The PEUGEOT 408 is out of the ordinary: it is primarily characterized by its dynamic fastback silhouette and its modern design. The feline silhouette is typical of the brand's models. The lines are sharp, the grille is made in the color of the body and blends into the front end. In addition, the PEUGEOT 408 features the new PEUGEOT coat of arms logo with a lion's head. The shape of the rear bumper gives the model a strong character. The PEUGEOT 408 stands firmly on large wheels with a diameter of 720 mm, and the distinctive 20-inch (50.8 cm) wheels feature an interrupted geometric design. With the characteristic light signature at the front, as well as the LED lights with three claws at the rear, the PEUGEOT 408 fits into the model range of the lion brand.
With a length of 4.69 meters based on a long wheelbase of 2.79 meters, the new PEUGEOT 408 has a spacious second row with 188 mm of knee room. The trunk is also generously dimensioned with a volume of 536 liters and can be increased to 1,611 liters with the rear seat backs folded down. The PEUGEOT 408 is 1.48 meters high and has a slim and elegant silhouette. This improves aerodynamic efficiency with a reduced frontal area (SCx of 0.654 m 2 ) and a Cx of 0.28.
For its drivers and passengers, the PEUGEOT 408 offers the latest generation of the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit ® , recognizable by its compact steering wheel designed for driving pleasure and controlled agility. The focus is on the quality of the interior and connectivity with the latest technologies to make the driving and traveling experience even more intuitive.
The 30 driver assistance systems, supported by six cameras and nine radar devices, ensure safety. This includes:
the adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function,
Night Vision, which warns of animals, pedestrians or cyclists on the road before they appear in the high beam,
Blind Spot Assist: Long range (75 meters) blind spot monitoring,
Rear Traffic Alert, which warns of a potential hazard when reversing.
The range of engines for the PEUGEOT 408 will include two plug-in hybrid versions with 180 hp (132 kW) and 225 hp (165 kW) and a 130 hp (96 kW) internal combustion engine. All engines are paired with an EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission. A fully electric version will follow a few months later.
Efficiency was an important concern for the designers of the PEUGEOT 408 and is reflected in the combination of aerodynamic measures, weight reduction (vehicle weight from 1,396 kilograms) and low-emission engines.
