We're known to be a very reserved people to the point that we are perceived as almost cold or rude to others but that's really not the case. We just really value our own privacy and we don't like to disturb others or to be disturbed or interrupted. That's why small talk is so absent in our culture, and we can feel quite awkward and out of place in situations where we do need to be more talkative and engage with strangers. I wouldn't blame the journalists, it's simply just a culture thing
