11 years later and this video is still a huge help. picked up the 32" version of the Trinitron WEGA and had gotten to the point of hitting the power button multiple times for it to work, only for the 9 blink LED to finally come along and end it. 30 minutes of work later and it works immediately.
literally just got a sony wega kv-32hs420a from my dad with a matching stand, for some retro gaming, he's been holding it for me for months, i was finally able to get it, it worked for literally 1 day and then i got the 7 blinks
Hey I really appreciate the fix. I was sceptical but it worked so far. We will see how long it lasts. Just wish I was given the remote. Don't think a universal will have all the detailed menu.
First of all, thanks for your feedback. Actually, the pix never came back. I have read some comments about heating up the board might get the pix back. It might may sense because last week it was pretty cold here. Usually, when I turn on the tv, red light blinks a few second, then in will hear a click then the pix is on. Not now. Btw, the tv is 11 yrs old. I never had any problem. As you said it is good to play game. How to check the AKB circuit? What is the G2/screen control? As you said I th
Just checked, the pix never blinks. I just want know if there is a way to separate the 3i issues you just mentioned. If it is the case that the tube is weak, then there is no need to fix. But the problem is that the tv die suddenly, no any early indication. Since I do not have the circuit schematic, it is very hard to debug and diagnose. Any comment will be very appreciated. I found it is fungo fix this kind of old tv.
I just finished this repair on a Sony KV-32FS320 and the TV turned back on perfectly. Thank you for this video. However, I noticed that the picture is just slight wider on the bottom of the screen. Can you give me instructions to fix the picture. Thanks again.
I have the 27 inch version for RetroGaming, mostly for NES, SNES, PS1, PS2 and Original XBOX My TV isn't perfect, I have a few geometry issues but I don't mind those that much! Did the Red push fix and some fixes on the SM and can't complain
If the picture slowly fades then most likely you have a CRT filament (heater) intermittent connection. Look at the orange glow in the end of the picture tube and see if it fades out. The CRT Filament (heater) is driven off of the flyback on most of these newer tv's. Check for bad connections.
If you dont get a relay click then Find D6301 on the sub power board and change it with the same as in the video and see if it helps. If you have a relay ckick then heat the MCZ3001DB ics on the deflection board and see if it starts.
I have one very similar to that, except it's the 32" model. It has some horizontal pin cushion issues(drooping) on the left side, which isn't something that can be adjusted in the service menu. Can the pin cushion can be adjusted mechanically, without replacing components?
I just picked up this model TV and didn't notice until lately it has a small jitter that goes up and down. it isn't bad just enough for me to notice. Is this common? my dad works on electronics such as copiers and old TVs so he know how to solder and the terminology unlike me.
Hi...I am having the same problem with my 51 inch Crt tube Sony Wega Tv. Will this procedure work with my very large heavy tv that I would not take in to repair because of it's weight. My Tv is one of the first HD tvs and I'm not ready to trash it either. Thank you Cindy. It also blinks 9 times
if the red light is always blinking and not blinking out a code then that means the pix tube is either not getting correct drive or the tube is weak. Sons have a curcuit (AKB) that will not release video till the tube guns are warmed up, all 3 of them so if one is weak or not getting the correct signal then the red just blinks. Was the pix blinking on and off when it was warming up before it went out completely? sometimes you can adjust the G2/screen control and get a pix back.
Very informational video! thanks I Have a Sony trinitron Wega kv-ar29m31 which will not turn on. Last time it turned on the picture was blue and scrambled, after turning it off, it never turned back on again. This was a few days ago and I tried several times since then. When the main power button is pressed in, The LED turns on as expected but when pressing the channel + button, or using the remote, it does not power on any more. The LED does not blink, which the service manual has no explanation for. Any suggestion on where to start troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated
my sony KV40XBR800 will shut down and blink 7 times , but you can power it back up sometimes with the remote . Sometimes it will shut down after 10 or 20 minutes and will shut off a few minutes afterwards . I heard that the Flyback is getting weak . Sony said in the service manual Horizontal defection stopped , I read on the internet its the flyback get a over voltage and shuting the set down . Whats your thought .
I have the same model but I get the 5 blinks. It does eventually turn on after a few minutes. I did the diagnosis display and it displayed 5: AKB 1. Do you have any info on this repair?
I have also a sony tv which from start the tv working fine but after 10 minutes of running it slowly faded the picture and washed out.Sir, can you give me an idea how to repair it? I took a basic electronic course. Is the fly back is bad or the tube?
hey dude!! I have the same TV i picked up in for 20bucks... but I have a problem with the sound, it just don't sound anything, but it keeps passing sound in the out put so Im guessin is not the Jungle is the amp... but after I change it, i need to check something else?? before I change it and avoid to stop working again, grettings from México
I think this could be what is wrong with my Sony trinitron wega, I have the KV27FS320 model and i get the cycle of 9 standby blinks then repeat with nothing else happening. Would everything internal be layed out the same in my set as in this video?.. Of course i have a Samsung 4k in the living room but my son and me use the spare bedroom as a Retro game room.. Nes, snes, Genesis ect. and these trinitron's are Perfect for this!! The crt picture on these sets for consoles are great. I have never opened up ANY tv but i would like to try and make the repair because these are beginning to be hard to find and rather expensive believe it or not for being the preferred sets for retro gaming.
watched your vid, "Sony CRT TV with 9 blinks KV-36FS120 36 32 FS 120 KV", My KV-32FS13 picture just went out after years of faithful service, I have sound. this video sounded like the problem Except my light blinks continually...no pause. I turned it on, black for 20 minutes or so, then picture appeared for 15 minutes or so then went out for good Any hope for it? I would love to try fixing it.
Sony made in japan hr29m91 model TV was working, it didn't have a problem, then I tried to turn it on, when it opens, 10 red lights flash, it gives an error and turns off, what do you think?
I have a Sony kv-36-35s66 with continuous blinking light on standby indicator, no picture but have sound. Any idea to fix it? Sounds like similar to your problem.
mine is a sony trinitron kv32s66 and the main pic is dim and hazy while the PIP is picture perfect , upon turn on you hear the sound and after a few seconds you get pic with the previous stated issue, any advice
I have a similar looking set its a KV-30HS510 the Standby blinks 6 times push power and the relay clicks but will not light the tube. Can I get a suggestion?
A couple of plastic clips on either side of the chassis and pull back to remove the chassis from the cabinet. You may have to un-plug some of the wiring, then you should be able to tip it up to gain access to the bottom of the board.
My 32" Sony KV-32V42 has sound but no picture and the red light blinks continuously nonstop. Sometimes if i unplug it and plug it back in I'll get half a picture with vibrating lines across the screen. Any idea?
i have CRT screen PHILIPS Model no 21PT2215/94 Problem is power supply is through but canot switch on high voltage, wha will be problem sir if u kindly help me sir.......... Thanks you,
9 Blinks is most likely the same diode in the power supply. with the back off, look for a board on the left side of the the tv. Its about 6X10 inches. Look for a small power transformer 1 1/2 inches square, look near the transformer for the same diode with the purple band just like in the video. Change it D6301 I think?
sir,i have a rca 32" 2006 model try to turn on relay clicks can here the crt power up but never comes on red light blinks 16 times or so but screen never lights up and no sound any thoughts what the problem can be I have heard that rca flyback are bad a lot of times thanks
I have the same excat television and i was wondering if you could tell me the default for the service menu because i believe the person that had it before me went in the service menu and messed everything up because the top left of my image is slanted downwards and also wavy as if the skew is messed up or something rather im watching tv or using my component cables to play my playstation 2. Thank you.
Wow, great info, Norcal1715. I fixed a 6-blink error and now I have a 3-blink code! Should I keep going? What is the fix? The TV is a SONY KV-36XBR800, FD Trinitron Wega. THANKS!
Please help I bought this tv of craiglist for 80 bucks but not im noticing weird colors around edges and the tube isnt straight and snes games don't look straight or stuff gets kind of cut off. Its slanted. Please I need your help.
I think you'll just need those magnetic image fixer things (whatever their called.... They're basically big rings of magic, per say XD) and, on the TV's own menu, try to find the sharpness/general adjustments and try to fix the unsteady picture that way. I believe you could possible reset the picture itself, too. Otherwise, try to find some more info if you can. Maybe if you look up the TV's manual, it may give out some decent advice itself.
Hi, I am from India and I have a SONY KV-XR29M50 CRT , a 29 inch TV. My TV shows 8 blinks and do not power up. The blinks continuously repeat. After few power ON attempts by remote, the TV comes UP with normal picture and sound. What could be the problem.

Thanks for the video.. but do you have any idea what to do to fix a 5 blink code error? It tries to start, once, but doesn't then gives 5 blink code. Any help would be great.
m0t1vz Sorry for the late reply.. I ended up fixing it myself. Give me some time to dig up the schematics I used to try and remember which diode I ended up replacing. No guarantee it will be the same one for you, but might help you get started.

This fixed mine. Thanks for taking the time to create this video to help people out. You're the man.
What a beautiful way to explain the execution of the procedure
1n4007 work as well plus u can pick them up at radioshack in the assortment kit thats what i use or just try resoldering the diode but it won't last

Don´t know much about electronics but a did your procedure in a KV-34FS120 and it´s working even when I had 4 blinks instead. Thanks for the video
so i bought the RL207 like you said they came in today and i soldered them in and my tv turned right on.THANK YOU SO MUCH

Giving this a shot today, any tips to remove old solder?
thanks ! that's why they stop making crt tv now.. too much labor and more parts needed
Pretty sure. I have seen it many times. You can use a 1n4001,4002,4003,or 4007 or simular available at radio shack
I have the 27 inch version for RetroGaming, mostly for NES, SNES, PS1, PS2 and Original XBOX

I have exactly the problem that you describe. I live in Ottawa Canada. Where can I get this monster fixed?
I'm want to do this repair on my T.V. but I was wondering. How do you take the main board out? What do you have to disconnect?
A couple of plastic clips on either side of the chassis and pull back to remove the chassis from the cabinet. You may have to un-plug some of the wiring, then you should be able to tip it up to gain access to the bottom of the board.

i found a sony prjector tv in the trash idk what model but it has 9 blinks and no remote how do i fix it
The first time I had one of those it took hours of troubleshooting so I just cut to the chase on this one!
Does it black out and come back on? if so try turning up the G2(screen) control. most likely the picture tube is getting weak.
I have a 57" Sony projection Tv (Wega) I get the 10 blinks, then it cuts off....Pwr reset won't work
After high School I worked on a lot of those TV's
on that set there should be just one diode D6301 on the sub power supply board.

You have to check on the schematic, or follow traces from t diode and check how other components are soldered in.

Old school design, no digital processing, plus massive space for heat to dissipate. These new sets process so much digital and get sooo hot they fry themselves. Also the glass in a CRT tv is 3/4 to 2 inches thick vs. .5mm to 1mm thick on a LCD and 2mm to 4mm on a plasma, they cant take any impact.

They are on the "A" board.
