Finally got a copy of this game. Played and loved the remake on PSN but it still can't touch the original. There's just something about the 16 bit era that no other generation has been able to top. This word gets thrown around a lot but Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse truly is "TIMELESS".
One of the best game Sega made I have so many great memories of this for my Mega Drive and Master System it's a must play & own for your Sega mega drive / master system

Castle of Illusions, Street Fighter 2' , Sonic 2, Road Rash, Street of Rage, Aladin, Lion King, Flink, MickeyMania, World of Illusions, Soleil, Fantasia, Tom, Jam and Earl were the best for me :D TY for this !!!!

I used to play Castle Of Illusion on my brothers Megadrive in the 90's quite often and it was easy. Sadly the Megadrive packed in and he sold all of the games he had and got a PS1. In the early 2000's i got my self a pristine Megadrive off ebay as well all as the games he had and still have them til this day. It really brings a tear to my eye because of the happy memories and life being so much easier back then.

I grew up a bit after the first NES. I got into Sega as my first real system in the very early 90s. People don't often mention the hidden gems like these, Kid Chameleon, Vector Man, Fantasia, Spot Goes to Hollywood, Earthworm Jim, M.E.R.C.S, Jurassic Park, etc They might not be the greatest games, but they were fond memories of mine.
I used to see this in the early Genesis ads, always wanted to play it. Well I've owned it and World of Illusion for several years now, and along with my SNES Mickey games (all 3 Magical Quest games), they all make such a nice combo to play.

This game had such great sound. I had some ugly-as-sin multi colored button controller that also had built in headphone extension. Made it sound even better. An excellent game as well. I did manage to win this one as a kid. Thanks for posting.
A truly wonderful Genesis game. That being said, they did a mistake by 'mixing' the Clocktower Stage and the Castle Stage together, reducing the lifespan (the SMS version didn't and that's why I prefer it to the 16bits one).
I always loved the Sega/Disney games, which were always overshadowed by the Capcom/Disney games. I always felt that the SNES Capcom/Disney games, while still very good, were lackluster in terms of art design and animation. I found the animation so stiff, compared to the Sega games. Look at Mickey's bouncy walk cycle. Then, look at Mickey's walk cycle in any of Capcom's 16-bit games. The animation was just not as Disney-esque. I'm glad this game is finally getting the praise it deserves.
I was in my 30s when I got this given by my Nephew ( he moved onto better things ) .....I was hooked and would spend literally 5 or 6 hours at a time glued to the screen.....just hearing ome of the levels theme tunes made me sweat lol.....great memories x
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is a 1990 platform game developed by Sega and released for the Sega Genesis. An 8- bit version of the game was later released for the Master System and Game Gear. The game follows Mickey Mouse on a quest to save my girlfriend Minnie Mouse from the evil witch Mizrabel who wants to steal her beauty.
That moment when you finished it on easy n played it again on normal to find more levels! Was buzzing off my tits the 5 year old me, was like winning the lottery!
