Ruban really has his own style with UMO but perfectly demonstrated through his influences it’s amazing. These days like a great blend of 60s/70s soul, funk, and Lofi psychedelic rock, even disco. Ministry of Alienation feels like such an underrated song
My daughter just turned me on to these guys. Fantastic band. My first thought was the drummer and bass player are killing it and the guitarist has listened to alot of Zappa.
Saw them live in Seattle this past weekend, hands down one of my fav concerts, the energy in the room was amazing! Hope they come back to KEXP to perform the new album!
@@bradg7000 Yes, no doubt...Dream cymbals are definitely the best value out there for quality cymbals. (best bang for your buck? ...if you will...d'dum-ptss!) If you want the best sounding set of cymbals, but for the least amount of money, you can't go wrong with Dream. There are certainly better-sounding cymbals out there, but you will pay an arm and a leg for them. You could get a whole set of Dreams for what you'd pay for 1 or 2 vintage Zildjian K Constantinople cymbals, and you'd be happy with the purchase.
Man as a quazi guitar player thinking of the writing and creative process for honeybee, to me that must be such a joyous feeling for accomplishing just that song. That song alone is just a masterpiece
some of the highlights of my gig-going youth was seeing this dude and his bro Kody in The Mint Chicks absolutely fucking TEARING it up in various local venues here in Hamilton, NZ. Swinging from the rafters, leaping from massive speaker stacks, just generally having a ridiculously good time. I met/accosted them a few times after shows, and they were fukn nice dudes.
i just discovered this band yesterday and they've really won me over. dripping with talent across the board, heavenly production on the album and a real skill at writing good songs. and then i find a set on KEXP...i'm complete :)
this band can write some great melodies...Hunnybee and Not in Love are so so so catchy!! I actually woke up singing them in my head and couldn't get back to sleep!! hence...why i'm here... x
UMO have been making some of the best music this decade, their live performances are A1 too. I mean they were one band that I wonder how well they would translate on the stage but they get it every time and are one of my favorite bands this decade if not ever
Yes...Immediately, this was the second thing that caught my attention. Oh, I'm a drummer so, of course, the first thing to grab me had to be something drum-related, which in this case was the wonderful dryness in the tone of the drums...very tasty.
It's really good the fact that the guitar and the vocals are doing almost the same thing melodicaly, all this together with those groovy bass lines, the chilling and harmonic keyboards and the nice drums make Unknown Mortal Orchestra such uniche and pleasing band.
@@elguerobasado you cant go off of a video thats been fucked with sound wise you gotta see them live i did last week also met ruban by there bus fucking amazing he was out of this world nice
I played Hunnybee during a group project and one of my classmates tried to make an insult and said it sounded like "something they'd play at Hometown Buffet".....like tbh.. I'd go to more Hometown Buffet's if they played UMO lmao jokes on u kid
“The reason I went to Vietnam was because I was thinking about Jimi Hendrix a lot. Obvious influence…” um…🌝 lol I love this band!! I swear some of the best music I’ve heard in the last few years has all come from down under!❤
mndmd Doesn't really sound like he's struggling. It's not like the studio version, but it doesn't fall from it. Kody backing him up is a strong move on their side.

Their sound is everything i imagined how paradise would sound like
Their sound is like how every stoned jam I've ever had sounds, but more ordered and skilful.
Constant Throwing Those are the perfect words for it. They have some groovy songs to jam to and they make them sound great
"period"

I thought Zappa almost immediately

The ride cymbal is amazing, the ring out is so lush
Robert Hudson its a dream bliss ride. I have one! Amazing cymbal and they’re cheap too
how much is your ride?

@@chrispolo840 dope I'll check them out Chris, thanks for the recommendation

Sometimes when I feel bad I remember that this account of history exists for free in HD at the tip of my fingers and I feel better after that
The whole band here playing amazingly but I'll just leave a reminder here of how good a drummer Kody is.
Wow! How many bands have a drummer who can lay on a backing vocal like that? Superb stuff, thank you KEXP yet again!
Taylor Hawkings was one of them (if you're interested)
I'm here, every week, to hear and watch that tasty solo on Hunnybee
Steely Dan and the 60s English band Caravan, excellent, Kexp produce some of the best live performances on You-Tube.

Love how well you can hear his lower harmony during chronos... what an incredible songwriter
The electric sitar used on the opening track - my god what a sound! Used to epic devastating effect here.

I like this album a whole lot, especially Hunnybee, it fits so well with its musicvideo. Makes me wanna delve into their whole discography.

This kind of music is both relaxing and danceable... so cool!
i love every single thing about this band
Now this is good music. I'm happy that I recently had the opportunity to discover this band.
Ministry of Alienation is my favorite, but this whole set is incredible.
That slow delay on the solo😵 makes it rain down. Inspiring
Love to see more kiwis on KEXP!
Parade all the active Flying Nun bands through.

His voice in Not In Love We're Just High

Hunnybee is my all time favourite song. And sex and food is my all time favourite album.
My oh my! Stumbled upon some goodness!
This should be on the record
Ministry of Alienation already peaked my interest in this. and then the 2nd song made me explore more. Then I came onto Hunnybee and I'm hooked!
I met ruban almost 2 years ago...he's really a nice and humble dude

I like how dry those drums sound. It fits so nicely with the overall sound of this band.
Just discovered my new favorite track.... ministries of alienation.
At last it was published, I like the first one a lot

I lol'd when he said he went to Vietnam because he associates Hendrix with the Vietnam war haha.
