Beautiful to see pigs running and sniffing and rooting around in the woods like God intended. No cement and steel bars for them! BTW you mentioned no issues with predators, you should not have to worry about bears as they absolutely HATE electricity (an electric cattle prod is more effective against bears than pepper spray). That electric wire will keep them away. Coywolves on the other hand...
You have a beautiful farm there!

Does anyonet Trap feral Hogs anywhere near you?
If so, gonce you've got your Fencing secure, (with a sturdy plot for training to Hot-wire fencing) see if you can arrange a deal with a Trapper for his underweight littluns. Chances are he gets nothing for them if he's selling to a Processor. If you've no experoience breeding & rearing, it might be a way to get some use from otherwise useless land.

Gonna be working on fencing this coming week, weather permitting. From watching your videos, I'm liking your fencing. Simple. I have the electric wire needed. I have a bit of wooded "pasture" I already have my horse and mini donkey in. It's a start! Right now, she's in a dog pen with some kunes and potbellies. Those little ones are on the market now.

We are in Central Ohio and have 18 acres of woods. We are hoping to start with 2-3 feeder pigs for ourselves next spring then build from there.
What size should our paddocks be to start? And how many should we use if rotating? Would like to start sufficient but small but allow for expansion.

I have never been around Blue Butt hogs but they look to be pretty docile, friendly and very curious. They are looking good! Am interested to know how long they will take to reach processing weight with amount of feed consumed and how you like the meat in comparison with the meat from the hogs you currently breed. I raised Duroc and Duroc Yorkshire cross for quite a few years and am seriously thinking about starting up again. Am looking at and considering other breeds of pigs and also what makes a good cross with Duroc besides Yorkshire that grows out well in 6 to 7 months. Possibly Tamworth or Berkshire but still looking.

Do pigs need a lot of underbrush to eat? Those woods look like mature trees and leaves. Seems like there wouldn't be much to sustain several pigs. What do they eat in mature woods?

Ahh, insects your video answered my question. So does that mean one can sustain pigs on land they have already cleared of underbrush.
