Ahh baby Nightwish! 💕Tuomas, Emppu and Tarja were the first three, in that order. Then once Tuomas decided they were going in the heavy metal direction, because it suited Tarja's vocals better, they added Sami and Jukka. That line up is the original one. They all went to the same school, too :) It was very experimental in the beginning, Tarja's classical training and Tuomas' compositions both evolved around each other, I think they managed to blend it close to perfectly on their 4th album Century Child. Beauty of the Beast is an absolute highlight of that album! Tarja also started to sing in a softer and more contemporary style at that point. I enjoy all Nightwish eras, but there's a unique kind of magic with Tarja that's hard to replicate and I don't get from anyone else :) I love her voice!
Now this is Nightwish, the young, hungry original lineup. It's a former shell of itself writing music that sounds like something you would hear in a shopping mall or medication ad on TV.
No, that would be Polyphia - the trve kvlt elevator music.🤣 The H:N album sounds like complex pop, skillfully camouflaged as something bigger than what it actually is. And an abuse of an extremely talented singer, which she seems to be OK with for some reason. The second disk of the album is some generic, forgettable film/videogame soundtrack. The only thing remaining for Tuomas to be recognized worldwide as a trve genius is to record the next album in the frequency range above 20KHz, inaudible for the human ear, and call it "Mother Gaia's Deafening Silence." I'm sure there will be a lot of people praising it as the most ingenious thing ever.

But in the end, the best is always to go for the "From wishes to Eternity" concert from 2000, that looks really great, has some great songs ( "Swanheart" 😍😍) and for me as a Nightwish fan since 1998 that is what for todays kids is Wacken 2013.

Marko was not there yet. He basically made fun of the band for being too clean cut and short-haired when he first saw them. He once said his first impression of the band was that he “thought their music was quite good at times,” “but goddamn, they looked absolutely horrible on stage - short-haired guys just standing there.” “Honestly, I assumed them to be just a momentary fad and thought they will fade away after six months or so. Luckily, of course, I was so wrong.” He gave them a different look when he joined. Sami Vänskä was the first bass player, preceding Marko. It was however, Jukka Nevalainen on drums, the original drummer though it’s hard to recognize him. He remained the drummer until 2014.
While I love Marko era the most (with Jukka on drums), I have to say, that Marko exaggerated with that statement. They were pretty cool already by "From Wishes To Eternity".
@@NightwishArena yeah, he probably did exaggerate, as he said that well after he joined, doing it as a jab at his younger bandmates when he said it. But you gotta admit they didn’t really have the “rockstar look” working at this time.
@@kentk2215 it's great that Marko brought more of that rockstar-look on stage, but their hair was short because of their military service, and it took some time to grow of course. I'm sure they would have got more confident and animated even without Marko, he just sped it up. When you watch that From Wishes to Eternity DVD you will see, that even Tuomas jumps a side of his keyboard to headbang, and Emppu is already doing pretty much Emppu-stuff. So they were on that path already.
Not seen that before - I've only listened to the pre-Marko albums once or twice. I can see why when Marko first saw Nightwish he said they had no stage presence! The one that really surprised me was Jukka - he's so dynamic later on I thought that was just his natural way of playing, but here he's not developed that poised tiger presence at all.

Been a fan of nightwish for a while now. I personally prefer Floor Jansen. On a side note my buddy from Buffalo Mike Terrana has been playing drums for Tarja for a while now. Love the videos.
I still can't listen to the current Shakira-like singer, although After Forever sounded good. And her versatility doesn't help it, still too light and generic.

Been a fan since 2000. I personally prefer dark vocals and goth atmosphere over pop-rock. Therefore, I prefer Tarja.
