And stacking the subs in the centre of the stage would create HUGE quantities of low end feedback, and overpower the monitors and shake everything!
The beauty of the array is that below it, the bass is cancelled out, so no stage booming bass problems!

@mindstormsabrewin The probem with 360 shows is: You want good sub coverage in the entire arena without (many) phase issues. Good sub coverage = many sub's. But multiple sub's spread throughout the room create's phase issues. So you need one single source of low end energy = a sub array.
A sub array on the ground is possible. But when you are creating so much low end energy under the stage, you're ending up with a very bumpy stage. And if it can't go on the ground, you need to fly the array.

Does anyone know what song big mick plays by infected mushroom?

They should have done that with Sensation Black. They have a whole ring of line arrays in a centre circular PA. I think they were just boxes at the top of each line array for subs. You'd need a pretty good delay module to handle the J Array boxes 40 feet in front of the subs. My driverack only goes to 10 ft, guess I'd have to just settle for getting the crossover freq in phase for the most seats in the room.

I'm wondering if you time delay each block of 4 double 18s by about 0.5-1ms (depending on angle) as you move down the columns, whether you can steer the bass down so it acts like the column of subwoofers is tilted down towards you, but in all directions. You don't want to delay too much or the bass will be funneled onto the stage below (if the time delay is the height of the cabinet). I'm wondering where the other interference lobes will be.
In this case with balconies at the height of the subwoofer hang it was advantageous not to do this so extra bass could go to the balconies, but for a mostly floor audience, delaying so the subwoofers are lined up near the back (or middle if you want to minimise bass spill) to give more volume near the back of the room.
Also for a mostly floor audience, a splayed cluster hang of 6 Danley Sound Labs GH60 below the subwoofers to put even mids and highs everywhere on the floor except the stage below. (Danley Synergy Horns are noted to be one of the few boxes that splay at their coverage angles with minimal comb filtering/interference.)
For the balconies, some more horns firing straight out further up the sub column might work well.

I would DEFENITLY feel uncomfortable playing the drums knowing that I have 5 tons of subwoofers on top of me. And with those subwoofers moving and creating sonic destruction..it can fall in any given time and crush anything in its path. Thing is.....I would be lmao and love to see that happen but I dont want anybody hurt.

It's like watching the world trade centre come down. Part of you believes this is not really happening and tries to mask the tragedy by thinking funny thoughts about Jenga.
Using Barefaced LF1400 subwoofers would work as they are only 50 lbs each so you need 200 of them to equal 5 short tons. 80 of them would only weigh 4000lbs + custom flying hardware.

I wonder how well this would work with TH118s

Do the sound engineers have a Decibel Limit to make sure peoples' ears are not being destroyed? I have always been curious about this. Anybody know?

    • @conorm2524
      @conorm2524 3 года назад

Responsible engineers will limit themselves. Otherwise various countries have various noise limit laws in place.
Metallica and AC/DC are always loud though. That's their shtick.

Testing at that level is needed cause once the crowd comes in, their noise level alone will be 110 dB heh. You gotta fight with them to get the band louder!

And then just 5 years later they said 'fuck getting the best sound we can, lets have a pile of fucking moving video boxes flying about that no self respecting metal fan could give a fuck about, and thus we have to remove the only sub array design that has ever truly worked for in the round gigs'. Fun times.

@JBLgangsta In Gothenbourg this year you did not get bowelmovements you got your guts teared out...!
I think it was over 125 dB, they got penalty for the loudness.

@URallangry because a show is not about sound quality... at least not in the first place, it's about energy, and raw attitude, if you want to appreciate the sound quality you should put the album in your 7.1 system and that's it, or play in a auditorium, with everybody sitting down and listening carefuly... in the middle of a stadium or a field, with 100 000 people screaming and stuff, the subwoofers quality is the last thing that comes in mind

@mouloudo Erm no its not. A great sound is very essential or you wouldn't hear anything with any clarity or definition. Yes a show is about energy but if you can't hear the band there will be no energy.

Not bad, but it is very far, far, far away from the distorsionless transmission of sound. So this time say I have to: The concert sound quality around the tire world today is simply catastrophic! Well these gentlemen has to lean the Lenz-law first. The sound starts from mic up to the speaker drivers! There is no any unite/product on the market which upholds the strict demand of nature's law. Remember: the highest curt is nature! Therefore, state I have to: Much to learn they still have!
