Funnily, Herman has started doing live streams on Twitch to connect with fans, and you can see what an awesome guy he truly is. That makes all of his haters look even more like jackasses. It's one thing to dislike his playing, but the hatred the guy himself receives is completely unnecessary and undeserved. Again, social media and Twitch show that Herman is a cool guy. Herman Li and Yngwie malmsteen are my all time favourite guitarist ... I wish if I get a chance to meet them some day I will take some tips and tricks to play like them .
The bulk of his skill is in the fluency of his sweeping and tapping. His picking is lightning quick. He's got a bag full of party tricks he's mastered. A firm understanding of harmony and music theory. A good ear for constructing riffs and intelligent patterns. Somewhere in that forest of perfection he's lost his soul. There's hints of it in his playing but he's to obsessed with bigger better. Like MAB, phenomenal musician, could do with a few lessons from Satriani though, or Gilbert, Govan, Vai, Malsteem. All shredders but poetic in there translations.
And how easy it is to overlook the simple and pure fact of having even just being happy to be there and play and that doing so for fans. Sometimes it's not all about skill level or feel it's being happy to be there and play. Music is ancient. Sometimes it's where it comes from and the presented idea over the capability. Nobody can be disappointed once you've already reached such a caliber, as inhuman as Li's. It has already been proven through the records. He has over achieved over achievements many ways and I am happy that through in the realm of powermetal.
