    I tried the 993A, but it died on me after a few months, so I decided to go for the
    Pro'sKit SS-331H Electric Solder Sucker Desoldering Device
    It's has the pump and electronics in a separate box, so the handset is much lighter.
    The price is almost identical to this 998P, both on sale at Banggood.
    Bigger, better pump and more and better electronic control circuit that what is crammed inside this handset.

    I bought the next
    S-993-A
    S-998-P
    Hakko 808
    Hakko FR-301
    Yihua 948D
    ZD915
    This is the results
    S-993-A Piece of Shit
    S-998-P Piece of Shit
    Hakko 808 I love it
    Hakko FR-301 Ummm I not sure.
    Yihua 948 Works very well, If you are in budget this is a very good option.
    ZD915 Works very well.
    Best Regards.

    It looks somewhat bulky. I have a 985 which I got for 100 eur delivered off of ebay (EU). Quite like it.
    I find that adding some leadeded solder before desoldering may actually save some time, because it then requires less heat (fewer lifted pads). Thanks for the review.

      I've replaced the filters in the zd-985 gun with Carbon fume extraction filter, also I've replaced the spring with one from a 6,3 mm Audio jack.

    • @nrcha
      @nrcha 3 года назад

      @@19janiboy96 Why the carbon though? Did you run out of replacement filters? I have not changed filter yet, so do not know, but I would imagine that one could be made easily from a folded 3ply loo paper?

    • @19janiboy96
      @19janiboy96 3 года назад

      because of the airflow and therefore better suction

      @@19janiboy96 Isn’t carbon filter bit more restrictive than regular wool (or paper fiber) in terms of airflow?

    I bought the s-998 about 2 years ago. Paid 270 AU for it. Died after 2 uses. Now in a box somewhere. Would love to know if the hakko one is better and how much better

    Try the prokit ss-331h think is better build and about the same price

    Thanks for the review. Is the pump assembly well balanced or does it vibrate a lot?

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  3 года назад

      It feels fine, smooth enough, but build doesn’t feel quite as sturdy as the 993A I have.

    Great review but I can't think of a single reason to buy this over the SS-331 station. It's heavier, bulkier, produces less heat and less powerful vacuum. The small pump is not nearly as robust as the ones they can put into the station. In addition, you can buy many repair parts for the station including a complete spare gun for only $30.

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  2 года назад

      Yes I reviewed the SS-331 also, it is a MUCH better unit, it is what I use now and has a permanent spot on my bench.

    I use a Desoldering station which works great for me of course you lose some desk space and the Gaojie takes up a lot less desk space but then it is a lot more expensive, and not sure it would do a better job :-)

    That new gun looks really good. Interesting I have just bought a new Hakko desoldering gun but haven’t unwrapped it yet but it looks similar. The design of the hole and pin size makes a big difference to the ability of the desoldering. Some boards just won’t desolder whatever you use. I also have a Pace desoldering station that I paid around £1500 and it’s awful never worked well despite the very high cost.

  • @gtmget

    My first day of using the s998p is quite a mess. I desoldered 6-7 mx switches and it just clogged up. I should have just gotten the cheaper s993.
    Is there anyway to prevent the soldered from clogging up often? I have to use the cleaning rod every 30 sec to prevent it from clogging and it's quite a hassle.

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  Год назад +1

      Check your technique first, hold the trigger for a short time after removing the tip from the joints to give solder a chance to clear the tube and get into the chamber, mine rarely clogs

  • @fredflintstone1

    The mesh was it just wire wool, or a specific mesh??
