this is one of the best Pistons team of all time these guys played together there were no egos everyone knew what the goal and that was to win championship coach brown was a excellent coach he made sure that everyone focused on the team and that played a factor in us winning a title in 04' I think it's critical when a team hires a head coach they make sure that coach is a good fit for the team to achieve success and coach brown established his philosophy since day 1 and the Pistons respected that voice and demeanor of how coach brown coached the team
My favorite team of all time! I know there have been better teams overall than my Pistons but they are up there with all of the all time great teams no doubt! Deeetroit Basketbaaall!
DAAAAAMN so Pistons not only beated one mamba - Kobe Bryant, but 2nd mamba? I didn't kno they beat white mamba aka Brian Scalabrine. That's fucking impressive.
Wow, what a team... found this videotape in a local library which made me a piston fan eventually! I think this team truly embodies the pride of basketball! Thank you guys... - a fan from europe
yea...but he has moments where he gets down on himself and it shows in his lack of effort at times. I really like KCP and I think that Stanley Johnson is going to be a very good player. This team is a player or two away yet...fun to watch at times and very frustrating as well.
fascinating to see so many low scoring matches. they swept nets 90-69 in game 7!!!! great team, their defense was big time. so underrated. even with the draft pick of darko milicic they still managed to win that one championship. can't imagine if they picked melo, they would have been probably a three year dominant dynasty.
Tay is one of my all time favorite piston he plays the game the right way he's unselfish and he's a good defensive player he does a good job using his length and size to disrupt perimeter jump shooters and I thought he did a good job guarding Kobe in the finals his arms bothered Kobe from making shots and that played a huge factor in us winning a title
That 2004 Pistons was the only championship team I recall watching that won by having a tremendous defense. Their offense wasn't elite but they proved that season that teamwork and a great defense can beat a very good offense any given day.
Loved it back when all the lakers fans said after they closely reached the finals that they already won the chip and then got absolutely destroyed by Detroit. That was a demonstration that a team with great chemistry and system beats a team which relies on 1 or 2 star players
The Lakers loss to the Pistons in the 2004 NBA Finals marked beginning of the end of the dynasty as Shaq & Kobe had their falling out and Shaq was traded to the Miami Heat to pair up with Dwayne Wade and the Heat would win the franchise's first NBA two years later in 2006 and the Lakers would make it back to the Finals in 2008 losing to the Celtics before winning back to back in 2009 & '10.
thats the highest compliment that this pistons 04.team, we witness also here in malaysia that finals, specially game1,its televise here around 3 a.m. and everyone was betting, for lakers man.its unbelievable.
after detioit pistons won back 2 back nba titles in 1989 and 1990 both on the road this NBA title is for the fans because they did it in front of their home court
The ball don't lie lol. this piston really made me a NBA fan - never a fan of one man vs five basket ball played by "legends" such as jordan or kobe. I really enjoy teams like this.
Its sad how the Pistons are kind of boring now but Dwane Casey can hopefully reignite the team and make moves. But you need to either maximize Blake Griffin or trade him for picks.
I wasn't born to see the 80's team. But I seen Grant hills team and I always said it's got to get better than this! Stack was good and I thought getting young montross would of been good. And joe Was still playing then bringing in Mahorn I thought yeah! 1997 1998 we are going all the way! but it never happened. Then years down the road this team was put together and I loved it I could go to school everyday bragging how we dawged the Lakers all my friends was always pissed lol. Then we ran into the spurs girl I liked LOVED the spurs so it didn't end well for me lol
Savage Tilley Yeah that was my one big regret with these Pistons, that the guys who built the team back up after Hill left couldn't be a part of this championship. Hill and Stack seemed like a great duo that just needed a couple more pieces around them but Hill jumped to Orlando. That Piston team immediately after was bad but entertaining. JYD was the first to go for Corliss, good trade for the Pistons but I loved the JYD. Then Uncle Cliff, Jon Barry, Chucky Atkins, and especially Stack, all those guys on the teams eliminated by Boston and Jersey were huge in revitalizing the Pistons and it was just such a shame that they all couldn't get their rings with the Pistons as well. I remember the start of this season and the early struggles, I felt that so much of it had to do with Elden Campbell starting and replacing Uncle Cliff and I was really mad at Joe D for it. Looking back I think this team would have won the championship with Sheed or Cliff cuz it was the depth more than the starting five alone that made this championship a reality.
All these "Lakers would have won if this, if that" crap... yeah right, how 'bout the Lakers wouldn't have even reached the Finals if the refs didn't count Fisher's 0.4 second shot, or if Sam Cassell didn't injure his back prior to the Conference Finals? Laker fans with their excuses. SMH
***** Yeah, trust me as a fan, those Pistons' teams were legendarily great defensive teams. At one point in either '04 or '05 season, they held 6 straight NBA teams to under 70 points. Unfathomable. You could argue a bit of a decline in Superstar scorers in that era, but such a feat will never be accomplished again in the league.
jan279 why wouldn't then count the shot? Derek Fisher got it off in time so theres no argument. But Sam Cassell definitely if he stayed healthy the T-Wolves would of spanked the lakers
***** Pistons really had a Fantastic Defense,,i mean me as a Spur..have to agree that in 2005 the spurs's hardest Finals Victory was against this Talented Detroit Team..for me they was the " New Bad Boys " of Detroit..
jan279 Yeah I remember Jermaine O'Neal dissing the Pistons after this win saying they only won cuz their opposition every round had someone hurt. The big thing this documentary lacked was showing the role the Pistons bench played. This was the deepest team I ever saw not necessarily in talent but Larry Brown finding a way to get contribution from every player off the bench. Corliss gave you that great low-post threat being an impossible matchup, Memo was the big man who could step out and hit perimeter shots, Elden Campbell gave another imposing big man on defense, Darvin Ham could ignite the crowd with his highlight-reel dunks, and that back-court of James and Hunter on the floor together were a nightmare for the opposition playing lockdown on-the-ball-defense and hitting three's. The only thing they lacked that year was a replacement for Jon Barry or Chucky Atkins, that bona fide 3-point shooter off the bench. Lakers may have been able to match the Pistons talent but they couldn't match our depth. LA without Shaq and Kobe together on the floor had nothing which kept Jackson having to give them way too many minutes. Pistons were the fresher team throughout the regular season, the playoffs, and especially the Finals. LA had too many interior players with Shaq and Malone on the post and Kobe at his best driving to the basket, they were so one dimensional. It is remarkable they made it that far considering that they were a collection of talent not a well-rounded team.
jan279 hate to tell you this injuries are a part of sports. Basketball unlike baseball where anyone can win if you have great pitching basketball one player can make a huge difference if Isiah Thomas doesn't sprain his ankle in 88 pistons probably win championship against Lakers if Karl Malone doesn't get hurt in 04 Lakers beat pistons if Billus doesn't get hurt in 03 against Nets Pistons probably go to the finals that year if Kyrie and K Love play Cavs beat Golden-State if D Rose doesn't go down I believe the Bulls would have been to at least one finals by now but like I said injuries are a part of the game
+TheHarslord rasheed was an all starr, chancey billups was an all starr, richard Hamilton was avg 20 ppg, ben Wallace was 4 time dpoy A defensive anchor that did every dirty work. Only avg Player was tayshaun But he was A defensive minded 3. Then we have THE bench wich was solid and probably on of THE best at THE time. Larry Brown top 3 coach in that era
+TheHarslord on THE flipside. Lakers had no bench. Kobe had problems with shaq going into THE finals and he got problems with Karl malone who cheated with his wife. Speaking about malone THE Guy got injured midway THE finals. Payton was Shell of HIM self
+TheHarslord kobe was Hero balling THE entire finals and literally froze shaq and his teammates by doing that. THE lakers offense just didnt met the defensive yhat THE pistons handed to them. And THE most importantly THE pistons played team basketball. OnE thing i know for sure if THE lakers where clicking with Each other and healthy then they wouldve beat the pistons in 6 or 7 But everthing what couldve went wrong, just went wrong

what has Detroit done since winning the 2004 NBA Title Answer Me Pistons fans what have they done since 2004 Nothing Lakers since 2004 have won Back to Back NBA titles + the Pistons can't repeat as NBA Champions you guy got beat by the Spurs in game 7 heck you guy can't even 3 peat At least the Lakers can 3 peat and to top it off you guy have only 3 NBA Titles Lakers have 16 so to you guy have more titles then the Lakers i don't want to hear what the Pistons did to the Lakers in 1989 or 2004 because no body cares Lakers are still better then Pistons you want the truth Pistons fans you can't handle the truth
Larry is a hell of a coach. My fucking fav, he doesnt need amazing players to produce results.
Big Ben's and Buh-Buh Billups jersey retirements this season made me remember my childhood and watching these games.
right
Yess! I was in high school back then. I remember watching almost all their season game replays almost every night. I love this team.
Back to watch this for the 100th time. Can't wait to see Chauncey's number go into the rafters!
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

I didn't kno they beat white mamba aka Brian Scalabrine.
That's fucking impressive.
Brain Scalabrnie let them win if he tried his best the NBA would go out of business because he would be to good
I'm sure they also defeated one of the best players during that time --- Sean May.
This TEAM was GREAT
Wow, what a team... found this videotape in a local library which made me a piston fan eventually! I think this team truly embodies the pride of basketball! Thank you guys... - a fan from europe
Ephraim Lässig 😭😭😭😭
Great story of hardwork and teamwork congratz 2004 piston
Everyone calls Darko Milicic a bust but he became champion before any of the big name players from the '04 draft.
Emergency Gaming Shut the fuck up
Emergency Gaming lol
All star Lakers ( Kobe Bryant, Shaq, karl Malone, Gary Payton, Horace Grant, Derek Fisher, Rick Fox) against the Pistons :D ..

yea...but he has moments where he gets down on himself and it shows in his lack of effort at times. I really like KCP and I think that Stanley Johnson is going to be a very good player. This team is a player or two away yet...fun to watch at times and very frustrating as well.
Y'all don't even know how intense the Nets series was.... Kidd vs Billups all game long had me on the edge of my seat

Larry Brown is a hall of famer and a great motivator what he did with 2001 76ers and 2004 piston
the glory time of the PISTONS
This Pistons team would destroy the Warriors

@@fearless9791 yes
In this era of basketball goldenstate would win
@@dudewotever11 nope mot at all 😊 it is the battle of wing man players. piston have the advantage tho 😊
I was 15 years old during this time :) I'm cheering for the Piston's while my cousin was a Pro-KOBE LAKERS :)
One of the best team ever

Well Sheed, I think you'll still make it.

DEEEEETROIT BASKETBALL!
Basketball played the right way.

@ 51:29 16 wins to get the Larry O'Brien trophy as the NBA Champions, the guys playing in the palace at auburn hills have got 15
not a day goes by do i not think of this team
Sheed wore every other jersey except a pistons jersey, goddamn
Loved it back when all the lakers fans said after they closely reached the finals that they already won the chip and then got absolutely destroyed by Detroit. That was a demonstration that a team with great chemistry and system beats a team which relies on 1 or 2 star players
man being a lakers fan this was the dream team man omg we shoulda won it but Chauncey and tayshaun were hot all series

2003
Like Larry brown said at 37:57, "San Antonio beat their asses first, too" in 2003
Milicic first one of the 2003 draft to get a ring :)
i remeber at the time after 2004 olympics, people were talkin: just send detroit pistons to olympics instead of that team USA which got bronze
thats the highest compliment that this pistons 04.team, we witness also here in malaysia that finals, specially game1,its televise here around 3 a.m. and everyone was betting, for lakers man.its unbelievable.
And they were absolutely true. The 2004 Pistons would had brought the gold medal to the US
The most gutsy championship in the history of the league
this 2004 piston can beat the 2017 GSW and the 2016 Cavs :)
hit like if you agree :)
Not with 2017 rules! If Its early 2000 rules they would murder everybody. Who would stop Ben Wallace
How about the brawl ahaha

i can smell the defense
Its sad how the Pistons are kind of boring now but Dwane Casey can hopefully reignite the team and make moves. But you need to either maximize Blake Griffin or trade him for picks.
All great Pistons teams were defensive first. Van Gundy is bringing back Bad Boys 2.0.
K-Mart was an beast who wasn't all athleticism and would have been a superstar if it wasn't for injuries.
