ego.

    You should do a video with a duo of most and least amount of hours in building and PvP. I wanna see how the raiding and defense is.

    You may not like bunkers, but a lot of us have jobs and lives and can't be sweaty constantly on rust.
    It allows us to play past the first couple days because the investment for most raiders isn't worth it.

    Hey could you do another one dedicated to small medium and large or something like that also could you stay on a team with the defender always since it's a lot easier to see the attackers than the defenders

    Tbh if this was my team we would’ve cargo fobbed both bases and just counted down to start rocketing and go for the middle/compound and just kept drilling in and half of us would be focused on shooting floor and the rest keep drilling to the core

    Do a series which requires a wheel.
    You would spin it first for the amount materials you have and what materials like wood stone sheet and hqm and then like how long they have to build it which would range from 10 mins to 1 hour 30
    Then like how many doors they have so on

    I have to say as someone with a fair few hrs who works I think bunkers are a good thing I can't be on at all times and no offence to anyone but pop a ore tea won't take 2 secs to farm enough sulf to get a nice supply of boom. Obvs I love bunkers and only thing I ever build but if people are gonna offline then bunkers should be allowed. No one these days has the balls to online

    The bigger the better, the more chunks to remove the more time you got. although you gotta have the team willing to work for the upkeep. small well layered works, however in the end you'll loose vs that zerg that doesn't care and zero's your base anyway.

  • @thepiperpie

    i think if the builders had more time and actually completed their bases, this would be more interesting, it was fun, but it was clear both stopped building at like 80% complete, and both bases had major pieces missing
