I got it last year. While there is no pain, the experience is far from comfortable, and your eyes feel "tired" all the time for months, and you go through a lot of eye drops. But, being able to just wake up and see everything clearly is great ngl.
Edit: For anyone curious, the total cost for my procedure after shopping around a bit was 2k.

I got LASIK surgery back in November 2022. I was obviously nervous and scared what could happen. My eye surgeon was so amazing however. He made sure, before operation, that my eyes were numb TWICE as many times as needed. He said "I wanted to be make sure you weren't nervous anymore to do the surgery. We didn't even need to numb the eyes 6 times." He does this with almost every patient who has anxiety and fear. At the table, he numbs the eyes again.
During operation, you literally feel NOTHING. You only hear the laser make it's rhythmic buzzing noise indicating it's doing it's job to correct your vision.
I was only in there for less than 10 minutes. Changed my whole life in that amount of time. Yes, it's expensive, but it's not "You're gonna go broke in debt" expensive... So worth it. And don't let this surgery give you horrible anxiety and thoughts of not wanting to get it done. I cried when I got mine done cuz I immediately could see clearer right off the bat.

Ya, first of all, mine was painful because my eyes have "small orbits", ie are deeper and seem smaller so they had to force the machine into my eyes. The thing holding the eyelids open was not pleasant either and the lasers are pretty "blinding".
In the end they burned my cornea which made the eyes dry and I had to use gels for months and do check-ups every two weeks before my sight stabilised.
Myopia was cured in one eye but remained slightly in the other.
Just research the clinic you want to use. If it's cheap and they got people coming in and out like they are on a conveyor belt, then expect to be treated like a cheap product

I had this done around 6 years ago. The laser only used 20 seconds on each eyes. But my eyesight was so bad that I had to do the operation 2 times. First was to balance the eyes, so both eyes had the same sight. I had to wait 6 months for my second operation, so that my eyes could adjust. The second operation also only took 20 seconds for each eye. Now 6 years later, my eye sight is about as perfect as it can be, but I needed atleast a year to get used to the new sight, and with not having to wear glasses anymore. Been about 2 months since I got LASIK.
For those thinking about it, but are scared, I'll give alittle advice; Is it scary? Hell yes, they are cutting your eye open and shooting a lazer into it. BUT, it doesn't hurt, you eyes are held open and thats a bit uncomfortable, there are multiple people around you making sure everything is going okay.
The worst part is after, when you have to take multiple drops, ever hour for the rest of the day.
It's been two months, and I regret nothing. The sensation of being able to see more than 5 inches without glasses is literally insane.
If you have a chance, I 100% recommend it. It's going to suck after the surgery for a bit, but, it is completely worth it.

I don't remember my eye prescription as it changed so much for me, it was absolutely terrible though; I needed them all the time, and could only see a few inches in front of me without them.
Needless to say. I would recommend it now if you can afford it, and have the short time for the recovery.

I've had this surgery about 5 years ago. They made the flap with a laser as well. The procedure was kind of fast, faster than I expected it to be. We were in a room with like 10 others and got numbing eyedrops which in turn we were called into the surgery room one by one.
Once there, the nurse suctions a small plastic cup on your eyeballs to keep it from closing. Then the laser machine comes down, resting on one of the cups. It then makes the flap which took about 10-12 seconds per eye, after which I had to return to the original room with the others until we all had our flaps made.
Finally I was called into the room again in which I had to lie down again where the doctor carefully opens the flap. A different machine rests above your head and you have to keep your eye as still as you can. The machine is fast enough that it won't fuck up your eye if you move but no movement is always better. It took about 7-8 seconds per eye to correct my vision.
After the whole ordeal I get brought to a different room to rest for about 15 min before I could go home, and had to return the next day for a check up.
All in all it was more scary than painful, practically no pain at all aside from some pressure from the machine resting on the cup and a small pinching sensation from making the flap. Aside from seeing the bright red light, there was no sensation from the correctional laser at all.
Best €2.400 I had ever spent in my life, I still see sharp after all these years and I have a lifelong warranty so even if my vision wanes in 10-20 years, I can go back again for free.
The Netherlands btw where I went to a company called 'Visus Oogkliniek' which is the best in my country where they always use the latest available technology or you get a heavy discount if some other company uses newer tech. Even a famous MMA fighter, Rico Verhoeven, got his eyes lasered there a month before his big fight (he got a more expensive surgery which allowed for faster healing to participate in contact sports).

Fun Fact: If you're nearsighted, you will still be nearsighted after LASIK. Unlike farsightedness (which is the irregularities on the lens), nearsightedness is the elongation of the eye ball itself. You may have both, but lasik will only correct the lens, not the elongation.

The surgery itself was painless. Instead I was nervous and my eyeballs felt a lot of pressure. BUT, the pain hits when the numbing eyedrops are gone. Then, my eyeballs felt like they were burning! I couldn't do much about it but cry and drug myself to sleep. 😭 One of my worst nights ever. The benefit of lasik is that you dont have to wear glasses/ contacts but there can be side effects as well. I have intense halos/ glares, especially with night time driving. It was literally impossible to drive at night. 😢

Any Lasik place worth their salt doesn’t use a physical blade to make an incision in your eye. They use a laser that creates little tiny bubbles at a certain depth and these bubbles form the “cut.” This is much more precise and hygienic than a steel blade. It reduces the likelihood of infection by a significant amount and the eye heals faster.

People can talk as much smack on those movies all they want. The amount of fears people have specifically due to Final Destination is pretty notable. For example:
      - driving behind log/pipe trucks
      - Getting in a tanning bed
      - getting on an elevator
      - letting your feet get too close to the end of an escalator
      - getting lasik surgery
      - being ANYWHERE near a pool drain
These all come from people I've spoken with about the series! I personally was terrified to take showers until I was maybe 14 because of FD2. Good movies? Maybe not. Fear generators? Hell yeah.

LASIK surgery is a procedure that can improve vision by reshaping the cornea. During the surgery, a laser is used to remove a tiny amount of tissue from the cornea. This helps to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The surgery is quick and painless, with most patients experiencing improved vision almost immediately. Overall, LASIK surgery is a safe and effective way to enhance eyesight for those who are eligible.

Do your research before getting lasik. I got it done and it’s very nice not needing glasses during the day, but I cannot see AT ALL if it’s even mildly dim. My girlfriend has to lead me by the hand through movie theaters. The starburst effect on headlights at night is BRUTAL to the point I have to wear tinted glasses just to feel comfortable driving at night. I actually jumped a curb and hit an island sign that I couldn’t see at all due to a combination of high-beams across the intersection and heavy rain. I also have a very limited cone of sight, meaning I can’t find wall outlets or small details unless I get lucky enough to stare DIRECTLY at it. I have to run my eyes along the lengths of walls or the floor just to find things.
My eyes were bad before, but I definitely don’t think they were THIS bad. I probably wouldn’t have gotten the surgery knowing what I know now.

Got this done a week ago. The surgery itself was 10 mins, 5 mins each eye, then next day I was already seeing 20/20 and according to my doctors it’s only going to get better as my eyes heal. I do experience some mild dry eye but it’s normal, nothing compared to dry eyes due to contacts. I started wearing contact lenses at the age of 12, currently 23, and I couldn’t be anymore happier of not wearing some damn piece of plastic on my eye every single day. I was always so hesitant to get the surgery and for good reasons, glad I waited and got it done by a good doctor and at a good place. Also the surgery was completely painless, shortly after though it started stinging really bad, but as I was advised, I went home and slept for a couple hours because of the Xanax I was given, after my nap my vision wasn’t perfect but I could still see. The following day my vision was already 20/20.

As far as I know, lasik is not used to correct people's irregularly shaped corneas. Its flattening the cornea to direct the light to the right place in the eyeball. There could be many reasons why it doesn't do this naturally, maybe its the shape of the eyeball, or the lens underneath the pupil has gone stiff with age. And that flap doesn't fully heal closed, there's always the risk the flap could reopen again.

Due to emmetropization of the eye, your eyeball length may be changing. As a result of that change, light will not hit the retina at the back of the eye correctly causing blurriness of vision in either shorter distances or longer distances, depending on of the light falls in front or behind the retina.
This surgery does not account for eyeball length changes at all and permanently alerts the lens of the eye. If your eyeball length changes after surgery your eyesight will be even worse than it was before you had surgery.

I had Lasik surgery done three or four years ago. No complications, no problems, it took longer to get in to have the procedure done than it took to actually complete it. Didn't feel a thing while it was happening, just looked where the doctor told me to look, and my vision was completely fixed. I could smell a slight burning smell while it happened, but, I wasn't worried in the slightest. When I retook my driver's vision test to remove the glasses requirement, I could see the letters on the 20/0 line. The testing instrument they used tested out to 20/0, but I only had to read the 20/20 line to complete the test.

Lasik can be bad because the flap can actually unflap itself from a hard enough impact or if you rub your eyes, and it’s so delicate, you couldn’t just put it back in place like a contact lens. The other way is getting the flap removed entirely during the surgery, then putting soft contact lenses on the eyes for a week until the cornea (flap) grows back. This method is insanely painful throughout the whole week and a lot of pain meds are administered, but well worth the wait and pain.

Had femto smile lasik surgery to fix my short sightedness and heres how it was:
The more comfortable lasik procedure tends to be the one where they use a laser to cut the corneal flap and then another laser to correct the eye sight. No pain, since they use anesthetic eyedrops and lubricant eyedrops that help you not feel the need to blink or itch your eye, before you go into surgery. Scariest parts is the feeling of pressure on your eye as you briefly go blind (you can see your eye sight fade into black.), since your mind panics when it realises the eye is open and youve really gone blind if only for a short moment.
That and when you feel them peeling the corneal flap back so the laser has access to the eye, as well as peeling it forward back into place, you can feel them do it which is weird lol. Proceedure takes only like 15 mins but including prep is about an hour or 2. After the surgery you get bedrest to let the flap heal. but you may wake up with very itchy eyes (the lubricant eyedrop wearing off) and because of the eye cover you cannot itch it. Doing so could very well damage your eyes very badly.
In other situations, where there is pain or it doesnt make your eyesight good, the surgery has clearly gone wrong. The surgery is meant to be painless and help with your eyesight not the opposite.
Of course at the end of the day people may have different experiences but this one is my experience and i hope it helps! (I understand some people didnt end up having eyedrops or were put under during surgery)
