14:10 is a scary reminder for me, usually in these compilations its mostly illegal hits and sometimes I forget just how terrifying completely clean hits can still be
The speed of the players today is wild. A lot of times the ball carrier will also lower their head at the wrong time which causes some scary hits. But you are right that a lot of hits are perfectly legal, but are just as bad.
That’s why I hate it when people say “stop trying to make football soft”. It’s not being soft to want to protect players from injuries that can not only end their career, but potentially wound them for the rest of their lives. Sometimes ref take it too far, but this compilation is a great reminder of what we should and should not allow.
Wide receivers are without question the most vulnerable position on the field and there's absolutely no way to protect them when they're focused on catching the ball (coming from an ex WR whose whole body is battered from catching balls down the middle from elementary to High School)
7:30 That's scary. I grew up around Detroit and in 1991 a player named Mike Utley for the Lions gave the same thumbs up after a hard hit. He was paralyzed from the chest down.
They said that player from Alabama A&M who recently died had given a thumbs up to the crowd as he was wheeled off the field. It’s generally a good sign when they do, but isn’t always a guarantee for a good outcome sadly. That one actress actually completely sat up on her gurney after a car accident and then ended up passing away at the hospital. I remember hearing about the Mike Utley play recently.
@@NaterBater which is why it's scary to see a player get hit that hard. If they're not moving it's even scarier because even though they're knocked out you don't know what's going on with their brain internally
It wasn't a herd hit that paralyzed Uttley. He landed on his head and that broke his neck. If you are from the Detroit area, you should have known that! I am from the middle of the desert in Arizona, and I knew that!
you love to see the good sportsmanship from the opposing team players making sure the guys involved in the hits are okay and signaling for the injury staff
@@marlonbrando33 You're right. His uncle is Jevon Kearse. AI was wrong on this one. "AI Overview Learn more Jevon Kearse's son is Jayron Kearse, an American football safety:" Either way, I'm sure his uncle had some good influence on him in his football career.
NGL… The NFL needs to address _the ball carrier_ lowering their heads and/or leading with the helmet. There are too many of these injuries where the offensive player’s actions contribute significantly to the brutal hits, yet only the defensive player gets blamed.
Also we need to start teaching QBs to not throw so many hospital passes. Some of these are at least partially on the QB for throwing to somebody who has a safety or LB roaring in to make a play. The answer isn't to penalize the defenders for doing their job and breaking up passes.
Taylors a real 9ne. You gotta remember, a lot of these Illegal hits ARE NOT intentional. When you have a fast playing game like tackling football, everyones trying to make a play and in that split second, you might not realize you're going helmet to helmet or making a physically brutal play. It just happens. Dont get me wrong. There are egregious acts of brutality done on purpose, but i like to believe the majority is just honest mistakes in the heat of the moment.
if you mean Ike Taylors hit on Pat White I agree. Anyone who says that was a dirty hit has never played or too stupid to pay attention. Whites' foot got hit, he was falling down and in less than a second hit by Taylor. Taylor had no chance to adjust at that point. Had White been able to stay upright, that hit would have been in the gut/shoulder and still within the field of play.
At 13:30 Steelers #50 Ryan Shazier hits. I noticed he was pointing to his lower back and facing up moving his hands and not his feet. Googled him. During the 2017 season, in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Shazier attempted to make a head-first tackle that left him a paraplegic, after which he had to have spinal stabilization surgery and learn to walk again. After spending two seasons on the Steelers' physically unable to perform list, Shazier announced his retirement from football in 2020.
It’s an incredible story of a determination that he was able to walk again. These kinds of plays make you see the human side of these athletes. Some players are unfortunately never able to walk again after hits and there have even been a few instances where it’s been fatal, including just this year in college football 😢
Fucking hell when I saw that clip and saw him motion towards his back+ saw how far his back bent in that hit I was so scared this would happen. Thank god he can walk still
@doriangray7112 thanks for letting us know you are the problem with sports. It's a game not war. Pathetic people like you always make up for the fact that they have no life by taking a game to seriously. You want war? Join the military.
