For all of you who did not know. Gilgamesh was originally form FFV. But Exdeath banished him to the Interdimensional Rift. Aka the void where all universes are connected hence he can travel all the Final Fantasy universe. Usually the running gag is he always look for Bartz because he considers him his rival. And no he cannot last long in a universe because the rift always pulls him out suddenly.
This is the first time he's ever been featured in a FF7 game though, which is pretty awesome. He's been in just about every other mainstream Final Fantasy at this point in some form or another.
To add his character, he is not even villain nor evil. He actually good person (fiend) but dealing with bad crowd like exdeath. SPOILER ALERT !!! He even sacrificing himself for bartz party in the end.
He's also based on elements from both the stories of Benkei a Japanese monk that fought on a bridge and took the weapons of anyone he defeated and the Mesopotamian poem of king Gilgamesh that fought monsters alongside the beast man Enkidu. He does all those things in the games but humorously and in the style of Kabuki theatre.
Yeah, it's honestly hard to see him as a threatening villain when he does goofy stuff like this. That being said, he already did goofy stuff in the OG where he literally throws a Destruct Materia at Cloud and then *nyooms* away.
Thief and Genji equipment. Is this refer to FF5? Because the only way you can get Genji equipment is by use thief ability "steal" to Gilgamech everytime you meet him.
It's a recurring theme in the series, often the only way to get the genji gear is by stealing, in FFT Elmdor had them, ff 12 you stole them from gilgamesh, ff 5 as well, later versions of 6 also has Gilgamesh with genji for you to steal, 9 too, but you get a set from chocobo minigame+ a set stolen from the elemental fiends, Those are the ones I remember could be gotten with steal, others had the gear but you could find them in chests, shops or mission rewards.
For anyone curious, this isn't really a secret boss, he's part of a major (albeit optional) quest chain the game pushes you to do. Tiny spoilers: You'll be seeing a whole LOT of Greg in that quest chain because every quest in it ties back to him in one way or another. The quest chain spans the entire game and every zone. This isn't even the final quest in the chain.

They're really proud of their soundtracks I guess. Which is justified, but it'd be nice to actually hear what the characters are saying lmao. Remake has the same issue. Decreasing the music volume to 6 works pretty well though
Sephiroth shows up way too much in the remake. He was a mysterious and often faceless villain for a large portion of the original game. That's why he was revered and awestriking. When he did show up, it was a big deal. Now, he shows up every 5 minutes it feels like.

They're really proud of their soundtracks I guess. Which is justified, but it'd be nice to actually hear what the characters are saying lmao. Remake has the same issue. Decreasing the music volume to 6 works pretty well though

Sephiroth shows up way too much in the remake.
He was a mysterious and often faceless villain for a large portion of the original game. That's why he was revered and awestriking. When he did show up, it was a big deal.
Now, he shows up every 5 minutes it feels like.
